VNs let you play out the choices you want to happen, so really, he'll only be an asshole if you make him one. Unfortunately, only a small minority of the endings in the game can be considered "good". The rest... yeah, not pretty.

The one time I played through the half-fansubbed version of this I got the ending where Kotonoha jumps off a building to kill herself. I was bummed when they stopped fansubbing to work on the official release, but at least it's here now!
