Wow Visual Novels are amazing.

Argh wish someone had told me about Visual Novels earlier, I never knew they can be some captivating. I just finished G-Senjou no Maou and damn every moment was priceless. Hell I'm even beginning to like classical music now. Also the ending was grand.

I agree. I didn't get into visual novels until just recently; I gravely underrated their strength. I mean, I cried at the end of 'Where the Red Fern Grows' and books such as that, and got a bit emotional on some others.. But the V.N.s I've completed recently have left me with much deeper feelings in both positive and negative directions.

Yeah its crazy with this whole thing with Megaupload, however where there's a will there's away. Also I'll have to check out 'Where the Red Fern Grows'. 'G-Senjou no Maou' was just so amazing, its been awhile since I read or watched anything like this. Lately some animes have lacked what I've witnessed in this Visual Novel. I've found a new source of entertainment. (^.^)

Heh, well it's just a children's novel but the purity of the boy's love never fails to touch me, even though I've probably read it ten times. I didn't wanna make you think it's similar to visual novels, just that it is a touching story.

Hmm still interesting, I'm mostly draw to touching stories.

Play more, don't underestimate the sex oriented ones too. VNs aren't just about sad or epic stories.

I've been having a hard time finding solid English translations for the more sexually oriented ones. Sadly, too much bad grammar makes me lose my train of thought. Not that I can't take quite a bit.. But stuff that's anywhere near Olddog's realm is kryptonite.

Come on people it is not the end of the world, yet. google a torrent for a game you want. OH NO! You actually have to do something. use utorrent, its good and stuff.

In reality I wasn't all that phased by Megaupload's being shutdown, I use Torrents anyways. Right now I'm keeping my eyes on 'Koikishi Purely ☆ Kiss' as I play 'Ever17'.

Just concentrate on Ever17. Play through the entire damn thing before doing anything else. It is honestly one of the greatest VNs I have ever played.

Yeah princess waltz sucked. Wanko was slightly better.

I finally got a good set of speakers and played back the music from Ever17. Big bass all over =D

Try playing Little Busters!, Fate/Stay Night, Clannad, Tsukihime, and Kira Kira. They are all just as good as devil in the g-string and ever17.

Katawa Shoujo is surprisingly okay too. I really liked Lilly's and Hanako's route and Kenji's character is just awesome.

Aside from the sex what is good about the sex oriented VNs?

If the whole point of the VN is be an eroge why not just stick with doujins? I do like the H in VNs but I feel that a VN should have a story. In some ways a VN is worse when it has hentei because now I have to explain to someone why F/SN is legitimately awesome and not just a porn game.

Ever read a novel? Or a fan fiction? If so, you'll notice they're written more like stories (lots of inner details and intricacies) than comics and doujins. That level of detail, even through just mere words, invokes such a powerful fire in readers, when done properly.

tl;dr, if done right, text-only can be a huge boner maker.

Now, imagine that power COUPLED with pictures as well. That is where VNs have a huge advantage over doujins. That...is the power of words...

These kind of mindset is what I meant as "underestimating". Do you think a sex oriented VN is just there for the sex? Do you think that it doesn't have any story at all? Do you think there's no character development at all?

Generalizing all sex oriented VNs into the "mindless-sex, watching-a-H-anime-is better" and can't even see what's under those sex scenes classifies you as close-minded.

Besides the obvious high sexual content, they will always have stories and character developments. I'm not saying that "all of them" are good, I'm just saying don't underestimate them and actually try to play as much as you can. And honestly not all Sex oriented VNs have a bad story, it could actually be comedic, dark themed or even have heavy drama.

A Good VN player actually knows which sex oriented VNs are actually boring and which one that are actually interesting.

VNs are not just about "Sob-stories", "Mind-fuck plot twists" or "Epic action".

I will still tell people the truth that VNs are originally 18+ and just simply tell them "See, don't underestimate a VN. Just because it has sex scenes doesn't mean the story is mindless."

Yeah I'm getting into Ever17, and also I have to agree with everyone even though I've only played two VNs. The reasoning behind the sex scene aren't just to be there, but to drive the story and solidify the characters, and in G-Senjou no Maou it was basically the make or break of the whole story.

The history of a visual novel will always be associated with sex and it won't change that easily. Even when you're just telling people about the SFW ones, they will surely bump into the ones that fall into the classic definition.

Those with sexual content are still the majority and it will stay that way until something changed Japan.. lol

Even Fate/Stay Night, your "epic story" that you know well won't exist without sex scenes, because Type-Moon made Fate/stay Night to target the male market that at that time was dominated by other Vns that targets male specifically like, (these are VNs that are released at the same day as F/SN in Japan)

If it weren't for the current consumer demand we probably winded up with "Fate/Protoype". It can be as good as Fate/Stay Night, but at that time there's no guarantee that it will sell well, since it will obviously be tagged as an Otome Game.
