wolfenstein 3d was the first real FPS, and that's the newest genre.

Most RPGs especially JRPGs have their game situated in a different dimension from our own so they have a different variety of creatures there from our own. Not explaining it meaning they have been there from the very beginning similar to how we always had reptiles, birds and mammals without a clear explanation.
As for the persona series, since the setting of the series is a clone of our world they had to make an explanation to what changed their world into something different from our own.
But yes I agree, it's always nice to have explanations on how problems arose including monsters and stuff.
Hmm... yeah that kinda makes sense.
Still, the constant threat of monsters would leave mankind in a desperate state if the world was like in an RPG...

So? Does that mean that just because an fps uses wolfenstein's basic idea for gameplay makes it a direct copy of it? No.

Another game about the nazis it's becoming really dull! It's not even a new game because there was a Wolfenstein game with the same name way before this one.

im just saying, basically every game is a clone of something else since then. there is no such thing as true originality.
also nazis/ww2 are ok when theyre used in an interesting way.

no, I don't really care, it's silly to expect every game to be completely original. otakumax is the one that seems to think that. maybe you should learn to read and follow conversations a bit better. he started it by saying,
You know what's the worst trend? (for me at least) Clones! I fucking hate clones! make your own style of gameplay!

A lot of these I agree with.
Here's another: when a game tries so hard to be art that it ends up diminishing the gameplay or having no gameplay experience. There's nothing wrong with trying weird ideas, or even making unplayable art games if that is one's aim as a dev, but it bothers me that reviewers then go out and claim these games are amazing because of their artisticness when really they are unplayable. I want to play games that were designed for me to play and enjoy. If they also happen to be artistic or innovative, even better, but I don't want to play something that was designed to prove a point or satiate someone's artistic ego and basically ignores the player.
See "The Path," though to a lesser degree, I thought BioShock suffered from this a little. Everyone raved about the awesome story and world, but the game was really repetitive and got boring fast in terms of actually playing the game. I haven't played it, but it sounds like Heavy Rain suffers a little bit from it too, and that if the dev had spent a little more time making the game coherent rather than trying to be artsy and cute with it, it would have been amazing.

That reminds me of a PS2 game called Fahrenheit (AKA Indigo prophecy). It was very very similar to heavy rain, but the control scheme in 'action' moments was slightly different. It was a cool game, but having to memorize those random buttons in order to get through 'boss' moments was a pain.

I don't know if anyone has posted this yet but..
DLC (Downloadable Content)
I paid for your game already, why would you make me pay 5 - 10 Dollars for like a few maps or maybe like an Item of some sort in game? For something like the Sims perhaps i understand the concept of it but i see some First Person shooters now who have those gun packages "Haha pay 15 dollars and you can have this package of sniper rifles" the only DLC there should be are expansions to a game and they should be significant not something you can clear in like 5 hours.

good point... it's just a business tactic that users can just wish to remove...

Nope at least in Fahrenheit something actually happened. Heavy Rain can be called as "Heavy Normal Boring Life" For most of its moments. But Heavy Rain gets better once you go to the climax.

(the joke was that they are from the same developer and its funny he's saying it's "VERY VERY SIMILAR TO HEAVY RAIN")

Not going to read through the whole thread, but it's pretty irritating how many games are by default so easy-mode for gamers nowadays because people don't want to adapt and can't handle a challenge.

It's like there's no middle ground. Either the game is too easy, for the so-called casual gamers, or too hard, for the so-called hardcore gamers.
Another thing that pisses me off, though it doesn't have much to do with actual games, is the division between "casual" and "hardcore" gamers. It's as if you're either one or the other. It's apparently not possible to like games with good, serious gameplay and at the same time like games that are simple and fun.
