There is a difference between watching a streaming and or downloading a 1080P movie and watching a Blu-Ray movie on a PS3. The PS3 is just one of the best outputting machines for the best HD experience. Of course there are stand alone Blu-Ray players that have a better output then the PS3 as far as quality and the dark colors go but it is definitely one of the best. I have watched many Blu-Ray movies and watched 1080P movies on netflix (note it wasn't on the 360 tho) and there is a difference.
Also the older 360 users got kind of ripped off cause you need a HDMI cable to get a true 1080P experience and the original 360s can't use HDMI. The original 360s claim 1080P but they are really restricted to 1080i when watching movies and it is the same for the streaming. Even the current 360s can't put out multichannel PCM. I wouldn't go as far as to say they eliminated the Blu-Ray threat. All the cinabuffs will know the difference (not that I am one).
All this is irrelevant to this person's problem cause he probably doesn't care about the differences and I'm not even completely sure he owns a HDTV.

Meh, I'm just no movie buff I suppose. I fail to see why everyone cares so much about Blu-Ray movies. I have hard enough of a time crediting some kind of miraculous picture difference between a DVD and its Blu-Ray counterpart (yes even on 1080 television sets) nevertheless trying to nitpick between 1080i and 1080p. I don't know, it feels so pretentious. Almost like I'm ashamed of society. Do we really have nothing better to do? <.<

I don't know what you were watching it on but as far as TVs go that is very important when watching a HD movie. To be honest I never did notice much difference between 720P and 1080P until I realized what the problem was. It was all about the contrast of the television. Watch a DVD on a 1080P TV with 120HZ and 30,000:1 contrast ratio, then watch a Blu-Ray movie on the same TV and there will be a large difference. In my experience as the contrast goes up the so does the quality. That is why the new LED and OLED TVs are so amazing. They have 1,000,000:1 contrast ration. I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean on Blu-Ray on one of those TVs and nearly came. I felt sad coming back home to my HDTV knowing that it won't be as good.

I don't know what it was. It was a demonstration television at a store and I don't remember what the contrast ratio was. I know my television's contrast ratio is bad (I think it is 800:1,) but I only use it for my 360 really and compared to the SDTV I was using it is like a gift from heaven. I don't know what the main television in our house is, I want to say 20,000:1, but I seriously think that is a random number that popped into my head. ... Anyway, I suppose that's why. Bottom line though I don't really care about Blu-Ray, at least not yet. Nice storage, but high definition movies can just stay away from me and I'll pretend they don't exist until I have no choice but to think otherwise. XD

xbox I dont care if people sait it has a 54% failure rate I still dont like the PS
I like the way the xbox feels
I can't stand the PS I hate the screen that comes up and the controls are the worst of all they're so uncomfortable
The 1st Xbox was pretty sturdy I dropped mine down the stairs one time and it still worked fine (even to today it still works and I can't say that about my PS2)

I always thought the fifty-four percent failure rating was a load of shit. None of the studies were done by anyone who could be considered really credible and they didn't even disseminate their results, or at least didn't prove that they did, so I don't hold it credible.

Well since I am losing the relavence of this not being a fanboy war I am gonna say it.
Without backwards Compatibility PS3 is a bigger joke than Wii. Wii entirely focusing on a comunity of gamers who couldn't care less about Gaming. PS2 and PS1 MADE playstation, and they aren't putting nearly as much effort in being a console to enjoy amazing single player action on time and time again.
I am the kind of gamer who beats a new release... and moves on... I generally choose to rent games and not own them because its onlly gonna take me 27 hours on average to beat the game and every aspect I care to play of it. 360 is producing new games at a much faster rate than the PS3, so I find the xbox 360 far more enjoyable.
If I could buy a slim and finish playing through my .hack games, and my xenosaga, and other games I'd find it worth while, lets face it the RPG classics never came back to the PS3... and they are taking their sweet ass time releasing
Final fantasy 7-9 and 1-6, Legend of Dragoon, and whole ton of other classic RPGs.. even PS2 stepped it down as far as RPG production goes from PS1... Now its come to this point where I can't think of 5 games on the PS3 That I would enjoy owning that are released.
Xbox satisfies my cravings for new games and new chalanges like no other system could.
Wii is not Chalanging.
PS3 Doesn't develope games fast enough for me to enjoy them (though maybe in 5 years I will have fun doing Catch up playing PS3 "Classics")
Xbox360 has the bigger market for RPGs, First person Shooters, Adventure, and North America. if people want their games to be sold in north america and their games are not rediculous and suited for the wii they choose two routes.
Graffics
or
Sales
from a buisiness persepctive only people who worked freakishly hard on visual appeal (something that isn't a massive appeal to myself) will choose to release based on Graffics.
The 360's more entertaining, more expensive to keep up with the games it releases than the PS3,
But you have to ask yourself "am I gonna beat MGS4 in 20 hours, Infamous in 15, and I am not that into generic racing games... What the hell else am I gonna do with my week?" you might come to the conclusion that 299,99 + 100$ for the two games your gonna play is still a tad pricey.
If you don't share the "gaming eats time and makes the boring nothingness goes away" philosophy .... You probably Have a life!
If that is not the case
Your welcome to get an Xbox Live (life) with the rest of the comunity! I hope you come back to the malfunctioning Box with the rest of North America, Its not perfect... but only the PSP is.

