psbox362, Anesthetize you two pointed out where Capcom fails but yet you hold tight too supporting other companies why is that? They do the same bullshit if not worse then Capcon(pun).I've actually pointed out fuck-ups from both Capcom and Namco. I can't think of too many offenses from id, other than that god-awful ending in Rage and the fact that they take about a decade to release a single game. Again, I've never played enough Bioware games to judge them as a developer.

I hate to say it, but in a few ways, Shogun is correct. During the years, games have become less and less creative, innovative, and in some cases, poorly made, and no arguing can change this fact. Part of this is due to the gaming community continuing to buy such games, no matter what state they may be in, and writing it off as enjoyable, either be it their dedication to the series, genre, franchise, or developer. There's nothing wrong with devotion to any of these, however, I continue to see things produced that make me frown from developers that should A)know better, and B)can do a hell of a lot better.
Don't get me wrong, there's some very nice games out there, for example, Skyrim is highly praised, but it's by far from perfect. While Shogun might be a bit extreme, he's not wrong saying that, in this example, while good, Skyrim does have it's flaws. I think the problem is, is that most people would write off these flaws, since the game is highly valued, instead of stepping back, and realizing they are there, and noting/mentioning them, instead of just writing them off.
This argument again. Games have not become less innovative.
Innovation doesn't happen overnight and in a time where nearly everything that can be made and every creative way of thinking that can be thought, in the majority has in fact already been done. People throw the word of creativity and innovation around like it's something that can be bought and sold on a store. Let me tell you this now, making something new and innovative is fucking hard as shit.
As an architecture student i literally know this fact more than anything else. Tell me, how many ways do you think you could rearrange rectangles and squares in a way that hasn't already been done in the million or so buildings and homes that are already on the Earth? This is the trend that liters the word of design in society today, nearly every type suffers this same sort of situation in their own way.
And also, you talk like the gaming industry is solely just limited to mainstream titles. Have you not heard of Minecraft? I think that's pretty innovative. What about indie games like Limbo and Bastion? And how about the culture phenomenon innovation that is Angry Birds? The video game industry is more than the traditional platform now. If you didn't know mobile/tablet games as an industry are worth roughly $34 billion, almost half of the total net worth of the video game industry. In the next decade it will easily overtake the traditional software games you're accustomed to to become the biggest entertainment industry in the world par sports.
Hmm. That's not exactly the point I as trying to make, and maybe I could have worded myself a little better, so allow me to try and rephrase myself;
You're right, there's only so much one can think of using the tools and ideas that they have at their disposal, and they can leave to the human imagination. There have been some great examples of people breaking the norm, and doing new things that have been quite... good.
However, the point I was trying to make is that in some cases, developers seem to take a step backwards, or make errors, that they should know better in making. However, when said developers make these mistakes, after being in an industry for so long, as young as the industry may still be, most people will write off these mistakes, when they should be noting them, and expressing their dislike for them, instead of simply writing them off. This is how we learn and grow as an industry, and if people aren't willing to do that, then we're going to continue to make the same mistakes or errors.
You're also forgetting that it is an industry.
Like it or not, companies exist to make money. While developers might care about innovation, the people paying them don't. Shareholders who own EA and Activison could care less about creativity. The reality is is that those re-run titles, like CoD and Madden are the cash grabbers. To put it straight, making new and creative games all the time is not economically viable because like you said, with innovation comes mistakes and errors, and a lot of them.
However with that money gained from re-run'd cash grabbers, companies like EA can push out some truly innovative games every year like Mirrors Edge.

