Three Arrests Made in Connection with the PSN Breach
0
["quote"=wrote]Members of "hacktivist" group Anonymous have been arrested in Spain for their suspected involvement in both the PlayStation Network breach and attacks on Spain's Central Electoral Board.
The identity of the suspects have not been released, according to a report on The Register (via Joystiq).
One arrest was made in Barcelona, one in Alicante and one in Almeria. The three people taken into custody are alleged to have the ability to direct Anonymous operations. Indeed, Spanish police believe the detainees constitute "a key cell" of the group.
According to the report, a server hosted in the Spanish city of Gijon was seized in the process.
Anonymous have sent out mixed message about their involvment in the hacks. While they have previously denied being behind the breach that lead to PSN credit card security being compromised in April, they also "declared war" on Sony after the company targetted George "Geohot" Hotz for jailbreaking the PlayStation 3.[/quote]

I say send them to prison! Make them spend 20 years with a dick up their ass.

Are you saying that because of their "suspected" involvment with the Sony hack or because they've been tampering with the electoral process of the nation they were arrested in? I suspect that the only reason why they were even arrested to begin with was for the latter. Call me cynical, but I don't believe that the Spanish police would honestly give a fuck as to what happens to a Japanese electronics company.

Except for the fact that Sony is a multinational electronics conglomerate and the fifth largest media conglomerate in the World. If Sony wants them arrested, I'm pretty sure they'll get arrested in w/e country they are in.
Anyway, the credit card hack and PSN downtime was not amusing, so I dun care, let them rot in a Spanish prison or wherever.

Be that as it may, knocking out an online service for video games seems almost trivial compared to fucking with a nation's politics.

Those welcome back gifts were useless though, I didn't download any of them. It would have been better if DLC's were free instead.

This is nobody but sonys fault really. It's just sad to see people rush to the defense of a console that somehow fails in every area.

What kind of pesos? Mexican pesos, Filipino pesos?
Usually if I'm going to save to buy something I usually draw up a chart and put it on my fridge to show how much I'm spending per week/month etc and a limit to how much I'm allowed to spend per week/month. This way I'll be aware of how much I'm spending and how much I've saved.
PS: No idea why I got -rep just cause I said the obvious -_-"

Spoiler:
My bad, meant to -rep. Don't be hating. I'll -rep that away tomorrow then -rep you the one I owe ya on Tuesday.
That will probably get me -rep but oh well. Anywho, on topic, I think that they should walk on the Sony aspect but rot for the politics. That may just be because I hate Sony in every way, shape, or form. Almost as much as I hate Nintendo....greedy bastards not putting Zelda where it belongs....
On the Xbox 360 (not kinect). I mean, all I want is to play Zelda with co-op on Xbox Live. I mean, they are losing money keeping it on the Wii and 3DS. Not many people really like either (that I know). The Wii is a nice retreat when you have a kid or want a break from hardcore gaming and the 3DS is the only decent hand held console imo. Because the PsP is god awful.
Sony, do us all a favor, and just make us bigger TVs. Stop trying to corner the console market unless you're gonna make an affordable gaming pod. Then I will love you.
There I went, ranting again. I'ma post this anyway. I don't feel like erasing it.

All I'm saying is, those guys have been fucking with Spanish politics and have been arrested for it. It's entirely possible that those same men could have been involved in the Sony hack, but I highly doubt it. The police say that these men were also part of Anonymous, when pretty much anyone that wants to be a part of Anon, can be. If you ask me, I'd say that they just tossed out their suspected involvment in the Sony hack as a way to make their arrest seem more productive than it really was.

How much do your games cost? I just did the currency conversion and damn 48.50 pesos per hour is little in my country.
PS: I didn't think so, but I was planning to -rep that panda guy if he really was going to do that to me.

Sony's security system was (and is) on the same end as banks, and even banks get robbed once in a while. Do you usually blame the bank, or the robber? I dun see why the hackers are seen like some kind of Robin Hood in this case, since They are the ones that ruined gaming for us.
Concerning the Welcome Back gift, imo it is a lot more than we deserve, seeing how much shit we give Sony for something they can not control. They have no obligation to give the players anything at all, since the players are the ones that broke their toy (that would be PSN). Also, you only see the few games listed as the gift; check out your free PSN Plus as well, you get about another 10 free games (mostly small and cheap, yes, but still good games) from there.
Besides, what do ya expect; that if Microsoft get hacked they'll give you free copies of every new AAA-game for a year? Don't be stupid, this way no one looses and everybody wins.

I'm gonna assume you live with your parents unless you don't? Otherwise just getting 1.7k - 3k should take up at least a few week of saving.

As I said, Sonys firewall and security system was good, very good in fact. That usually doesn't matter; the bigger the hurdle, the more tempting are they to crack for a cracker. No matter what they do or what firewall they get, it can always get cracked.
From what I can see, the only thing Sony handled badly was how vague they was with the details on what had been leaked at the hacked, but that was mostly because they could not give a definitive answer.

If Microsoft got hacked, they'd probably give out something on par with Sony's free gifts, if not more so that they could compete with Sony. After all, their online service actually requires payment, so people would be reasonably pissed if it was unavailable. To top things off, they would also probably slap a bounty on the hacker's(') ass just to show that they're serious about catching the one(s) responsible.
I don't know if you guys knew, but MS does have a history of putting bounties on the heads of certain hackers and the code-writers of a few viruses. One such example was a $250,000 bounty put on the writers of the Conficker virus back in 2009. The same bounty was also put on the writers of the Blaster worm in 2003. And those are just for single viruses. If it ever does come to someone hacking XBL, I would expect the bounty to be significantly higher. After all, that's their bread and butter they're fucking with.

Of course you'd blame it on the bank, you don't keep that many peoples important information then guard it with some sleeping dude.
