Windows 8

Yes, the first version of Windows 8 is already in the net.
I think they should focus first on 7, but again a new system?
What do you think about that? Discuss.

I was reading a preview of this operating system, and I am very glad they are planning to support disk image (namely iso) mounting right out of the box. It's just nice to know in the future, on fresh builds, I may be able to skip having to install daemon tools / alcohol to perform that task. Conceptually, it's promising (just as long as they don't lose the core fundamentals that make windows 7 so great).

Whoa a new OS in the making already? Didn't 7 come out last year or something? Two or so years ago. It would appear that Microsoft learned the wrong lesson from Vista and 7. Vista was a train wreck, hence the need to get 7 out as quick as they did.

The current Win8 is just Win7 with a few extra lines of code from what I've heard. That is what Windows 7 is to Vista. Again, another way Microsoft is misinterpreting the "success" of 7. Vista needed to be fixed, hence the need to rush 7 which "fixed vista" and they changed the appearance slightly to make people less leery about it. You'd think that they'd actually wait four or five years and try to make some major improvements to the OS and better yet, how it runs. Surely they can come up with a way to make an OS that's capable of running well at a bare-bones level and operate fine with 2GB (or maybe even 1GB) of RAM, but can really shine when you have 3+ GB of RAM and a decent graphics card.

Too bad there is no more extended support for it.
Besides, hardcore people still rock 2k pro.
Just sayin'

They would have to be more stupid or stuck with old incompatible programs, rather than hardcore... Usage-wise and stability wise I still think windows 2000 was their best OS to date, but at lass, it is now completely outdated. I would find it irresponsible to run windows 2000 on any PC connected to the web.
I think the biggest problems with the newer versions of windows (besides my personal hate for the new UI..) is that they need so much more resources and HHD space on your computer

Sheesh, do they never learn? I still have an ancient unit that is equipped only with an old Pentium 4 single core CPU, no GPU, 256mb of RAM (Maxed out), a 15Gb HDD that weighs as much as a cinder-block, a floppy drive, and old cd-only disc drive. And it's still rockin' good old Windows 95 baby! When the machines take over and all this newfangled computer technology goes kaput, I'll be ready with something so old and outdated those metal fuckers won't know what to do with it! Of course I'm not actually using that old piece of junk, that'd be insane. It's just in storage atm. Still, I miss playing ski-free on that old bugger.......VIVA LA 95!!!!

I really wish they could release a version for the technologically challenged, then release a version for the more advanced user. But it is nice to see they are making Windows a little more powerful like Linux with the ability to mount isos out of the box.

Nah, windows 8 will come out some other time, right now its just windows 7. The release candidate for windows 8 would take more time thought.

I hope the release candidate looks more promising and adds more support for older applications. Also Samba and NIFS support would be good. (i know it exists but have it in the nice wizard style that windows is known for)

It will have been three years between OS' by the time it comes out; Snow Leopard to whatever the new one is will be less than two.
Looks lovely for touchscreen PCs, but I don't fancy investing in a giant Windows Phone just yet. And apps, like the damn sidebar, are a useless USP on a desktop where you already have quick access to a full browser.

QFT who uses that sidebar anyway?
3 years tbh is the usual ammount of time for update. so provided they do this right (and don't accidently vista all over my shit) then all is well.
Iso mounting out of the box is pretty cool and all that but i'd like to see more of an advancement than that from 7.
