Well, the Xbox Elite has 120GB of HD, good for Rockband and DLC. Not to mention Arcade sucks.
PS3 Slim can't play PS2 games, so it's a not go in my opinion.
Winner = Xbox

Elite comes with a HD and it looks cooler.
I have two arcades and I've never had a problem with either.
There's no other difference.
Same parts.
And ANYONE who says otherwise needs to stuff it.
There's nothing different(omitting the color and HD).
PS3 is better for solo games. It has more of the special titles(example: Metal Gear).
All depends on what you wanna play.

Only the VERY OLD PS3's can play them. Not just the slims.

if your really bent on choosing between an xbox or a ps3 slim, then I also agree you should get an xbox.
And about the elites, I heard that supposedly they have less chance of getting the RROD, but I seriously doubt that. And another sad, frustrating thing to consider about the 360:

Sony is going to release a new firmware upgrade within the next month which will allow you to play PS2 games on the PS3.
Also, as Lazyasschilipepper said, the failure rate of XBOX360 is over 50% while the failure rate of PS3s are only around 10% : http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/176741.asp
I'd get a slim if I had the money.

All PS3 may get BC based on the patent that Sony filed which had the Cell processor emulate the Emotion Engine which would be applied through a firmware update.

Of course, could likely not happen at all but just thought I'll throw it out there as additional information.

I would go with the PS3 slim. Blu ray player plus a game console that has some awesome games, gets all the great third party titles as the 360 and has some awesome exclusives and even some of the "exclusives" that were on the 360.
The reliability rate is as other users have mentioned much better then the 360's. Not to mention the firmware that will allow for PS2 backwards compatibility. Sure Sony has already denied it but they denied the PS3 Slim as well.

it true that you say but i don't need the bluray and i still my ps2.
sony need to stop denying stuff. The reliability rate on the xbox is pretty high +50%

The reliability rate on the xbox is pretty high +50%Verses the PS3's reliability which is +80%. It's just a better buy then the 360. You say you don't need blu ray now but I thought the same when I first got the PS3 and I am watching Blu ray movies all the time now. Ever watched the movie Sunshine on regular dvd and then watched it on Blu ray? The difference is huge. I came to the visuals of that movie. If you don't have a HDTV then I agree the Blu ray isn't a factor for you but reliability with a console is nice.

intercooler makes ur xbox hotter than without it. bad move buddy. if u ask me, the xbox is better cuz of live, and the PS3 is pretty impresive as well, but it was just a lil too bland for me. go 4 whichever one you want cuz u will be the one buying it. not us. save up enough for both.

It really comes down to what games you want to play. Really the 360 and PS3 are pretty much balanced and similar in almost every aspect. Anyone who can so quickly tell you one versus the other with out mention of games, and at least trying to be subjective, is nothing more than a fanboy of one of the systems.
Generally 360 is considered to have better online support, but really the difference is getting smaller as time goes by, and Blu-Ray on the PS3 isn't important to gaming, and their are cheaper ways to watch Blu-Ray movies now. So with that included, that effectively eliminates the major "point" each one had in their respected favors.

my younger brothers own a PS3 while I own a Xbox360. all in all we've come to the agreement that both have their pro and contras and are basicly the same in the family's opinion.
as for the Xbox failure... A few friends of mine did experiment with them what's the best way to put them. Since most are standing up but that hinders the ventilation from the ground. Plus the DVD drive shakes a lot more when standing up.
When we put if flat it shakes less and has a better ventilation. The cause of RROD is actually stupidity on Microsofts part. Because the DVD drive didn't fit they made the cooling system of the procesor or the craphic card smaller (forgot which one). Hell they didn't care for the size of the original Xbox and now they do wich results in hardware failure.

I'll say get BOTH, best of both worlds :D But if you are only limited to one, give the PS3 a try. Personally I'm bias against the Xbox360 due to the fact I'm a PS3 owner but the bottom line is, you'll have to pay for Xbox Live and live with the failure rate of the Xbox360.
Forget about playing PS2 games on your PS3. I don't about you guys, but almost everybody I know who owns a PS2 purchases the pirated games. And the discontinued OS support for PS3? Screw that, want a OS? Get a good computer, PC gaming ftw.
PS3, Xbox360 or even PC gaming - all is good. Don't forget Natal is going to be on the PC as well as the Xbox360.

I personally prefer the PS3, my first major reason being that I have this nagging feeling of "wasting money" while I don't use my subscription to LIVE with the 360. That is just me, however, and most people don't feel like I do.
2nd and 3rd reasons are, respectively, Tales of Vesperia PS3(I'm a big RPG fan) and the price drop.
I'm not including the BC firmware update, because I have no idea when BC is going to be re-introduced.

^This, except: The PS3 is probably one of the best Blu-Ray players because it recieves updates and patches, also it probably is going to be streaming like the 360 soon - only better. Plus, you don't have to buy a 80 wireless card like you do for the 360, pay for online play, and only be allowed to use certain hdd. The Xb360 makes you buy it's harddrives, but you can put in any size HDD as long as it has the right connection (SATA?)
The PS3 is obviously a better piece of hardware, but you have to think about what games are you going to play.

Fine it may be a superior Blu-Ray player, but I highly doubt someone who wants to only watch movies is going to care about patches enough to purchase a PS3 for one. Only better? The 360 will be streaming in full 1080. The PS3 can't do any better than that. It would be an equal service, which I have to give Microsoft credit for that one. They managed to effectively eliminate one of the huge threats of Blu-Ray with that. Only thing left is the actual storage amount of DVD9s versus Blu-Ray. The 360 can use external hard drives too, but you have to know what you are doing and risk screwing up some stuff in order to save game data onto the hard drive.
As for the Wi-Fi, yeah, who knows what Microsoft was thinking on that. Their official statement is that they didn't know how important Wi-Fi would be to the future of gaming. ...you base your console on online interaction and gaming, but you didn't think Wi-Fi would be a big deal? What a load of bullshit. <.<
