Trends in Video Games that Suck Shit
0
Alright. Let us get all the rage out.
What are some stupid trends in video games that just piss/annoy the fuck out of you?
Unskippable cutscenes.
Fuck this shit. I do not want to see the same damn cutscene over and over again if I'm replaying a game. Case in point. Mass Effect 2. I played the shit out of that game and I was fucking sick of that beginning and the segments with Illusive Man. All fucking cutscenes should be skippable. But just make the button out of the way so that the player doesn't accidentally press it and skip it.
Graphics over gameplay.
No.No. No. No. NO!! Graphics does not equal a good fucking game. Developers need this beat into their heads. Graphics should just be the icing on top. Make the fucking game based on gameplay first, then worry about graphics. I'll always choose a shitty looking but good game from older generation than a flashy looking piece of shit.
Shitty sequels.
Ok. If you're going to make a sequel. Make sure its GOOD. Don't just make a sequel just to fucking cash in on the success of the first game. That is what kills games.
Overhyping games.
Ok, this is definitely the fault of gamers and the media. Don't over fucking hype the game. All it does is set gamers up for disappointment. Just because the game looks pretty fun in trailers or on paper, don't make it seem like the next revolutionary thing.
Shit voice acting/stupid cheesy lines.
Another big one. Make sure your fucking characters should sound like they should. And don't write lines that are dumb. It makes the characters look stupid and pulls gamers away from the game.
Story.
Don't fucking skimp out on a story. A story can be what makes a game good or fucking amazing. Spend some time developing the story. I do not want to be just given some lame ass excuse to pushed to the next part of the game. Give me a reason to fucking care about what I'm doing. Case in point, Killzone 2/Modern Warfare 2. What the fuck? The story in Killzone 2 was bullshit. It told you next to nothing and just literally told you to do shit. Modern Warfare 2 needs no explanation.
Copying.
Stop. Fucking. Copying. Shit. I don't mean just borrowing an idea. I mean full blown fucking copying it to the point where the games are the fucking same. When a game comes along with a good idea, new games in development seem to like taking that idea and then beating it to death. If you're going to copy something, put a different touch on it. Make it your own. Example: The leveling up system that started in Modern Warfare two. Every fucking online-shooter has that shit now. Darksiders. It literally stole everything from Zelda. Dante's Inferno. Nothing but a shit version of God of War. Don't fucking beat an idea to death.

This level system is way before Modern Warfare 2. It uses the same one as Modern Warfare. Then before those games, there was Rainbow Six Vegas and Halo. Levelling rank has been around a long time x.x

In all honesty, I only played a part of Killzone. But I played Killzone 2 at a friends house. I felt the story was completely lacking. No emotional connection whatsoever to any of the characters. I barely payed any attention to the story at all. All I felt was that it told me to go here and do shit. Nothing else.

well sir i suggest you play both game and read the link i've given you once you done that please tell me your opinion "i'm not angry" =)

Well, what do you expect? When a million people rate a single game a 9.5/10 in their oh-so-famous magazine or online article, who all do you think is looking? SUrely game developers would want to have their own game receive such a prestigious rating.
Unfortunately not many of them seem to understand the word originality.
EA and Ubisoft, god damn.

Whoops. My bad. I meant the first Modern Warfare. Must be a little sleepy. But you are correct. There were other leveling systems in shooter before it. However, MW was the one that made it mainstream.

As I've already raged about, I hate shitty gameplay. And the first Killzone did not appeal to me. And as I've already said, I felt that Killzone 2's story was completely lacking. Perhaps it's because I did not play the first one, but I still felt that the story could have been much better fleshed out. But it's an opinion. Whether you agree or disagree doesn't matter to me.

over-hyping games
Usually its only the publisher side that does this. Although some devs try to overhype things by using big words on some features already existing in some games only rephrased. This is an unavoidable fact of life since most devs need publishers to sell their games for them.
Shitty sequels
While i agree on some games do not need sequels, people are not going to let go of a cash cow that willingly. They will just milk it dry no matter how crap it is.Usually a sequel in development is pretty much okay but due to emphasis on multiplayer, the overall development suffers as resources are allocated to multiplayer.
copying
Its pretty much unavoidable now.The only reason why games are identical to each other is selling a unique game is very difficult for publishers and risky.

You should have played folklore, the english dub version.

Dante's Inferno. Nothing but a shit version of God of War.fag of a game. "Oh poet,(<-this poet character springing out of nowhere from the game is stupid enough) the bishop said he would pardon all the bad things we did during the holy crusade. so i grabbed the closest villager next to me, fucked him in his ass, and came all over his armpits. now, some shadowy dude took my wife. i need to go to hell"
stupid. dante's inferno wasn't about you fighting the way through hell for being a faggot.
its just some stupid 'cool' factor to have a reference to something ancient, like what god of war had towards greek mythology(character-wise).

I can cope with the others but bad gameplay is ALWAYS a deal breaker for me.

Yes, graphics over gameplay is definetely the worst issue here. Overhype is also a big issue. And I also strongly agree with the sequels thing.
All in all, good topic bro (don't remember anything to add atm, sorry). I like your rage.

I don't know about you guys, but all these teen heroes is what I find to be annoying. We play all these games with all these teenage kids who go gallivanting around saving people by hacking away at the bad guys even though they too are living beings. I just can't fathom some kid cutting down a whole bunch of enemy soldiers and then gets on his ship with his buddies and is traumatized over the fact he can't finish his crew-mates batch of cookies. Who the hell makes cookies after just slaughter a whole dungeon full of lizard-men and monsters, comes home to find your grandfather turned to stone, and then makes a patch of f****** cookies?
Apparently, emotionless little girls who summon hell hounds with their magic.
If I said this stuff back about 50 to 100 years ago they would think the girl is a witch and she be either committed to a psychiatric ward or burned. Oh how the times have changed...

My most hated trend, or maybe second after the graphics over gameplay problem, is the tendency to value multiplayer over single player. I do not have a bunch of people ready to play with me at all times. In fact, most people I know don't even like the same games I like, or just don't have the money to buy everything. Usually I let this slide since I'm not really interested in most games that do this, anyway. But the next Pokemon Ranger game really managed to piss me off with this point again. I don't care too much about that line either, actually, just playing them to get the Pokemon you can transfer to other games, but one of these needing a multiplayer-only mission? I know exactly one other person with a DS, and that's my sister. And she does quite definitely not have the money for that, being a typical poor university student.
