Soul Calibur 5

I was thinking about it, I'm doing a bit more reshearch about the game. So far I haven't found a picture of Kilik's face, and I really like him and his staff, but the helmet isn't working for me. I see another character is his modern day replacement, but I'm not liking the fact that he's based off the Monkey King...

Well the game is out now that I know of. So any characters not announced aren't going to be announced. That or dlc.

Got the game earlier today and played a few hours on it. Started with the story and decided to go on from there. I'm actually surprised at myself for not touching Nightmare yet, considering that he's been my main fighter since SC2. Guess I've just been too interested in the new additions to the roster. It also seems that the soul crush game mechanic in SC4 has been replaced by the new Brave Edge and Critical Edge attacks that are comparable to the hypercombos in MvC3 in that you need to build up your soul gauge before you could use them.
At the moment, Ezio is my current favorite followed by Patroklos (alpha). I'm trying to learn how to use Devil Jin's moveset, but it's proving to be a bit harder to grasp than some of the other fighters. Probably has something to do with me never playing Tekken.

I picked it up today and it really throwing me for a loop. I enjoy it, but its just I'm more used to 2D fighters. I feel like its just one giant footsie game the whole time.
And those anyone play this on stick? I find it kind of hard, I went back to my pad for it.

I am disappoint with the story mode. Half of the characters on the roster have no importance in the story whatsoever. The only way one can find out what "role" they play in the game's timeline or what their backgrounds are is by looking on the Soul Calibur wikia.
The online and character creation aspects are greatly improved however.

Like all fighting games, it has some balancing issues. And the CPU deciding it just doesn't want you get hurt can be annoying. But overall, I'm much more satisfied with this over SCIV.
most of the new characters really piss me off. Immature little pissants with no real personality. Just a single random emotion. (Ex. Likes to eat. Has abandonment issues. Has a mother complex. Is fucking crazy.)
But for a fighting game I guess you can ask too much. But really... 3 mimic characters and 2 "other forms" of existing characters. Kinda skimped out there, Bandai Namco.
The character creation is so much better now.
By far, the best thing they did was get rid of the armor system. The Critical Edge system is awesome and works. And now you don't have to make your character look like a douche because that's the best armor you have.

Had this game since last week, and I still find it really fun.
Been putting this game to the lab, and I found an easy way to buffer Critical Edge with a Quick Side-Dash.
All you have to do is input Forward - Down+Foward 3 times and then A+B+K. This will cause a quick side-dash, as well as a Critical Edge to come out. Because of the real big leniency of inputs for the Critical Edge, it comes out right after a quick-dash.
This buffering is real good to punish B attacks, as well as a good option to buffer one out more quickly.
I'll try to post a video showing and explaining a bit more of it to help visualize it more.

Okay, the Devil Jin moveset is quickly becoming my favorite. Biggest adaptation I had to get over (past the obvious style difference) was the severe lack of range due to only using your fists. Past that, it's fast as hell, can chain together a good number of attacks with ease, and has a couple of moves that can catch most opponents off-guard.
As it stands, I keep getting my ass kicked every time that the CPU controls Nightmare. Not only does he keep using the same unblockable attack + combo on my ass, he's also seems far faster than how he should be. I've been using him as my main for a while, and I don't think I've ever seen him move that quickly before. So, either the AI is a cheating bitch or I've seriously lost my touch with him. I'm hoping that it's the former.

I've always had four characters in every fighting game. Two I know well, one I know but can't really use and one that I like to use but suck with.
I've always used Siegfried(Nightmare is SCII). Cervantes is my other male. My females used to be Taki and Sophitia. But now that Namco-Bandai got kid of all the adult females except for the delicious Ivy, I've taken to Viola and Patroklos(well, his soul. Made a custom character because I hate him).
I really like how different Viola is. I was playing against a friend last night using her and all I kept thinking when I was throwing that ball around was "Hadouken!"
I have the same problem. He's so ridiculously fast when I fight him. And cheap as hell because of it. Nowhere near as bad as Harada TEKKEN though.

