Should we bother drawing backgrounds?

I'm working with some guys on a V.N.
The plan for the story is that it almost entirely takes place on a university campus. But of course there are a few fantasy incidents that wouldn't work done live action.
Anyway, having seen that barely anyone seems to mind the K.S. photo backgrounds, should we save ourselves a lot of time and just get those, or would drawn backgrounds enhance the experience to a tangible extent?
