Well, a lot of people here, probably aren't going to tell you their MSN. They don't want to be google searched up later. (or have their e-mail recorded by a spambot).
And if your girlfriend searched you up, she'll see that you post on a hentai forum. Then you have to make some clever lies and...
You get the point.

Nah, don't worry about the girlfriend part, its better not to keep such secrets. My girlfriend knows I post on here, shes seen the site. Shes fine with it. Its not like We're on the forums just talking about porn constantly, most of the forum stuff here is just talking about random stuff, entertainment, anime, etc.

I think people tend to underestimate the percent of girls that are interested in porn and/or hentai. Enjoying such things isn't really as confined to genders or types of people as much as everyone thinks.

This probably largely depends on region. In the United States, Minsc has never met a single female that willingly admits to looking at hentai. But finding statistics on this might prove difficult.
Minsc wants to know where your opinion derives from? Facts are very important when considering this- you could be overestimating, rather than everyone else underestimating.

Well yes, it is possible that I overestimate. It may just be the group of women I'm friends with that are out of the norm. However, I think it is more likely that women are just more reserved when it comes to such issues. In a sexuality course I took, we talked at some length about how historically speaking, in the majority of societies women were viewed as being the more sexual sex up until the inquisition (1200's I believe), which led to over several generations the growing repression of women's sexuality in society and a growing idea that men were the more sexual one. I think that mentality carries over to today and women still tend to hide their own sexuality quite a bit.
In that class of about 130 students, the majority were female(as tends to be the case with college in general) and the girls were every bit as 'dirty minded' as the guys. The women I've known certainly wouldn't talk about such things with just anyone, but upon becoming really comfortable/trusting of a person, they had no problems talking about sex toys, porn, etc.
As I've mentioned before, we (typically a group of anywhere from 3 to 10 people, normally all female aside from me, sometimes one or two other guys if it was closer to 10 people total) would all go rent porn at the preferred video store, get some drinks and hang out together. The girls tended to like hentai more often then the normal porn for various reasons. And as I must point out, these were not anime nerds, social rejects, or anything else. They were all intellegent, highly educated very attractive women. Other groups of women that I befriended in the past have also shown themselves to be every bit as sexual.
Really, every woman I've gotten to know has been every bit as sexual as any perverted guy. As for hentai and porn specifically, they have, for the most part, been less likely to get it themselves, but have been in no way really opposed to it.
My initial point was just that people shouldn't be too quick to assume a girl will think poorly of them for being interesting in porn/hentai. It's a common interest and is perfectly normal/healthy, women are typically aware of that.

You have well thought-out opinions, however, we're both just making assumptions, based on culture and society.
One thing raised my alarm:
It looks like this boils down to- how socially acceptable and recognized is hentai- in America?
Overall... my warning was quite appropriate. Why take chances? What if you get a girlfriend years later- who doesn't like hentai, digs up an old post? Someone who finds rape, incest, and lolis offensive, will have enough reason to dump you on the spot.
So my conclusion is.. why take the chance?

Well I suppose it all depends on your relation to the people. I wouldn't consider it something to talk about with just anyone. It also depends on the age group and maturity of the people. The girls I would hang out with are typically in their early twenties, although they are I suppose more mature then many girls of that age that I have also known(has something to do with the education factor perhaps?). And to repeat, they are all girls that I know rather well and have grown comfortable with me. I wouldn't expect a girl to talk about such things with a guy she isn't well acquainted with.
Another thing I should probably address is context of the hentai. This is all under the assumption that such things are in moderation and within relatively private settings. I don't doubt at all that people, men or women, may look down on someone if they are spending huge amounts of their time with porn or if they bring it up in inappropriate settings.

Forgot to mention this. Hentai means "Abnormality" in Japanese.
Do you think it's called that for a reason, or is it a normal part of society?
Minsc did a little searching around to find public opinion- internet(which is usually more perverted than offline opinions), and even female posters have the same opinion as me.
"Hentai isn't for everyone and neither is regular porn, but our society just hasn't accepted hentai like it has porn."
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=60626
Very good summary of public opinion by sailor_moon.
"Is Hentai acceptable ? I don't know. May be yes, may be no. From morality side, of course it is not acceptable. "
http://giovaneric.tripod.com/articles.html
Wish there was a poll or study conducted on this. However, going to go with my original assumption, and say most people DO find things like "incest" very very offensive. But this is a pointless argument, if you say people you know accept hentai for what it is... there is little to prove it wrong. However, it's bad taste to say someone else is being stereotypical when giving head's up of public opinion.

