Best tasting stuff evar.
I love the melon mochi. 8)
As far as daifuku goes, I like mine sprinkled with sesame seeds.
I have yet to expand on them.

How does it taste like?
Those kinda remind me of dunkin donuts munchkins and chinese buchi.
(both which I love to eat very much) :D

It tastes very good, it's just a glutinous rice cake filled with a sweet filling inside. I like mine filled with red bean paste. 8)

It's just rice flour, sugar, and water for the "dough".
Filling is sweet red bean paste.
But, yeah...it's damn good. My family makes it from scratch sometimes. Sometimes we just buy the little packets. Usually find it in a Japanese grocery store. Sometimes Chinese stores have them.

We get the assorted packs.
Also, the ones stuffed with ice cream are great during the summer.

1 cup glutinous rice flour
1/4 cup sugar
2/3 cup water
Mix those together. Put in microwave safe bowl. Heat 2 mins. Stir. Heat again until dough inflates.
Cut them into bite size pieces and dust with potato starch.
The red beans are hard to find if you don't have a Japanese grocery store. So you can just eat these plain. Or you can sprinkle shredded coconuts on it or whatever.

Drools, mochi. Haven't got much range where I am, but the sesame and red bean is nice. Same with peanut butter filling lol.

I used to make daifuku mochi a lot a while back. I prefer steaming mine, but forgot to bring my steamer when I moved so now I cannot :(
