2K is bringing back this classic game as an FPS, some people are upset, but apparently they are trying to stay as close to the original as possible.
We will still be having Team members joining us on the field (weather AI controlled or Co-op, unsure at this time), we will still be finding alien tech and researching the aliens in order to find better ways to fight them. We still have a base, and we still can choose which disturbances that we check out.
Now for the differences. The year is NOT 2023, it is the 1950's. We no longer have an overlord view of our units, we are on the field battling the aliens on the ground. The aliens are not a hash of different styles, but one overarching form of a black-slime like blob.
Your objective is no longer to kill all the aliens in an area (or looking for that one you just cant find.) but instead you are to go out and research, take pictures of the victims, of the aliens, find some resources, the trouble escalates as more aliens come in from where they are coming from, more fighting, your allies are dying one by one, your alone now, should you retreat, or gather more evidence... the choice is decided for you as a monolith appears in the sky above you, transforming into a more circular shape as you watch. Run, your weapon do nothing to this thing, and it is starting to suck in and crush everything in its path, turn around and RUN.
This sequel is shaping up to be pretty interesting, more info as my PC Gamer mags get more info.

This game is gonna be so much bullsh*t. They just looked at the idea of making Fallout into FPS and thought that they can lay their hands on something *Holy*.
Fallout was successful just because of the new to the series who never played the actual Fallout games or Elder Scrolls lovers.
And Microprose already tried to make X-COM into FPS, which came out as X-COM Enforcer. It failed miserably.
I don't know how other people think about this crazy idea but, i'm never gonna buy this crap.
I would rather replay the original games.
P.S. Everything i said is my opinion, don't feel offended.

Altough I miss the classic XCOM games I'm not so sure about it.
altough the local game magazine wasn't so sure as well they are rather impressed.
Also it's not your classic case of aliens we knew from XCOM. from what they said we mainly fight Liquids, pure energy and monolits.

Big fan of the original XCOM series. I'll welcome anyone who tries to recreate the charm and fun that the original had, and I wish them luck, it's a difficult thing to do. I've played many XCOM and UFO remakes and haven't really liked any of them, but someone is bound to get it someday.
I'll keep my eye on this new one, but won't be getting my hopes up.

Enforcer wasnt a FPS if something it was a third person shooter and a piece of **** at that. It's true that there was a X-com game that wass going to be a FPS -X-com Alliance- but it never saw the light.
Most probably they are just going to take the name and make a totally unrelated game.
And the worst part is that I'll probably end buying it, I hope that at least is better than X-com Interceptor (though the sun destroyer missiles were good)

While my preview couldn't give it justice, I think this does a MUCH better job of showing how the info-gathering portion of the game is.

This trailers proves that 2K is *NOT* resurrecting X-COM, they're taking the body and sodomizing it with a pile driver. That trailer was more Flash Gordon than X-COM.
UFO Enemy Unknown was about fear and despair: your enemy was better armed, armored and was ultimately poised to overwhelm you numerically as well. On most missions it wasn't unusual to loose a guy or two even with decent equipment... and in the beginning you could have fewer survivors than dead.
The game was also jam-packed with with UFO and conspiracy theories of its age... this game has nothing that I could identify as such.
It's actually Bioshock rehashed as another game... not X-COM.

But that's exactly whats happening in that trailer. While the aliens not having weaponry, conventional weapons do incapacitate them, for a bit, and then the black ooze starts to recombine and attack again, those special weapons you saw have to be unlocked by gathering alien 'materials' and you do not have access to any of them when you start.
Those enemies do not stop spawning, in the original you had to scour the map for that "one last alien" that you cant seem to find, here the "fear and despair" increases more, those aliens do not stop coming. You don't "kill the last one" your weapons that CAN kill those things will run out of ammo before the area run out of enemies. And if you take too much time, the monolith comes down and starts killing everything, and you wont have anything to take THAT think on until the end of the game.
Your people CAN die, if you didn't notice the one black ooze was skullfucking then lethally deepthroating one of your men, and from what 2k said, there are negative impacts for letting your men die.
And as for conspiracy theories, your basically documenting an alien invasion, and have no idea what they want or why they are doing it. So its your job as the leader of a secret service stationed in Nevada desert to go out and take on these places where aliens have basically gone and fucked up the Americana of 1950's.
I've never played X-Com, but I'm going to give this version a chance, maybe if I played the original I'd feel different about it. But to me its just like Bethesda taking over Fallout. People are going to complain about change, even if that change gets more people into the game.

I've never played X-ComI guess this explains a lot. Have to agree with Flaser myself.

it's the typical "new game with classic game name" to attract more crowd.

there are negative impacts for letting your men die.so that was also in the previous games. Panicking soldiers could be real bitches, especially in a full carrier >_>
for the game itself: i'll see what it is like when it arrives. ranting before feeling the actual gamplay is pointless... kinda
