Sony's stocks fall

In a recent article by Colin from ign sony's stocks have fallen, which is its lowest since 1984. Because of the credit and debit downgrade in 2012 Sonny was forced to close two of its 15 fully-owned development studios in 2012. I want you Fakku(PS3, 360, PC, and Nintendo fans to discuss) My question is do you think its because of bad business decision such as continuing the release of PSP games when they released the Vita or selling of products such as 3D tv or the motion products? Also, have the movies distributed by Sonny Pictures affected the company?

The PSP was a decent success at first, but it just couldn't keep up with that price to begin with. I really enjoyed the PSP games like Metal Gear Acid, Coded Arms, Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles and the God of War games. But the handheld isn't for everyone and the price even less. Of course, I am grateful there was no gimmicky stuff for it like the DS (even though this is how the DS and Wii sold a lot, I also have a DS and a Wii), but it did cost Sony a bit. Same goes for the Vita, it has some very impressive visuals from what I played at a kiosk, especially the Uncharted demo. But it is too expensive. Glad for Sony trying to advance in handhelds, it just isn't the right time with the economy.

As for their movie side, it is a problem. Word got out that they don't have high hopes for the new Spider-Man movie and already have a whole new crew ready to get a sequel out if this one doesn't work out.

All in all, great ideas, bad timing.

EDIT: Sony knows how to get appeal, making bundles and special edition PSPs, something Nintendo hardly does.

They still make psp games like all other console. They still put out game years after the launch of the next gen of consoles. Im sure when 720 or ps4 comes out they still be new 360 and ps3 games for a while. Only Diehard fanboys get the new shit until the price drops and the bug are worked out. Remember the psp did cost 249$ in the first year of release also. Why wouldn't sony release psp games(only 4 games are going to be released outside japan).

Sony overextended their market base because they make fucking damn near everything. Sony has so many meh products that even the good ones can't fixed the shitty ones(dslr cameras and cams are the shittiest fucking thing ever). True the vita in japan is a meh failure since.. well no one can do anything yet with it. Psp didn't sell out in the first year neither. More a fanboy need vs money.

Sony been know to raise the price too high for mass effects of diehards and technophiles hipsters. Wait a year and the price will drop and more people will be willing to buy something they don't need since ramen is cheap. Also the cfw will be a driving force. I can always fake a dl code.

The psp is fine, especially if you live in Japan and speak Japanese. And emulation.

PSVita is really lacking though, and the it's sales and Sony's stock is a reflection of that.


Seeing Sony's current state, a new console seems unlikely. Even if Via sales do go up.

Pretty much this. I'm a PC gamer so I don't really care much for the Vita. And even if I did I still wouldn't get it because gas is like four bucks a gallon.

Your analogy doesn't make senses since even if you play pc games.. you pay for the computer, games, light bill, internet and maintenance cost vs if you play console or handhelds you pay for the console, game, power and net. Even if you cut the game cost and steal.. your still in the bank more then the other ones. Doesn't really matter if gas was a dollar or your first born. The idea of you choosing one or the other doesn't matter. You payed more for the computer then the cost of a ps3 or even psvita and you pay more for a upgrade to a better rig or to update the rig to current specs.

OT: Maybe because everyone pirating all the sony games and movies.. or maybe people realize Sony products usually suck or are meh to begin with. Only reason i have a vita is because you can't check if the recodes are playable unless you have one.. and blazblue which was shit on vita.. good on the psp. The Vita isn't going to be viable until cfw.
