I was going to play MW2 today but when I put my disc in it said unreadable, I then looked at the disc and it had cracks near the center ring, so now im asking, do you guys keep your games in their cases? or in a soft case, which is better?

I've always kept my discs in their original cases whenever I could. Never really had a problem with the disc getting cracked from however it was stored.

I always put them back in the original casing. I'm very carefull with my games.
All the games I have, even the ones way back from 1995, don't have a single scratch in them.

I have always just left my games in my original boxes.
The only problem that ever happened was my Dragon Quest VIII disk got scratched. It was easy to fix with some toothpaste though.

I've alternated between the original boxes and CD cases, and never had this problem, or indeed any with scratches bar the odd pre-owned purchase. Just be thankful that it happened to a terrible game.

Some cases require more force when pushing the dvd onto it's place. And that's what can damage the discs.
While this has never happened with any of my original game cases, it has for my Swap Magic case (just a blank one I bought). Over time the middle ring started cracking, so now I don't store it in any case anymore. Fortunately it didn't reach the ring with the data, so it still works fine.
Your case is strange though, since it happened to an original game case. They should be designed to avoid such problems.

Why the hell would you use toothpaste? It's got abrasives, and scrapes the discs...
I personally keep them in their original cases, or I lay them on a table. I don't really care, except for my favorite games. Like Metroid Prime 1 n 2. Or Okami.

What the hell are you talking about? Toothpaste works perfectly. As long as you don't have the type that has like mint pieces in them or something. My disk is now working because I used toothpaste.

I've always kept it in the original case. I only had one problem but I don't think it was because the case. Coincidentally it was also on the MW2 game.

Use to keep my discs all over the place, over the many times I wrestled with my PS1 and PS2 until it ran the games!
Been looking after my PS3 discs though, having to discipline myself though, it's difficult.

I also keep all my discs in their respective cases, or in slim cases if i happen to damage the original case.
Havent had any cracks so far.

Original cases are made to protect the disc from harm. Theres no real repair for a cracked disc so its best to buy another one when you have the money.

I prefer the hard case over soft case to deter scratches. some hard cases however have a poorly designed way of holding the disc. i have had a few that had no way to "release" the disc other than brute force. when ever i get a case like that, i go rent a game or video froma rental establishment, and swap out the label. i keep the good case, and give back the one with the bad retention system. only once did they say anything about it not having their stickers when i returned it, so i said the original was destroyed.
