Xenonauts is a remake/revival of the classic X-com (aka UFO) series by indie developer Goldhawk Interactive. They are well into development and at the moment a 2012 release is quite possible.

Just got back into playing X-com: UFO Defense and it has aged extremely well, still fun to play! I was very excited to come across this and have already thrown my money at them with a pre-order. Would love to see a proper X-com remake.

kept loosing all of my troops though (I was not a strategic player when I was younger) but the game was fun.

Edit: Just played it before is suddenly crashed on me (it's still in Alpha build V8.5 so it happens)
and it feels right at home. Just like I used to play X-com years ago.
The artwork is simply amazing!
and I can't load my last save or it crashes as well :p

Oh I know what you mean. I was young when it came out and loved watching my uncle play it. I could never get very far back then. Even now it's still pretty tough.
In Xenonauts I've only shot down one ufo and did the ground mission. Feels great, they are doing a great job with it and I can't wait to play a finished product.