Sony = Nihon <3Microsoft = America
I think the choice is obvious.
That kind it makes it sound like any of us here who own a 360, and not a PS3 are traitorous because we don't support Japan. XD

As far as the reliability thing goes the Wii is first and I am not gonna say it is only because most people don't play it for more then an hour cause that would be too cliche. The PS3 is second just because it is built really well. The 360 is dead last. I don't think anyone will argue that. You can argue percentages but if you don't know that it is dead last and by a considerable margin then you're fooling yourself.
The PS3 continues to catch up to the 360 and even now Blu-Ray is on the rise more then ever. The PS3 has not failed as many are quick to say it has. Almost as if they think "hey the next consoles are right around the corner". The only statement I think that you can make clearly that no one should argue is that the Wii has "won". If it was just luck, smart moves by Nintendo, the games or the price, whatever it was it worked and it worked damn well.
I am still a PS3 fanboy and the PS3 is gonna give the 360 a run for it's money. After all sales of over half a million in the first week of the Slim's release are nothing to turn a blind eye to.

You guys are putting way too much thought into this. I've already told you everything that you need to know.

Spoiler:
This might have had some truth to it say a year ago but most good third party games are now on both the 360 and the PS3. So I don't see why it makes a difference anymore which console you choose other then strictly being preference and the exclusives that come with it. The PS3 is getting 360 "exclusives" and they are better versions of the game. The PS3 if anything is the better console to buy from a hardware stand point. Especially now that the price is $299.

If you want a online gaming experience then go with the 360
The ps3 is great for hardcore gaming plus with the slim it shouldn't overheat or get too hot fast.
Just putting it out there, The Wii is great for controls, gameplay, and stories
overall go with the ps3 once the firmware comes out and the new games that hit the shelves around thanksgiving and Christmas.
Id go more into this but then ill sound like a ranter or specific gaming system lover

Personally, I rather choose a PS3 simply cause I've never once had a Sony product malfunction or break (PC or playstation). And, after playing Gears of War online, I can say the XBox community is a bit too lively for me (lot's a' 14 year old hooting pricks).
Also, now that the prices have pretty much leveled off, for the most part, it's really about what type of games you like and what you want from your console.

Are you kidding me!?! Animeholic is just a hard ps3 fanboy. You're comment about the PS3 catching up to the Xbox360 is only the tip of the iceberg. Sure in sales figures it looks nice but in-terms of online, games library, software features and exclusivity M$ are far ahead on the scoreboard.
And you comment about "pre-exclusive xbox360 games porting over to the PS3 and being better" is absurd! By my count only three have jumped, Ninja Gaiden 2, Tales of Vesperia & Start Ocean. Sure they have added new "content", but that wouldn't make the game any better, just more time consuming.
Though i guess in the end sales figures is all that really matters to these companies now. Basically xbox360 = software,
ps3 = hardware.

I never said they are just about to get them or they will be ahead anytime soon that would justify you going to these lengths of shock and awe at my comment. You're overacting for whatever reason.

Of course not all of those are in all the exclusives that have jumped ship but I can give an example for each one if you need. PS3 versions of the exclusives that have jumped ship have most of those enhancements. If you don't think that those make it better then it's your opinion but to me and just about anyone that makes it better.
Also I never said all over even mentioned a number of exclusives that have jumped ship from the M$ exclusive selection. So I don't see how it is absurd when it is true that exclusives that were only for the 360 have gone over to the PS3 and now are better or at least my definition of better.

I can agree with this.
