Technicality VS. Arcadey
Technicality VS Arcadey

I'm not sure how many of you will understand the topic but I'll explain. If you compare Mortal Kombat to let's say.... Virtua Fighter, Virtua Fighter is the more "technical game". While Mortal Kombat does not require that much technical knowledge (at least to me) to play.
Another comparison would be Gran Turismo VS Daytona USA or Need For Speed. In Gran Turismo, you really need to know how to tune your car(technicality) while in Dayton you just race.
I could go on with comparisons like Guilty Gear XX2 vs Street Fighter 2 or Tony Hawk VS Skate or Punch Out VS Fight Night but I'd like to know who of you like super technical games VS arcadey style games.
For me, it's kind of a mix-up but I always prefer aracdey games just because they're simple and so fun to play.

I prefer a mixture of both. Games that are friendly to new players where they can mash a few buttons to do a few cool moves and still be actually able to win is good. But as always, it needs a deeper mechanic for it to be successful.
Street fighter 2 nailed it on the head. It was easy to pick up and play, but it was also deep enough to be extremely competitive. Street Fighter 4 is like that too. Other games are pretty good at doing that too. Tekken, DoA, Soul Calibur are all like that. But games like Virtual Fighter and King of Fighters are pretty unfriendly to new players. A little too technical and the pace a little too slow for my taste.
So probably a mash-up of both. Easy enough to pick up and play, but deep enough to be competitive.

Same here, I also prefer a mix of both since there are times when I don't want to delve deep on the technical aspects of a game and just want to play for fun.

So far a game like F/UC is pefect for me. Took just 5 minutes to learn the controls, yet deep enough there's still a lot of missions to be completed.

Too tough to compare but ill go with the "Arcadey" style because sometimes "Technica" games can be too fucking clever for their own good.
I still LOVE playing Streets Of Rage 1 and Desert Strike.

Depends on what kind of game you are playing. For fighting or FPS games I like them to be easy to learn, but having some more advanced technicalities if you care to put some effort and time into it. DoA and Street Fighter 2 has been mentioned and is perfect examples of this, and is also my two favorite fight-games of all time. FPS games are more difficult since there usually isn't that much to them besides shooting stuff, which is quite the easy concept. But games like LfD2 managed to pull if off with nice gameplay, nice amount of weapons and well made foes.

Technicality trumps Arcadey any day imo. since i usually visit arcades for 1 reason and 1 reason alone, fighters. i prefer technicality so as a game it isn't deemed too easy or boring. usually what will fall into this category are things like guilty gear X2 series, street fighter III: third strike, king of fighters series, blazblue calamity trigger & continuum shift <_< okay maybe not BB. but yes, my opinion is of technicality is better for you as it wont get stale or too boring at any point, at least in my experience that's been the case.