Hmm...I see fair enough. Ok let me ask you guys, gals, or whatever this have you played the original Killzone?
If so remember when the main assualt rifle of each faction had a secondary fire?
Then the company released Liberation,2, and 3 without the secondary fire.
What I am getting at is that Guerilla Games said that well specifically for Killzone 2 that the secondary fire was removed too make the game balanced however that statement is funny too me because in Killzone 3 that game has mechs...a secondary fire would sure be useful in a situation of foot soilder verse mech.
I am pretty much saying that even though the games graphics have improved the quality of gameplay was diminshed...The only thing annoying about Killzone is that the ISA had to find their secondary ammo while Heleghast already have some instock.
Another example Mass Effect 3...the game has been turned into a gears of war clone because now you have too reload...Problem? First Mass Effect there was no reload all the guns worked pretty much like how the plasma gun work in Halo...That diminished the quality of the game along with that overworld monitor you use in Mass Effect 2 compared too using the vehicle too explore planets in the original Mass Effect...
That and many other problems however I am just saying innovate but keep everything the original IP had so the game itself does not have an identity crisis...
Anesthetize: I repeat EA slogan "Challenge Everything" defending them and their fail too get a creative boner is no excuse same for Activision...I understand shareholders are important however we the consumer buy this junk. So if the shareholders supercide us then maybe EA and Activision should be convincing them too buy their games from now on...just a thought.

You're right, and that's why I mentioned we're becoming more like the general media, for that reason. That's just how things work, I understand that, which is why it's generally frustrating. We've become something for the sake of making as much money as possible, and in turn, we're making mistake after mistake, or error after error, and seeing less and less action taken to actually grow.
Or rather, correct the mistakes or things we dislike, because that's just how it is, when we should be voicing our opinions louder with each "successful" title that comes out, that still has the same flaws as the last, or have taken a step back from what it originally was, or could have been.

That said hollywood realized that the potential of the industry and made the first movie game. The game was E.T. this game is considered by many too be the worst game of all time...This game COULD have been good if the movie industry did not butt in on the development time. The team got only four weeks too make that game hence why it came out so badly. I would also agree that this is the first microwaved game because they simply did not give this game enough time too be made properly. This was when gaming itself started too crumble because crappy after crappy games were being made...Then hollywood lost interest and gaming died...for a moment till the developers eventually got their shit together...
Do you not see the pattern...hollywood being involved check, crappy sequeals that are not better than the original check, games being developed in a half assed way check, and etcetera...I could go on but I do not wanna td ; lr(whatever the hell that means).
Yes! Oh my god, YES! I swear, the gaming industry reeks of hollywood's all-raping cock. Hollywood's worst fear is not being able to fuck something. As you rightly mentioned, at this very moment, hollywood and the gaming industry's offspring taint the very essence of what was once thought of as "good games." Today it's all about more and more sequels, with less and less relevance to what made the novelty of the original so good. Looking at what's popular nowadays, it's hard not to think that activision and ea are riding the big hollywood dick train 24/7.
As further proof that gaming is F-U-C-K fucked, let's take a look at the ultra popular cod series. When cod was tired of never winning WW2, it took a shot at modern combat. We got an okay game, but hollyvision wasn't finished. It shit out modern warfare 2, which was a blatant copy and paste of the original, but with shittier content. The shit mountain that is modern warfare 3 broke the industry sales records and yet it did exactly what modern warfare 2 did, but WORSE. Hollywood being involved: check. Crappy sequeals that are not better than the original: check. Games being developed in a half assed way: check. Et cetera: check. Then there's electronic wood's battlefield series. SAME SHIT, DIFFERENT SERIES!
You denialists (I'm looking at you casiopao, anesthetize, and psbox) better not get me started on consoles becoming non-gaming entertainment machines. Hollywood is in your ass right now and you can't even feel it.

