Not sure if you would like but try Lost Remnants. It is a live time action RPG game. I cursed when playing this game many times. If you do plan on playing this game, I got one advice for you. SAVE OFTEN AS POSSIBLE AS YOU CAN!

Resonance of Fate is another good one (Tri-Ace)
Difficult to learn the battle system, but it's a great play once you get the hang of it.

You can't go wrong with the PSP remakes of the first two Star Ocean games. I hear the first Lunar just recently got a PSP update, so I'd check that out if you're into something new-but-old-school.
Don't rule out roms and stuff either. There's at least one site I can think of (or maybe it was a torrent...) that has a massive bundle of SNES rpgs all lumped into one zip file; they ain't exactly current-generation, but they don't call 'em "Golden Oldies" for nothing.

I've said it hundreds of times, Fallout 2 for the PC. Also Earthbound for the SNES is one of the best JRPGs I've played.

if you really liked disgaea graphism/Kingdom Hearts gameplay, you should try Odin Sphere ( from PS2)

my all time favorite rpgs are ogre battle 64 and tactics ogre though.
their ancient, but so good!

I know you already plan on playing Persona 4, but I just picked it up a few days ago and now I realize why people say it's such a good game. Almost 30 hours in and I'm only in the second dungeon but I'm having so much fun that even when I'm grinding it doesn't feel like it.
A few more recommendations would be: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for SNES and the Mario & Luigi series for GBA/DS.

If you liked Dragon Age, then you could play the Neverwinter Nights games. Those are among my favorite RPGs, and unless the Forgotten Realms setting is a turn off for you, I don't know what there is to dislike that you wouldn't also have disliked about Dragon Age. Dragon Age has a little better story, but the Neverwinter Nights games have better character customization options, IMO. Really almost all of Bioware's games are great, can't go wrong with Baldur's Gate either.
Also, if you are big on story and have a PS3, you should play Metal Gear Solid 4. For me, the story in MGS4 was more engaging than that of any RPG I have played.

Well, as for RPG I reccomend you a Gothic trilogy and after it Risen, by the same studio...Oh man, yeah those are certainly good ideas.
Someone mentioned Neverwinter Nights. I figured I should mention that people are still playing in consistent online worlds for that game despite how old it is.

How I forgot to recommend the first 4 games listed is beyond me... but I highly recommend all of them as well, although as far as Dragon Quest goes I'm afraid I'm going to have to recommend starting with Dragon Quest 3 over any of the others. (You can get the original NES version, but I'd recommend getting the SNES ROM with a translation patch if you don't mind emulation, or the Game Boy Color version if you'd rather have a physical copy). Keep in mind until recently Dragon Quest has been named Dragon Warrior in the US. Which reminds me of the Dragon Quest Monsters games for the Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance and DS, so far my favorite is Dragon Quest 3 for the GBA (Japanese only so again ROM with English patch is recommended). And speaking of Gameboy games there's also Azure Dreams (also available for the PSX, but personally the GBC version is more fun). It's a pure dungeon crawler with just one town so don't expect a whole lot of story, but it's a Mystery Dungeon type RPG, complete with a giant randomized dungeon and over a hundred monsters to raise and fight beside. Incredibly addicting if you have the patience for it.
More to come as I remember them haha.
