Now used games will no longer have online functionality, until you pay a 'small' fee (probably along the lines of $10-15).
This is gonna piss me off, since I get most of my games used.

Okay, in my eyes, that online pass fee completely negates any arguement about PSN being cheaper than an XBL gold membership. I buy a LOT of my games used, with only a few select titles being the exceptions. I just don't see why Sony doesn't slap a mandatory fee to use PSN services and get it over with. Seems like less of a hassle that way.

The article I read said if other studios wanted to do it they could. Which means only sony owned stuff will have this if I read it right.
Otherwise this is stupid. EA and other companies I can understand their reason for doing it even though their method is retarded. But Sony? Come on. Sony has no reason to do this shit. Sue Gamestop or other stores that do used games. Don't punish your customers.

I think the point behind the pass is so that Sony can use the money gained from the collected fees to pay for maintaining and updating PSN. That's pretty much what Microsoft has been doing with the money collected from XBL gold memberships. That, and hiring a crack team of ban-hammer wielding XBL moderators.

This is only for used games. The reason for online passes are to regain some profit off used sales. When ever you buy a used game the money goes straight to gamestop or who ever and the developer is left out. This done't matter to me because i buy all of my stuff new. If you notice new and used game are only 5 dollar's apart(for the same game that is).

afaik, the pass doesn't apply to all games. Only SOCOM had it and they recently revealed that Uncharted 3 will have it as well.

Here's a simple solution: Don't buy games with online capabilities used. The pass is free otherwise.
Blame GameStop for their business practices.

Thing is we have PSN Plus. Which is just like xbox live memberships. All in all sony has no reason to do this. It doesn't apply to all games but this has the possibility of spreading like cancer.

I agree as well. Possibly more money for the devs.

I don't think that the "Pass" is wrong, but why do they have to "always" target the "used" customers/gamers
Why can't they just create a "tax system" for the selling of used games?

A "tax system" would be much worse, the used games would be so pricey it'd make no sense to buy them instead of a new one. Oh wait, now it dun anyway...
Well, not my problem, almost never buy used games. I think this is a good thing, cuz hopefully it will bring more money to developers and less to the stores that sell their games used.

They might as well implement the "PSN pass" for ps plus users, more people will subscribe and they will get more money.

For those of you complaining!
Sony just like any other company is going to do this because they don't make money off used game sales!
All that money goes straight to gamestop or who ever and they are left out!
The pass is no big deal. When i first heard about passes from EA i was like WTF but then i saw how it worked.
Gamestop is making money off somebody else's product.
It will only be a matter of time before your precious microsoft does the same thing too.
This is no big deal! Simple, Don't buy used games. If you notice new and used for the same title is ONLY 5 DOLLARS APART!
The whole point of the pass system is to make up for lost profit off used games because like i said used game money goes straight too gamestops pocket and the dev is left out.

You simply don't know how to search for the cheapest games in the Used market. There won't be a small margin of just $5. I often buy Used games from Japan and they sure have a "competitive" real market there, not just "hey, let's cut $5 for used games".
what I bought recently
Final Fantasy 13 -> $5 (new was around $70)
White Album PS3 Limited edition -> $60 (new was around $110)
Tales of Vesperia -> $30 (new was around $70)
I honestly don't know about the Used Market in America, but buying used games isn't going to destroy the industry, it's the retailers that's trying to get every penny. And honestly the Used game markets is very limited in supply, why should the industry fear the market?

if a consumer entered a Gamestop with the full intention of purchasing a new copy of "Halo 3", but was convinced by the sales clerk to purchase a used copy, then yes, Microsoft and Bungie have lost out on a new sale.
On the other hand, if the consumer was browsing their local Gamestop and impulsively picked up a used copy of "Halo 3" because they weren't sure if they would like it and the price made it a tempting purchase or there were no new copies available (or it had been out of print for a while), then it is arguable that it was not money out of Microsoft and Bungie's pockets, as the consumer had never intended or would not have been able to make a new purchase in the first place.
Furthermore, the purchaser of the used copy of "Halo 3" will probably buy some downloadable content (DLC) off of Xbox Live, generating some ancillary revenues (allowing Bungie and Microsoft to sell DLC multiple times for a single copy of the game). The consumer may also be so enamored with their used "Halo 3" purchase that they will purchase a new copy of "Halo 4" on day one of its release, gaining Bungie and Microsoft a new customer and their associated lifetime revenue stream.
So yes, a used sale does result in less money in the pockets of developers and publishers, but over the long run it is not necessarily a 1:1 ratio.