To be honest, I REALLY am unhappy with Capcom's decisions with many of their franchises. I won't judge DmC just yet, but it seems that they're shelving MEGAMAN for the time being. I haven't played the 8 bit megaman games yet but I started from X1 to X8 all the way to the ZX series and those games lit up my childhood which I appreciate. But now, it's been 3 or 2 years since the last megaman release and there has been no news of megaman games (except for MMOL which I can't really see being released outside of Korea) in recent times. I can only hope that they will not discontinue megaman or at least drop the hiatus.
There's been hints of Onimusha for a long time, but absolutely nothing happened. I still wanna know if Soki will come back or whether we will see Samanosuke in action once more :(
Now... MONSTER HUNTER IS ALMOST NEVER RELEASED IN THE WEST AT THE SAME TIME AS IN JAPAN. I seriously bought a 3DS just for MH3G and 4; 3G is soaring in Japan while western countries have to wait until the end of the year (sources say 2012 Autumn TBA). The western game catalogue for the 3ds is terrible; most games worth playing on the 3ds are all japanese which means they will almost never reach western shores; maybe I should rejoice that MH is going to be released in Western Countries at all.
Now, onwards to EA. I guess they're an ok developer, but then I haven't had that much contact with EA games.
Nintendo is looking pretty healthy for the moment so I won't nitpick on it... wait what? 3DS region locking is preventing me from playing any of my personally favoured titles and that is a huge shame IMO; I'd give a leg to play MH3G.
Ubisoft? Good job man, love those Assassin games. Keep up the good work, just remember to give some PoP games and I'm happy.
Activision hm... PLEASE DO SOMETHING ELSE THAN COD. PLEASE
Konami. CASTLEVANIA FUCK YES. The 2D games were entertaining, but LoS took the cake. Definitely satisfied my hunger for quality action games.
Developers as a whole: Games are as fun as usual, but too many games have lost their unique flavor and originality. Big-budget games used to mean something but now, big-budget games can still suck.

Put enough special effects and hype behind a game it will probably sell millions no matter how crappy the game actually is, the game industry is probably just now figuring this "golden truth" out within the last ill say 8 to 10 years its only the fans that are left disapointed, to tell the truth they can probably rerelease streetfighter and just add a new character or two, call it something like "streetfighter super ultra turbo" and for the cost of a some new coding and packaging make a pretty huge profit...shit kinda sucks right now.

Spoiler:
Lol i am on denial? Not everyone must be fans of the game u said above lol. I only played on CoD and that WW2. I never touched battlefield series at all and how those other gamer loving this kind of game making consoles non gaming entertainment machines?
If u don't like those game simply avoid them like i do.
U just don't noticed that u are minority and urself thought that if u are not playing game that other gamer played means u are better gamer?
And to comment about not enough originality. Do ever heard the saying that "If it is not broken, why should we change?" especially on industries. They will not change a game mechanic just because a small number of people wanted the change. Most of the fans, wanted the game to stayed that way so ur innovation thing will not always be accepted. Monster Rancher series is one of the series that failed when they tried to innovate as most of the fans wanted to have the good old monster rancher two mechanic that comes on DS.
And also there are some new games that innovates. Ever played Ghost Trick on DS? Kirby spin off series? Half Minute Heroes? What did i do to deserve this Badman?
In the end, it depends how u find the game being innovative or not. Some people would said that this game is stupid and not innovative enough, while there will also be gamer who loved the game and said that the game is very innovative which shows each person has their own perspective of innovation and on what scales they consider the new game to be innovative. U are just ignorant about this facts and thought everything should goes ur way.
Spoiler:
Lol the case on Blue Bomber is just baddddd. The fact that the father of Blue Bomber has left the company saddened me more lol seeing that i have been following the series from Megaman 1(yup from the 8 bit T_T) So in this part i will said Capcom sucks balls. However other than the blue bomber series. they still produce Okami DS which is a very fun game, Ghost Trick easily takes up the cake. So i try to control the hate and just went into playing other goodies from Capcom.
And about MH, they already said that they are bringing the game this year, u should be happy lol seeing the previous Portable series never come and also u must consider how many things that they must translated into English which can also cause longer time for them to release the game here not to mention the region lock can also caused them more times tweaking the mechanics.
While for 3DS region lock, Nintendo has been region locking their handhelds after DSi and all of their consoles is also region locked, so it is not a new thing anymore lol..... even thing it sucks hard T_T.

I miss those games where there is more focus on story then graphics and if it has it, multiplayer. ;~; most games now adays are a bit predictable or just suck completely.
now if you excuse me, I will be playing the games that made me emotional cause of a beautiful story and grew attached to the characters.

