Don't know if this belongs here, but it is food related.
After watching Kanon years ago, I wanted to learn how to make nikuman. I learned it, and I can make it. Share your thoughts?

What a fucking stupid thread. If anyone actually answers this with an anime I lose all respect for them and I honestly feel they should jump off a cliff. You cook because it's a necessary skill to have in life not because you watched an anime and decided oh I'll get off my lazy ass and help with something for once instead of just touching myself.

Agreed. Also, how the fuck would an anime inspire people to cook (unless it's a cooking anime, but THERE ARE SO MANY OF THOSE, RIGHT?(sarcasm))?

Kool, a non-negative reply.

thinking about it, I think the first one would have to be ranma 1/2. Ive always attempted to make a decent okonomiyaki but i continue to fail to this day... either I use too much flour or too much egg and it becomes an omelette

Why is this still alive? It should be raped stabbed in the back thrown in a ditch and then have some hobo's piss on it then never be recovered again!

Animes changed the way I shopped. I used to shop once a week now I shop every other day so I can have fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, meat etc.. no more freezing items no more can food (fruits and vegetables).

Cooking Master boy. I remember watching it when I was a kid. And I thought "Wow, I wish I could cook like that and chop things pretty fast like him(I forgot his name, the protagonist)" =3

I browsed over this thread since it sounded interesting and I was surprised in seeing strong negative opinions about it. While I can agree that cooking is a invaluable skill to have, I disagree in saying that being inspired by an anime to take interest on cooking makes it wrong.
While I did learn cooking through observation (watching grandma and mom cooking) and with the mastery of basic skill (cooking/frying eggs and boiling instant noodles and other boilable foods), over 80% of my recipes, skills and techniques came from watching shows in the TV, I changed a cheap instant ramen package after anime ramen, I made okonomiaki after Ranma 1/2, I made those hamburger steaks that often show on many anime, sure I use my own recipe but serve them in the closest way possible, sure I watch cooking shows whenever I can, but anime is a invaluable source too, and if it helps to arouse the curiosity of people to cook then is a good thing.
I took on baking breads after I started reading Yakitate Japan and I still love and hate the manga for it, and since I took a liking of it I am starting to go professional with baking in a baking school. Anime can make people want to learn more about things, I am sure that most people in Fakku want to learn Japanese to read manga or watch anime without subs.
So let's not bash on someone who decided to learn how to cook something by watching an anime, we should praise the fact that anime and can be educational and make people gain invaluable life skills or just teach them how to make some tasty food.

I don't know about being inspired or anything but I found Cooking Master Boy and Yakitake Japan interesting.

I remember it because it's funny.
And yes, Yakitate Japan too!
The bread they make makes me hungry.
Btw, I don't bake.

The moment chiyo in Azumanga Daioh went cooking (first ep I believe) I had the sudden urge to bake a cake myself. '.'

So if watching anime makes you hungry, you are my type of buddies! ^^
Hopefully this topic can let anyone who enjoys cooking at heart share their favorite anime recipe with us (Why only anime recipe, because this isn't a learntobeachief.org site and this is FAKKU community!) Make sure to remember to site where the recipe came from which anime! and Have fun!
So here's my first attempt: Oden!
from xxxHolic, Amagami SS (Ai Nanaki arc) and etc.

Here's "my" version of original recipe. For the real recipe, of course you can always look on the internet, but with the lack of some ingredients I have to improvised a little, so here we go~
1. Hondashi= dry fish powder (Must have! 90% of the ingredients of oden soup, aka. Magic powder~literally~ makes anything taste good)
2. Mirin sauce, makes the tiny sweet taste.
3. Soy sauce
4. White Napa, makes the soup more vegie-flavor
5. Dry Shiitake mushrooms
6. Green onions(diced), again more healthier vegie taste.
7. Eggs (boiled and peeled before putting in with the rest)
8. Daikon (Oriental radish) optional, peeled the skin off before boiling.
9. FINALLY, the MEAT! Yes, and this is where my improvised shined
10. As for the rest of the ingredients~
So, here's how you make it:
So, didn't intentionally to write this long, but hope I did something that will change another person's life in cooking.

Not kidding. Buy this. You can usually find this at an Asian store or just ebay it
Strongly recommended, another Magic sauce in cooking Japanese recipe. Have to buy it again from an Asian store or ebay it, but if not, bits of brown sugar can replace it as well.
Assuming you guys already know about this, skip introduction. (Subtitle reads: Soy sauce leads people)
You can buy this from Wal-Mart!
Not necessary. Also need to buy this from Asian store, but can be replaced with similar-looking mushroom from Wal-Mart, but not this one though
See if you can cook long enough to turn the egg's color into this. Coloring from soy sauce.
Also can't be bought from Wal-Mart but it's ok.
As for the rest, you really do need to buy these meat ingredients from Asian store. Fish balls, fish cakes, fish tofu, etc. Mind you, they are NOT cheap since they are all imported. So if you're poor like me, just stick with fish dicks and chickens.
