The Future of MMORPGs-Virtual Reality

((Don't know if this is right thread or not))
"I came across something interesting this guy on a forum said. He talks about the pros and cons of a Virtual Reality MMORPG. I personally think that this approach towards making MMORPGS will trigger a revolution in how games are made in the far or possible-near future.
quote "When you play your favorite MMORPG, do you look and wish you it could ever be real? Wouldn't it be wonderful to live 2 different lives? There will be so much possibilities that you can think of. The idea of Virtual Reality now comes to hand with many scientists.
The mind is a wonderous thing. It enables you to "feel" everything around you. It allows freedom of your body to learn. If you touch fire, it burns, it hurts, your mind tells you to pull away. Let's think about it differently - You touch fire, it burns, it's SUPPOSED to hurt, your mind tells you it doesn't hurt so you don't feel anything. The ability to alter our mind's thoughts are what scientists are working on now. To be able to make your mind BELIEVE it is in a different situation than it is right now is what makes the word Virtual Reality so special.
So you're thinking: What has all this got to do with MMORPGs? Well for one thing, in Virtual Reality, it is as what it says - based on reality in a different form or universe. What is reality? Reality is you, the world, and other "you's"(people and animals). Thus we can say that in Virtual Reality, you would be viewing a different world in a first-person-view. MMORPGs are based on a one-person-view, thus it is Virtual Reality in itself.
But when we think of the many wondrous possibilities of Virtual Reality, we think abouts its cons too. When you get hit or stabbed in Virtual Reality, your mind tells you that this hurts, and you feel pain. When you are stabbed to DEATH in Virtual Reality, your mind tells you that you are supposed to be dead. But you're not. What happens? In theory, you would be brain-dead. Your mind just stops working because it thinks it is dead, it thinks YOU are dead.
When we look at the future of MMORPGs, we think Virtual Reality. We dream about being able to lead another life where you are the boss and control everything. In real life, you are influenced by everyone else. In Virtual Reality, you get to choose your paths and if you think something is wrong, you change it. So is this considered Virtual Reality if you can change your life?
The questions are endless, but I'll stop at this point and leave most of you thinking about what the world can bring us - both good and bad.

It is very possible.
Think about it, How realistic games are becoming, 3D Televisions, some you don't even need glasses for.
Everything is advancing fast. And they already got virtual reality glasses for games like Half life 2, and World of Warcraft, they are crappy but still. It's a start into the right direction.
I say with in the next 10 years, it will be very real.

If anything I think that's how gaming will head in general in the next few decades. Although if they are going to do it I hope it will come out like something in the manga YUREKA.

I think were still a long way off realistic games, other than a few visual masterpieces. (I'd rather use " How Advanced games are becoming " )
3D effects have been around since the early 90's, not very popular but still there.
Anywhat, Nearly any MMO can be used as Virtual reality, they all have an extremely large interaction with other players, but not on a crappy 5 inch screen you wear on your head.
Video Games using reality haven't always been very big, cool ideas, and intresting gimics but never anything 'Revolutionary'. I don't think it would change much, and personally I don't really want it to change, I like video games with a Gamepad, controller, keyboard+mouse rather than a WiiMote, Kenitic or Move system. (That and they haven't released that many good games that use them).
The only way I can see Virtual Reality really coming true and becoming a new phomonenom, Would be the classic, Star Trek's Holoroom's
I mean, of course not to the same point, but using Holograms printed on a 3D-plan and playing games with that would be the best.

One thing comes to my mined when i think about this that i don't think has been addressed: Money
how much will a realistic virtual reality set cost to the average person in a down market?

It's a lot closer than some people may think.
personal or home set ups are still a ways off, but i can see something like an arcade or someplace you could go that had several rooms. maybe at one of those places that has mini glof, go-carts, waterslides, etc.
i can see an even bigger problem with people getting addicted to a virtual rpg though. there are already people who get so caught up that they forget to eat or sleep.

You should really read sword art online. http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Sword_Art_Online The whole concept of the novel is based on virtual real life mmo.

So is Prince1/2. It's also a manga about virtual Reality MMORPG.
And Like I said, what if you die in the game? do you die in real life because you're brain thinks you're dead? would you go into a coma, or would you're brain know better.

It's a wonderful thought and I'm very excited for the gamers of the future.(jealous too >.>)
But I don't see this happening anytime soon, nobody could afford it. There wouldn't be a large enough market to keep it going. Hell, video games and the devices we play them with are way too overpriced as it is. I could see serious lag issues too.. I hate to be a pessimist but yeah.. This is pretty far off imo. It's too bad to. :/ Technology can advance as fast as it wants but without people who have the money to spend on it, what's the use?

It depends on the VMMORPG console. In .hack//Quantum players that were killed by the virus were put into a coma. In sword art online, the developer made sure that if anyone tried to exit the game or died, would initiate a burst of microwave rays from the headgear that would fry the player's brain.
If a vmmorpg simulated death, then the console would have to simulate the person's fading vitals including the pain that came with it. Would it be possible to simulate it? Maybe. Phantom pain in amputees and psychological pain can be very real to the person receiving it, without causing any harm. If a person died in a vmmorpg, which then lead to him dying in real life, could be because of panic, cardiac illnesses, and other health factors.
