Favourite 2D RPG would be Chrono Trigger.
3D... Played so many I can't really recall of one that was way above the others.

I think I'll still have to say Baldur's Gate II. There's just something about this one that still keeps me installing and playing it again even to this day.

Chrono Trigger and Devil Survivor for me. Chrono is a classic and has great music and Devil Survivor is fun and portable. I also really like FF tactics A2. Many a night was spent grinding levels on that one.

Breath of Fire 4, my Ryu was a monster he never wanted to stay dead when he got knocked-out. my only issue form the game was that it felt like there was no story when you were playing. but the battle sytem kept me going.
Saga Frontier 2, i just fuckn love this game! i should get a new memory card and beat it some day :/

Chrono Trigger. It had everything I could want in an RPG. Simply perfect, imo.The going back in time to change the future system was brilliant. Makes me feel like playing it all over again now.
