Log Horizon Survey

Mamare Touno wrote...
â—†The world of “Elder Tale” has landform of which shape based on the “Half-Gaia project”. The aims of the project is to duplicate the half-size earth landform on the MMO-RPG “Elder Tale”.

The world is divided into 13 areas and each areas are managed by regional operating company. These company release stories and visuals with different design concept. By the reason, all areas in the world have unique monsters and dungeons.

This description is also applied to name and appearance of 12 “Main Class”.
Regional operating company re-designed 1-3 class from 12 “Main Class” to some special “Localized Class” to establish a local area’s uniqueness.
These re-design mainly change background and graphics and slightly change its performance by unique equipments setting in rare case.

However, such performance variation are supervised by the Atharva corporation, that is the main developer of the Elder Tale, to keep a balance of combat performance with caution.

This time around, I invite Log horizon fans all over the world to offer their opinions about setting of the “Localized Class” on any region of the world ! You can send your idea by form of simple questionnaire. Please join us on this occasion.

Please be forewarned that your posted idea can be adopted as a main story setting officially.

This occasion has two stages. First stage, questionnaire form is available by Feb.10. Second stage, put out some promising ideas and request for comments to decide which “Localized class” settings are adopted finally.

p.s.

Write the name of your “Localized Class means what is your character's in game name?

It's basically like creating a character sheet in a role play thread.

Pretty much. The author may try to add other countries to the story. He has been seen on /a/ of 4-chan already asking for ideas.

No, just creating a local class.

In example, In the Japanese Server they have the Samurai and Kannagi, where as in other foreign servers the Kannagi is just called a Medium.

This difference offers different options for that class, one example is the Kannagi may wear Traditional Japanese-style clothing.

The North American counterpart for a Samurai is unknown PIRATES

It's Sword Art Online without the consistency or the interesting world. But it does have deus ex machina skills that come the fuck out of nowhere and solve every issue.

Add, in the Europe Server they're Highlanders

America wouldn't have one since our establishment was far after gun powder became more valuable than swords. Maybe some sort of warrior from when the native Americans were the dominant presence. That would be pretty interesting imo.

And wouldn't the European equivalent to a Samurai be a Knight?

Another Edit.

This game already has a Pirate class...Swashbuckler.

Didn't watch SAO (or Log Horizon), but my brother said Yui was essentially deus ex machina in character form.

Lol, SAO is way more inconsistent *cough*willpower*cough*

Watch episode 11 to 15, that's where Touno Mamare starts explaining the world of Elder Tale.

Well Pirates is the official Class from the Light Novel, and I don't think that they're aiming for accuracy, but more of what is more notable.

I think a Knight is too "general" of a name, because there's also the "Guardian" class, which is very Knight-like in every sense.

The Samurai Class (Pirate/Highlander) is the games major DPS Class for weapon based class. While the Guardian is the Main Tanker and has more defensive skills, which more people have suggested Paladin or Templar Knight as a Localized Class.

In episodes 1-14, she isn't really. In 15-24, Yes she is - And she's annoying as hell because of it.
If you do watch SAO, just watch 1 to 14

Yeah the general consensus I've heard is 1st half is good and the 2nd half is bad.

A lot of these classes are pretty general now that I look at them.

Very few of them translate well into classes or positions in other cultures. There's going to be lots of cross over, so I think it's best not to change the class name, but change armor and weapons for a lot of the classes rather than renaming them. Or maybe just make new classes for other nations/lands/whatever.

For Murica I was thinking something like a Shaman could be a Kannagi equivalent, but they also work as a Summoner and a cleric.

Let's get real, with animes like these, they is ALWAYS gonna be an unexplained skill that comes out of nowhere and saves the day.

But Touno himself made that a non-issue with the players discovering they can make something completely new that wasn't there in the game. And this is only limited to their imaginations and the physics of the world.
One example is with the Crafting sub-class in episode 10 where they can actually make a steam engine which doesn't exists in Elder Tale previously. and in Episode 14 he even explained "The Apocalypse" (the event where 30.000 Japanese players was trapped into the game) from the perspective of an NPC.
