The only grip I have with that list is the save anywhere anytime, specifically in RPG's save points are more often than not a indicator of a upcoming boss battle or CG scene, and in more than a couple alow you to use tents or other hp/mp healing effects for your party, nothing i hate more than running up on some godlike boss after two hours of gameplay getting beat then having to start waaaaaaay the fuck over in the last town i saved.

I don't mind saving any time/place when it's on the main field, but save points in dungeon are a courtesy that I don't mind. In fact, when they give you a free hp/mp refill as part of the save, I love it.
Ex: Grandia, Legend of Legaia, Legend of Dragoon
Bad Saving: MOTHER FUCKING DRAGON QUEST GOD DAMMIT
I love DQ to death, but there is no (repeat: NO) warning for boss fights. And when they have a tendency to OP their bosses, it's irritating dying and REPLAYING TWO HOURS.
*endrant*
..sorry..

okay.
I love:
free roaming.
RPG's
being able to build life. (example: Fable.)
having swords or daggers as weapons.
Large maps.
Long storyline.
A really good story(that is why I like Japanese games.)
A good and fitting ending (again Japanese games.)
acceptable characters.
good on-line community with free roaming.
and being able to change clothing or editing something. (homes, streets, etc.)
I hate:
Bad story's.
unfitting endings.
short story.
fucked up on-line community.(over capacity, too much trolls, etc)
having all the work on something else then the storyline.
or proving that in the end one country will always stand. (usually Americans would do such a thing in both movies and games.).

good point on the saves before bosses. i was thinking of splinter cell. i remeber one level had a check point ten feet from the start, and the next one was ten feet from the end.

Love:
Customization/Character Creator (it's a major selling point to me)
Freeroam/Sandbox
Fluid combat system (Assassin's Creed and Arkham Asylum are two examples)
Wide weapon selection (Lots of guns to choose from that each fit a different playstyle)
Weapons actually seem like weapons (guns are lound and heavy and swords actually cut shit)
Good writing
Hate:
Two weapon cary limit
Regenerating health
Fake difficulty (dying because of poor game development rather than player skill)
Cheating AI (Extremely common in fighting games like Mortal Kombat where they can perfectly block every attack and then counter, AI has perfect accuracy with inaccurate weapons, etc.)
Useless friendly AI (Brink is a major offender)
Repetitive puzzle mini-games (Puzzles are pointless once you've already solved it the first time. After that, they're just wasting your time)
Warcrime guns without any ammo (This goes in hand with the two-weapon limit. Otherwise, it's just there to keep the game from getting too easy)
ESCORT MISSIONS!!!

In games with multiple warring factions, when you do a job for one faction against another, they always know it's you. even if there were no witnesses, or any other way for it to be traced back to you, they still seem to know instantly.

BlinkXPoke
Cards and Hugs abound
One thing I definitely hate is a bad community. One reason I hate CoD so much: so many assholes.
Probably another hate is abrupt ends. Building up tension to something I think will be epic, and...
...
credits. >=O
Finally, bugs and glitches. Fallout New Vegas, as much as I enjoyed it, crashed so many times. Probably have about 20 wasted hours just trying to make up for lost time.
As for love, well, I pretty much agree with what's on everyone else's lists. Though I don't mind a bad story if I enjoyed other aspects of the game enough.

I love:
a good story
a good control system
good voicing skill
free roaming environments
good graphics
save points
maps(so you know where the fuck your going)
AI that actually does something
I hate:
people who use fighting sticks
people who hack the game
people who use cheats
people who have modded items
people who are assholes online
people who play the game way to good like I haven't seen the sun in awhile good.
invisible walls
broken weapon systems
AI that cheats the game
AI thats too stupid
and thats what I could come up with...
