Depends on the game. In WoW I go with Dwarven Ranged because they can use firearms. In other games I usually pick Offensive or Defensive. I rarely pick mage.

Loner
the People's Senpai
Usually go with ranged. Nothing more satisfy then taking out a group of enemies before they even know what hit them.

It varies pretty widely, but I try to stay in the melee area of things, berserk types are my usual preference if they're there. Second choices are ranged(non-mage) or support of some sort.

I ALWAYS pick ranged. Ranged combat is pretty safe, damage isn't too bad, and it's much more fun than just walking up to a monster and hacking away.
The only thing I hate about playing ranged classes is that ranged classes have crap HP and defense.

OFFENSIVE for sure!!
Battles are more intense when it goes close face to face combat. Its either delivering massive blow with gigantic sword or flurry of combos with twin sword.
Hell, nothing can beat that.

My 1st fave is Always supportive... -_-; cause I don't want to move more often... Just heal heal heal on one spot, and run when they died...
2nd is Defensive... luring many enemies and stand on one spot... hehehe ;D
3rd is a Nuker/Wizard... Stand on one point and click a huge aoe... ;3
and last is Offensive... When I played offensive type I got bored fast... doing the same thing, close to enemy and spam skills... If I was supportive type I enjoy it because of some reckless party members I heal a lot that would keep me busy, so I won't get bored... If I got bored by being supportive type I won't heal them till [-_____]hp left then use heal group :D... They will have scary moment and the chat would continue...

Usually ranged, but never magic. if there isn't a decent non magic ranged class, i'll go with a staelther. occasionally healer, rarely buffer. sometimes if i'm feeling lazy i'll be a tank(because it's so mind numbingly simplistic).
when i played WoW i was one of the few people around to grasp the full utility of the hunter. most people only think of hunter as ranged damage and nothing more. i could do crowd control with traps and pets, defended the healer, off tank, supliment heal with bandages(hardly anyone put the effort into training first aid), and still pull at least second in dps. i could even main tank if i had the right pet, careful pulls, and with a lot of kiteing.
my point in mentioning my hunter skills is to show it's important learn about other classes abilities besides the one or two you may play most often. at the very least try out the other roles to see what they have to deal with. every so often i'd get an ADHD tank who never waited for heals to re-up mana, then screams at them and rage quit because they got themselves killed. or a damage who pulls more and more adds that overwhelm the tanks agro, or healers ability. or an off class healer who is skilled for damage or buffs, but thinks they can pull it off anyway.

Although having a berserk type character is fun going in and just ripping the enemy to shreds is very satisfying. I usually play solo so berserk isn't such a good idea facing multiple enemy's were you can't dodge. So a good balance is a must. A good balance in a weapons attack and speed is good to. you don't want a great sword but you don't want a pocket knife. Dual blades is ls good, you can get multiple attacks in to make up for it's power and can get into defense mode way faster then great swords.

I play anything as long as it keeps me interested.
But I'd have to go along the lines between offensive and range as a preference.

I play a Archer/Ranger class in all mmorpgs. It's in my nature to shoot things without being seen.

Almost always was the type to play support types, which is usually at odds with my playstyle since I'm usually a solo player.

As much as I really want to play DPS type characters, offensive mages or tanks, I always end up in the full support role.
At the class selection time, I always here "You're always awesome at supporting so just go support" or something like that.

I love being the defensive supportive type of player. I really enjoy it. I seem deadly but no where near as deadly as my team mates that i'm soaking up damage for. Whenever i play these types of games with friends i can fully rely on them to not leave me hanging and making sure i don't lose too much health in the process. :D

I am often playing typical tank and healer classes in most MORPGs but when i play games like league of legends its offensive.
