Soul Calibur 5

Picked up the game just for the hell of it yesterday. Spent a bit in story mode, character creator, and arcade.

Not bad, so far. I'm a little disappointed in the character roster, seeing many of my favourite characters either getting axed or replaced(Talim and Setsuka, most notably). I already didn't like Kilik, and Xiba is now even worse (they're both just fucking annoying. I wish you could mute specific characters).

Natsu is alright. Plays very similar to Taki in SCII. I can see her valley girl tendencies getting on my nerves pretty quickly, though.

Hell, it's not like the series was renown for it's fantastic acting, in any case.

New characters Z.W.E.I and Viola are quite interesting and have great potential, but they're definitely not friendly for beginners; Viola is quite technical, and Z.W.E.I is kinda slow and lacks the reach to make up for it- making him rather reliant on blazing through an opponents health with good combos, which I fear may make him a little predictable in the long run.

As for the unlockable characters- quite mediocre; essentially three Charade clones, by the looks of it. Dampierre looks fun, though. (I'm totally gonna edit him into Waluigi in Creation mode).

I don't terribly mind the linear story. If anything, it probably beefed up the narrative (not that enthralling storytelling was SC's strong point).


I'll need to try out the other modes sometime- hell, I didn't even get 100% on SC IV, yet.

I played this game for the first time yesterday at a friends house. He's been playing for a few months now, but I still one a couple of matches to my surprise. I just picked the new Cassandra character girl and tried to be as mobile as possible.

Also, the character designer for this game is pretty cool. I don't know if someone already posted this:

Back to the topic.
Story-wise SCV sucks major ass, Pathrocolos is as gay as I thought he would be, Pyrra is a whiny bitch that needs to be handled by Kratos(for great justice) and who the fuck is Z.W.E.I.?!
What does it even stands for, that Zed-Double Yu-E-I? Zippy Wiener Enduring Imbecile?
Oh god, that story it's just AUGH.
And I even bought a Collector's Edition, oh silly me.

But gameplay-wise I'm pretty satisfied.
If they know that story mode from 3rd one was THE best why the fuck they keep doing whatever but that good mechanic with QTE's and stuff?

All I know about him is that he's a werewolf of sorts and that his name, Zwei, is German for "two". It makes more sense when you take into consideration the name of that wolf spirit-thingy, Ein, which is German for "one". Though, why his name is spelt as if it were an abbreviation is beyond me (I'll accept yours for the time being). Game forgot to add fucking bios to explain the new characters, among other things.

Loving this game, the combat has meter now that does fun and effective super moves. The character's fighting styles are still there with new faces but aren't a big deal since you can just custom make a character from the past using their style. IE: Kilik with just a staff. Speaking of custom, check it: NSFW...or anywhere

With this as your background music and that as your characters, you will be labeled as EPIC!

Edit: Allright! i'm getting closer to mastering Elysium! I can pretty much bend anyone with Pyrrha and Oprah, And so far Leixia feels great.....although there are times when i just don't know what to press and just stand there and take it...

I got the game on sale last week at best buy so far I am liking it more then SC4. However, I am somewhat disappointed at how bare bones the single player is. The story mode is pitiful, I’ve never hated a character as much as I do for Patroklos despite that I like him as a fighter just not personality wise.

I've been playing a lot of SCV recently, and I noticed, after Kilik, theres still a missing character slot. Does anyone know who that is and how I can obtain them?

It's Algol from SCIV. You can unlock him by leveling up. If I remember correctly, you get him at around level 30.

You can unlock Algol easier around level 20, just win 3 consecutive player matches IIRC.

For those who still play SCV, a patch will be arriving at March 21st.

It's weird for some reason I am unable to do attacks that require multiple button inputs. I used to be able to do it but I no longer have the hang of it.

With Leixia nerfed, it seems like she's going to have a bit of a harder time than usual, but still going to play her.
