lol pretty much half of these I've had the same reaction to. Ahh, the memories...
The worst for me, that I can recall:
A fare part of Doom 3. Can't remember any specific part, but it was always very dark, and creepy..
FEAR. The ladder part stunned me for a few mins, lol left me feeling gangbanged.
BioShock. Walking into a room, I see a corpse laying on a table. Then, frost covers my screen, and the corpse is gone... alright then. I see something shiny, and go over to it. More frost. I get the shiny and turn around to be face to face with a splicer... and scream.
Heh, I did have a shotgun out, so he didn't last long, but dammit did I jump! Then of course that damn statue part that was explained earlier... only I didn't have invisibility.
Call of Cthulhu. Older game, but at the time I had not played anything overly scary. Heh, that game made my heart race like nothing else.
Half-Life 2. Fucking headcrabs hiding in crates...
Hexen. I don't care who you are, back then that was the scariest shit on the market. Those pixels were INSANE!

Hexen, damn that name brings up memories. I always enjoyed watching my dad play that but myself was scared to play it myself.
I broke a mouse or 2 while playing FEAR. I have the tendecy to raise my hand in the air and smack it on the table, effectivly destroying the mouse, whenever something really creeped me out.
DOOM 3. I forgot where it was but I presses Esc, moved the keyboard aside, slammed my head on the desk (effectivly knocking myself out for 10 minutes), get back up, place keyboard in front of me again and continue on gaming.
Also a complete dark room with nothing but the screen as source of light. I paused the game because I had to go to the bathroom. My youngest brother was watching my play and decided to have a go at the game as well. (I always have the door to my room closed). So I pull the door open and give out one stupid roar. Sat on antoher chair for the rest of the evening. XD

I believe it was the first Silent Hill game, but there's a possibility that it was a Resident Evil game . . . I had been playing for a while, and I came across this room with a bunch of mailboxes or something. I had to get something out of the room, and I just knew that something was going to pop out of one of the boxes. So, I creeped inside the room, very slowly, waiting for something to jump out or make a noise. I got to the thing that I needed, grabbed it, and slowly left the room. Nothing happened at all.
It doesn't sound scary, but it was very unnerving, having to go into a room and knowing that something was going to happen. And then, when nothing does happen, it feels like something's wrong. Like, maybe something even scarier is going to pop out once I leave the room.
Shit, any Silent Hill game constantly has my hair standing on end, because I never know when something is going to happen. It seems like every time I calm down, that fucking radio blares static or some other horrible thing makes me soil my jeans.

The Umbrella Laboratory in Resident Evil scared the crap out of me most of time. As soon as you get off the elevator, 4 zombies are waiting for you on the next room. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't come for you at the same time. Another part that scare me was the place where you need to refuel the container and tons of chimeras appear out of nowhere ready to kill you. I don't know why but I find that enemy disturbing. It must be the insect like characteristics they have.
I also hate the Crimson Heads. Those guys even haunted me on my dreams.
Damn them to hell!

Without a doubt, for me, it has to be the (now) infamous Penumbra series.
EDIT: A little bit more info about it: You're a guy, knocked out, wake and find yourself... in an abandoned research facility. No weapons. You never will have one. Your only goal is to stay alive. Also, note as he passes through the vents, the body laying on the table. Notice the ambiance, the music, the sounds.
This is one of those "you just don't want to go over there" games.
And after... this is where it starts to get SCARY.

lol oh man, that is funny.
Yeah I remember one night when me and my older brother were on our computers, he was playing the Doom 3 Demo with his headphones on, so I look over to watch him for a bit.
He went into a room with a dead dude laying over a handrail, and below the handrail were goodies. So, being the greedy bastard he is, he charged for them: and the corpse fell toward him. lol must have had some sound effect, because I've never seen him jump so high in his chair. Luckily I didn't hear anything so I just busted out laughing...
And I wonder why he does not play dark games anymore...

Blame the horrible sales. Damn you people for not buying that awesome game. Axing zombies to death with a Canadian firefighter is awesome. It's too bad most of you people never experienced that.
*hugs his copy of Eternal Darkness*

Shame considering it was pretty awesome. Really brought a new dynamic to gameplay.

At the time it came out I wasn't sure if it was gonna be good or not. I didn't know anything about silicon knights and on paper it sounded odd a bit but when my friends told me about it I got curious...today I sorta regret not buying a copy cause I saw one at like 10$ at an ebgames about a year ago...

Wow, 10 bucks is a bargian for Eternal Darkness. Shame you didn't buy it.
Anyways, I feel for you. That game is impossible to find in stores new or used. I had to go online to buy my copy. One of the best purchases I've made to be quite honest.
Without a doubt, ED is one of the most underrated games of all time.

Well that's debatable...and could make for an interesting topic (if it doesn't exist already) Most underated game I have IMO is parasite eve 2

Word, i was always nervous as hell when i realized i had to backtrack through the mansion to get something becasue i knew there was a shitload of "dead zombies in those corridors/rooms that could potentially jump up and become Crimson heads.
If i already was wounded it was even worse.

If I remember correctly, both Eternal darkness and resident evil 0 were supposed to be on the n64, but Nintendo pushed them back to the gamecube...good decision lol

I played that game often with my sister back when we were like twelve years (My sister being a few years older.) and she would strangle me for bugging a teleporter and ruining our savegame. Awesome game, freakin' scary back then - too bad the frightening atmosphere was clashing with my sister being all berserk and beating up the monsters while I'm cowering in the corner, alone.

When I was a kid, I couldn't play the Resident evil games at all. Its one thing to watch a horror movie, but another thing to interact in a horror game. I think I can take playing those games now, but I just haven't gotten around to playing them.
