What would be the most epic classic RPG if remade?

FF9 (one of the best PS1 games, if not the best, ever, due to a few characters that had an idea of how to lighten up instead of being full of angst), the original Shin Megami Tensei games (it's unusual, something lacking in the industry today), and Persona 2. Both of them.

Secret of Mana, provided they didn't do what they did with Sword of Mana (the GBA remake of Final Fantasy Adventure). Not that I didn't enjoy Sword of Mana, but Secret of Mana is epic as is.
I'd like to see updated or touched up 2-D graphics and higher quality sound/music (but otherwise left alone, unlike FFIV's newest remake). As far as extra's go... maybe add in some FMV's for the important events in the game like they did with Chrono Trigger for the DS (showing the video but keeping the in game events intact), a bestiary, item list, ability/spell log, ability to listen to the sounds and music of the game, and maybe some added dungeons and bosses for after you finish the main story.

I agree.. Current gen is really lacking classic J-RPGs. Besides, remaking a great game that is known as one of the best ever made, and completely changing it's gameplay mechanics to one of the most controversial games would just be a total disaster.

I thought about it, but I'm not convinced they could remake the game effectively. They had a DS port with a few extras; I think that is about the best they can do with it.

Couldn't agree more. Especially Suikoden 2, I demand a remake with voices in it. Now who played suikoden 2, and didn't wish so hard that we can hear Jowy's voice?

The Original Phantasy Star series.
IMO, the story in those is miles ahead from the cliched filled stories we have to deal with these days. Also the game could seriosuly use some game play improvement. Grinding was a chore in those games. I spent 5 hours leveling my characters just to face the first few bosses. That's one of the reasons why I haven't replayed those games as much.

Final Fantasy VII needs to get remade. It was pretty much the best RPG on PS1 and the best FF game period, with Final Fantasy X being in the close second. Give it Advent Children-styled graphics with extra stuff, and make the story actually FIT with the various spin-off sequels.

I dont get the problem with this combo. Kingdom Hearts is one of the greatest RPG series thus far. Each game sold well and has a massive fanbase, and all critics like the gameplay. Also, as much as I love FFVII more than any other RPG, its gameplay is kind of dated, not that it is a bad thing, but it would be alot better if some different type of gameplay was added on a re vamped FFVII.
