This new engine is called, as of now as, "Luminous".
Left is the reference shots, right is the rendered shots.

They relatively failed at the 3rd and 4th shots (aliasing and the like), but hey, its forgivable since its an engine in the works.

This new engine is already showing some limitations--such as the inability to render traffic cones. :P
EDIT: Nevermind, I got that backwards. It interprets traffic cones where they should be!

Should I interpret this as even more linear Final Fantasies to be released?

Alrighty then, picture this if you will:
10 to 2 AM, X, Yogi DMT, with a box of Krispy Kremes, in my "need to know" pose, just outside of Area 51, contemplating the whole "Chosen People" thingy, when a flaming stealth banana split the sky like one would hope but never really expect to see in a place like this, cutting the right angle donuts on a dime and stopping right at my Brikenstock an me yelping...
holy fucking shit

Yup, posted it in the e3 thread. Answered their survey. They seem to be keen to use most of the elements (girl, atmosphere, universe) seen in this video as a base for their next Final Fantasy.

Sorry to dissapoint but it’s nearly impossible that a properly interactive game with hours of content cannot possibly look anywhere near as strong and detailed as this regardless of what graphics ability current consoles and PCs might have.
But it's a step in the right direction for 3D technology, what impressed me the most was not the textures but the really high quality shaders they used (how the light reacts to it's surroundings, light atmosphere, Bloom)

It won't look as good as the video, but it'll still look pretty good. If I remember correctly, FFXIII had 1080p cutscenes with 720p gameplay. It looked pretty damn good.
