Tri-Ace technical demo

Thought I'd share this here. Tri-Ace's new engine showcase:



This video is unrelated with any future project the studio might be working on.

Hm, the fact that it is an engine demonstration aside, it is nice to see so much Star Ocean props and design in that video. Perhaps they aren't ready to pull the plug on future Star Ocean projects after all.

I would think it would be foolish of them to do as such. Star Ocean is their flagship and with the way the JRPG industry is currently, they can't afford to go strike out on their own and hope for the best with some independent title. They already did that with Resonance of Fate and it received rather lukewarm responses.

Anyway, as for the video itself, not too bad. Not terribly impressive, but I've never thought companies who delve themselves into JRPGs need to be increasingly worried about the aesthetics of their engines. A little less concern when it comes to aesthetic presentation and a little more concern with other forms of presentation is what the entire industry needs.

I have yet to see in this day and age a J-RPG combining great graphics, story and gameplay . Resonance of fate was good, but not exceptional. As for FFXIII, we know how people think about it.

The only game that gives me hope is Versus XIII, but who knows when this one'll come out. On the other side, I also know Tri-Ace have the ability to pull something incredible off and I hope they will.

New engine looks pretty good. But that won't save them if they pull that kind of stunt twice in a row, they fooled me with xbox360 version only to see a complete ps3 version coming out, this time if i see xbox360 coming out, I won't buy it, i'm waiting til ps3 version comes out and vice versa instead. The wait would be horrible but i'll save 50-60 bucks.

There was essentially no difference between the 360 version and the PS3 version, unlike the case with Tales of Vesperia. There was a small (DLC sized) amount of bonus content, anime portraits, and dual audio. That was the only addition to the PS3 version.