I heard the story mode was supremely lacking, and so far I can see why a lot of people are saying that. Still, man, I'm having a ball, and I even really like the newbies.
...Well, maybe not Note-Sophitia. Patrokolos won me over when he killed some innocent guy just because he was fucking dirty. Figures a man who clearly spends that much time on his hair would find poor hygiene worthy of execution (I know the truth, but it's funnier the way I see it).
Really wish they made the arcade mode have personal character endings like in the past Soul Calibur games, though. I'm incredibly happy to have a genuine plot with scenes and dialogue instead of just a closing cinematic and pre-fight quotes, but there was no need to discard the old format when both could've co-existed in different modes.
I got the collector's edition since I promised myself I would either go CE or not buy it at all. With a physical artbook, a physical OST and the Making Of disc (yet to see that since I want to beat the story first), this is one of the few CE's that are worth it to me. No bullshit "download it from blank website". Physical stuff! And a Making Of! I miss when all CE's were like this.
Also nice to get back in Ivy again. Her design is perfect for her character, definitely being the best design for her period. In fact, I'm digging all of the character designs.

How did you have it from last week? Didn't it just come out three days ago?
Anyway, nice find, mate! I've got to try the hell out of that now. Thanks for the tip.

Anyone else think they need to fix the CPU in this game? Seriously. It blocks at impossible moments, it's faster, stronger and if you get knocked down your FUCKED.
I just fought a C3 Ezio in Quick Battle. That fucking arrow raped me. He blocked everything in every situation I put him in and just used arrows.
So I spammed running grabs and beat him that way.

The CPU in this game are hard, but not in the sense of being real good. They feel more like the old-school CPUs in fighters, they can "magically" know when and how to block a specific attack, and can counter-hit you off of anything.

They really do need to fix the ground hits though. I get knocked down, which takes forever to get back up and while on the ground the CPU is using MED attacks to hit me. I can understand crouching low attacks, but not MED. It's fucking annoying as hell.
Maybe I'm expecting too much. If they just put SCIII on demand or remade it in HD, I'd be happy.

Tried SC5 on 31 of Jan(yeah, we are pirates) and... I don't know guys, is it's because I played on friend's Xbox360(gonna pick up my copy of SC5 for my PS3) or... Well, you know, something feels off. Not that it's bad.
Siegfried still kicks ass but I still don't get how to do those Street Fighter ultra moves. And combos are different. Need more time to get the hang of it I guess.
But nevertheless I like SC5.

Cheating bitch would activate her projectile invulnerability power (the one where she flashes green) the exact moment you use any projectile attack. She'll then run THROUGH the projectile and then beat your ass with a rapid-hit combo while you're still helpless, already being in the middle of your own attack (which did nothing).
Ran into a few lousy people online recently. One example was one lobby host that made himself a Sepiroth character, using Siegfried. The guy obviously didn't know how to control Siegfried and only used his moveset due to the massive katana that was available for it. So, using Mitsurugi, I managed to beat him in after 4 rounds. Shortly afterwards, I was booted from the lobby. Not able to find any other player lobbies that were open, I rejoined the same one. Not only did the same host boot ANOTHER player for beating him, but after I beat him again, this time I fuckin' destroyed him using Natsu (Taki was my second best fighter after Nightmare), he booted me again. Host even bitched at me for using holds too often, when I've only used them 5 times for the course of only 3 rounds. Asshole needed to learn how to play and quit being so butthurt over losing.

I've think played that guy too. I used Leixia, my main character as of right now, and I lost to him in a tournament match, not because he's good, but because of the lag and him doing the same moves over and over again.

I so love the AI and the game. Yes, they can juggle you until you almost have 1 hp, but I've won a lot of matches with just 1 hp. I never had any issues with the character roster though I miss some styles and characters. Me and my friends have been playing this for quite a while. Heck, I wasn't even able to touch my Final Fantasy XIII-2 because of this (except the time when I tried if it was working).
The only thing that I despise in this game is the story mode. I could make an essay detailing the insults that I want to throw at the story mode but I'll just say that it is... really bad (and this is a big understatement).
In SC IV my main was Tira, Setsuka and Talim (Mitsurugi in times of desperation).
Now in V, it changed into Viola, Pyrrah and α Patroklos (Murasaki in create character). Viola is just amaaaaazing and really really fun to use. α Patroklos is Setsuka so yeah. Pyrrah is the best, mostly because she annoys the crap out of my sister and friends. (Still Mitsurugi in times of great problem, but I do avoid using him)
