I stopped wasting time running around looking for ratings a long time ago.I couldn't care less what some website thinks.
If I want it, I'll get it anyway.
I agree, reviews only give you an idea of what the game contains but it's only the opinion of the reviewer.
Not to mention a reviewer from IGN got fired because he reamed a genuinely bad game.
In the end it's up to the player to determine if it's a good or bad game, it's like the case of FF14 it bombed with the critics but I've met people who bought it despite the bad reviews and enjoyed it.
So if you want to find out which game is more fun to you play the game then come back and share us your view on the games.
Edit:
I think C&C died after C&C Generals and its expansion.
The games became more like Warcraft which is really disappointing as that simplicity of C&C was just lost after EA bolted on too many features on units.

You guys, I am disappoint.
Shogun: Total War was amazing, best in the series. The era just worked so well, with the ninjas and their videos, best variety of troops and badass invincible Kensai. I actually hate that it doesn't work on my Vista PC. Medieval was a great game, updated and interesting if a bit less fun to play, and I've only otherwise seen Rome being played, but it looked decent. Also, note: AoE 1 and 2 were great games. The small unit caps made them feel a bit archaic as soon as stuff like Empire Earth came into the fray, but the style, gameplay and depth of history/tech for nations were wonderful.
C&C is equally legendary. Cheesy videos with Kane and James Earl VaderandLionKing Jones, some epic story lines, electric gameplay, time-variable multiplayer (unlike Civ) and cool-as-fuck units. I agree that they took a turn with EA's acquisition of Westwood - Red Alert's 1 + 2 are legendary, Tib Sun is brilliant and Renegade is, well, Renegade - but C&C 3 was nonetheless a fun, impressively pretty and pretty addictive game, and playing the modern nations in Generals wasn't bad either.
I've probably spent more time playing Total War games by their nature, but the C&C games will defend their corner in my heart. Both are brilliant in different ways; I think the difference is that Total War still has some life in it if they take it in the right direction, where as it might be time, after cancelled projects and a decade of indifference, to put C&C to bed.

I grew up on Command and Conquer titles, it wasn't until high school that I got Shogun Total War. So C&C brings up fond memories when I load up The Last Decade on my computer and Total War is just good fun. Yuri's initiates were broken in the Red Alert 2 expansion pack.

Lame argument from authority. Do what the rest of us do and make an argument from self-authority. For example, gamespot's opinion on this matter is worth shit because I said so.
Simply because Gamespot as a reviewer is worthless.
Go get us a PC Gamer review, NOW THAT ONE MATTERS.
@topic: I rather enjoyed playing the Total War series more than the Command and Conquer series.

Lets see, all that vote C&C say that they have never played Total War, and all that vote Total War have played both... Hmh...