I was referring to hentai in general, not any specific types and I in no way disagree with you that some types of it will be poorly thought of by the majority of people.
Regarding the quote "Hentai isn't for everyone and neither is regular porn, but our society just hasn't accepted hentai like it has porn." I also agree, not everyone likes porn, not everyone likes hentai. The idea I was trying to illustrate is that women are are generally as likely to accept it or at least close to as likely. I think the reason hentai is viewed differently from regular porn is just because of a long standing cultural idea that cartoons are for children and hentai is typically viewed as simply cartoon porn.
"However, it's bad taste to say someone else is being stereotypical when giving head's up of public opinion."
I'm not sure what that part is addressing. If it is regarding what I've said as a whole then I must clarify myself. I have in intention of saying anyone is being stereotypical, only that I think (as in this is solely my opinion from personal experience and I am in no way trying to claim it as an indisputable fact) that people are generally unaware of the extent to which women view hentai and/or pornography as normal/abnormal, acceptable/unacceptable or good/bad.
edit- either way that was a good discussion. We probably should of gone to the serious discussion though rather then going so very off topic. My apologies to Skyler998 for going so far off from his original post.

Never mind me about tht lurking but i can't help to notice but, since men like me can openly admit tht i like hentai why girls can't?
2)About the females here in malaysia chinese, normally from wat i had dug up from them is tht the girls tend to watch porn discreetly as possible although some are comfortable admitting it, and when i asked them opinion about hentais thy just simply burst off, or strat teasing me as if i was a kid and i mean 0% here with any female i encountered before here in malaysia, not even a female is into hentai not even the sligthest bit, the general idead i got from them is tht anything to do about anime is just either is kids stuff or something to watch just to kill time not a single girl i met here took anime seriously let alone hentai. Therefore i claim tht is unfair to anime in my country and i simply detest tht.
3) To make things worse eventhough my country's president Datuk Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he would support anime in my country but wat i found out is there is no such things happend instead is banning many anime stuffs over seas (such as anime games like busou renkin tht was released on july this year on ps2 platform) and because anime still has a small plc in malaysia is becuz otakus like me here is holding the front line by supporting it anyway we can and money, which is smuggling to rake in our money eventhough we have to endure the quality problem.
4) the trouble above is shown when every time i go to an anime carnival i always see the same friends all over again and never new faces.
5) Also other than girls there are also some male tht even involve anime in their life (like renting manga) is just to hitch a ride in the anime wave tht is never ending supported by us otakus, tht i dun mind but wat i really piss off is tht they dare to compare their opinion with us eventhough we understand it more than they even could imagine and later tht tell me to go and study or strat teasing me or insulting anime in front of my face.(ah later i also punch tht guy up resulting he hv a broken nose, he was quite handsome and popular among girls but i doubt tht now and eventhough i got a warnin letter for brutality from my college but i still fell happy tht i punched him, right now his nose is 45 degres off from the bottom, i totally wrecked his reputaion and face)

Hmm, thats some interesting stuff. Anime in the US has been getting increasingly popular in the past 5 or 10 years and has gotten to be fairly well accepted, although a lot of people don't really get that it has a wide range of target audiences rather then just being for little kids. Although that is partially due to the way it is dubbed for tv here, it often involves a lot of rewrites and censorship which make even more adult shows target a younger audience. There have been several anime shows brought over for awhile, its just that the american audience never knew they were originally japanese (ex. speed racer, voltron, etc.)
As for the part where you busted the guys nose, I can't say I'd get that worked up over it. The way I look at it, anime is just another form of entertainment, same as cartoons from other countries, shows with live actors, etc.. Like anything else, anime has its own set of repeated themes, styles, and target audiences. It's only natural that people will disagree about it, but theres no sense in getting worked up. It's stupid of someone to insult someone over their taste in entertainment but its not any better to get mad about some jack ass's trivial insults.
As for the girls there being completely opposed to hentai, I guess it just goes along with the society's general attitude towards anime.

This argument did go a bit overboard for the topic. Minsc had been up very late, but is now fully rested. The only thing Minsc was concerned about, was that your opinion seemed objective, which could possibly lead people into thinking, they can freely admit and talk about hentai, outside of the hentai community, without high probability of being judged.
We strayed quite a bit...The argument shouldn't be "How many girls are interested in hentai?" but whether "How many girls outside the hentai community will accept you for it's content?"

The initial comment that sparked it all was referring to girlfriends finding out someone is on a site such as fakku. I was trying to say it isn't that bad for your girlfriend to know you look at hentai. The discussion just kinda snowballed into women in general, but wasn't about talking to any girl you know about it.