Lol there are games that still focus more on story and gameplay. Xenoblade, Last Story is one of those game.Ghost Trick,Inazuma Eleven, Frontier Gate,Rhythm Heaven Fever, etc.
On those old days there also have lots of their share of bad games especially on SNES(Remember Back to the Future?) I believe it is nostalgia effect that causes most gamer, i believe u and me are also affected here, where we always consider that older game is always better.

Well from what me and many of the gaming armada see that there is indeed many new IP's and that we like and have caught our attention. Now original IP's that have some history and a level of quality that must be met. Look at the new Twisted Metal it has everything the originals have it just does not have anything new too massively separate it from the past entries. We the consumer want both quailty and quantity too justify anything on par or beyond a sixty dollar price tag.
If nit picking means too point out flaws in an IP then SeriousSAM why do we need reviewers then? Those people give out bias unfair reviews too new IP's that did not pay them but give IP's that have paid them off good scores. Hell Famitsu was the last fair review site and now they have become corrupt. Asura's Wrath mind you I thought was fun however it has been shown that Famitsu has been paid off too give a good review of that title.
This is beyond us, games, scores, industry, business, fun, and innovation. It will never be beyond community however what this represents is nothing more then a public announcement.

Older IP problem has always been that. U are the type of player that wanted more innovation in one game to shows the difference between this series with the previous series and i understand that as i also sometimes hope that the game can provide something new and fresh.
However u must understand that there are some players that "hated change" they wanted the game to stay close to the previous series and if some thing is changed, they will easily said the game sucks. Fire Emblem 12 with Casual mode, Sonic 2D fans vs 3D fans, Mario 2D vs 3D fans, Monster Hunter claw system and lock on system is probably the best example for this case. So it is very difficult to said which one is correct or not here.
Well for game review, personally Famitsu or any other reviewer has always been bias toward big companies as they must past companies permission for giving reviews on their product.
The best way to avoid this is just to follow ur gut feeling whether the game is good or bad.
For Example: I love Infinite Space that is released by Sega for DS system as i believe the battle system and the story really hit my taste however IGN reviews said that this game is only 7/10 why? because the game need the player to learn a lot of the battle concept before being able to play the game. This shows because the reviewers taste is also different from us, some can give the marks higher while some can give it lower.

Ok...I will tell you this much look at the Advance Wars series...It went from being a fun unrealistic story driven strategy game to a fun realistic story driven strategy game in the last recent game. What Intelligent System did right was change the tone of that series without making it noticable that the game itself was just as much the same as past entries with more playablity. I could careless if "It is a game that simulates the grittiness of war like a war game should be." That is when an identity crisis usually starts up within a series. An example would be the resident evil series and the silent hill series.

I know that. I am just saying that was the most bias review Famitsu has done in recent memory.
You know what is funny about your example get this IGN "the kings of bias reviews" reviewed Infinite Space which is published by SEGA and developed by Platinum Games. Famitsu reviewed that game also and loved it. My point? IGN is full of casual gamers if the first thing you complain about in a game is a learning curve. Now mind you Famitsu always gives Platinum high marks but here is another example.
(I hate this example)When IGN reviewed Lost Planet 2 the reviewer complained about the respawn system and how he could not stop getting hit by the big monsters. Hmm...what is wrong with his statement? Well I can tell you right now this guy did not play the game at all.
How?
Simple solution too dealing with respawns is too open up nodes around the level so you can respawn there and not at the beginning of the level. I saw the reviewer running up head strong too the creatures like he fucking was wearing a power suit like in your typical I am space marine. I aim weapon at middle of screen on targets and make things dead. That is not how you engage the creatures fight them from a distance or get close use your grappling hook on weak spots of creature and shoot while holding on for dear life (that and many other strategies).
Bottom line...It has in my humble(can't believed I typed this) opinion NOTHING too do with taste if that is the case then maybe it is the reviewer skills at playing video games that need work. I have played a variety of games and I never complain about a learning curve. Why? Simple I always anticipate one however as of late video games have become bastardized and I can already figure out the style of a game without reading a manual most of the time.
Remember taste only applies too the story of that game NOT the playability...
