Man my friend told me to play this game and I started freaking out. Doesn't help that I have this odd fear about the forest at night.

We've been trying to actually beat this game. Heard rumors about people getting all 8 pages but as soon as you get to 5 Slendy turns batshit crazy and theres no getting away anymore, lol.

This game starts by scaring the crap out of you with the whole atmosphere of no HuD for you, lost-in-the-woods-at-night, and a wide yet seemingly closed-off map, with the sole objective "collect the eight pages." It then re-enforces that atmosphere by spawning Slenderman after grabbing the first page.
But the atmosphere really dies down after wandering around for a while, because you grabbed all the obvious pages, but then escalates quickly again if you walk too close and then decide to turn around.
Methinks that from the point when you collect the first page, Slender won't come close to you cos' of some limit or something, but that limit gets broken more and more with each page collected, eventually resulting in no limit.
Me also thinks that you cannot lose if you don't turn around, if you need to go back the way you came, make a biiiiiiiiiiiiig turn instead of just pivoting.
But yeah, fucken scary.
But you can't REALLY compare this to Amnesia, because they are both scary in their own rights.
Amnesia: Monsters are more "up-in-your-face" and force you to hide.
Slender: Single monster you can avoid just by running the other way.

The game looks nice for being indie, I guess I'll give it that, but I don't think it's really scary. The atmosphere doesn't do it for me, and outside of that,(at least to me) it's just attempted jump scares, which I hate and don't work on me unless they're extremely well hidden, which they aren't here.
I kinda feel the same about Amnesia(which I still loved, though), but the atmosphere works a lot better with Amnesia because it's built up a bit, still doesn't scare me, but I do think it's really well done. As for the other times it tries to scare you, I look at most of what it does as mini natural disasters, which I'm not afraid of, really. And thanks to an LP of the game, I can't think of the creature as anything other than "Beard-mouth", and that kills any effect it may have had on me.
The major difference though, if you take Amnesia a bit serious like it's supposed to be, it can still manage to be a bit scary, and Slender can't, nor do I think it's intended to be taken seriously. But maybe I'm wrong and just have some extreme resistance/tolerance to or for horror.

The difference is that you can still hide in Amnesia, in Slender, you can just keep on running with no hope in the end.

OT: @Randomness There's actually an end to the game, its just difficult to get to it.

Yeah, just heard it got added. However, I was talking about gameplay-wise, now one has to beat the clock to get to the end and you can't hide from the look of it.
