I agree on that part as well, unless they actually meet...I guess that would be the starting point of a relationship to me.

I would say yes.
I had a friend I met online when we were both 12-13.
We called each other, sent letters back and forth since then. I saw we're pretty good friends. Neither of us had a chamce to visit each other though.

I almost met another person online when I moved away for a little while, we quickly became good friends as well, still friends with her actually.

I think I make friends easily, once I try, doesn't really matter to me where I met them.

Awwww. <3

But yeah, it really does depends from person to person. I, for one, consider a lot of my Fakku friends to be real friends, ones whom I would trust almost everything with, as naive as that may seem.

As for Facebook...well, I never add someone I've never known personally or at least talked to for some time.

Psht. You're always gonna be my Onii-chan. :3

I'd say so. Just as much as real friends, sometimes.

HOWEVER, online friends (in my experience) take a lot longer time to get to know. And to trust.
Still, I have (and continue to have) many good friendships forged from online starts over the years. :)

Sort of. Online friendship can die quite quickly if either of you are inactive.

It'd be cool if you could meet them in real life. Friendship and bonds grow strong that way.

Ima say yes, i got a online friend i talk to more than i do half my friends and play games with, etc.

Well I guess yes to a certain extent.

I guess it's also about how you categorise friends. Do you have a hierarchy where some are close friends, some are more distant? Do you have categorisations where some are friends for games, friends for social gatherings, friends with benefits?

I will call an online friend a "friend" but I wouldn't really trust them all that much since you really never know who is behind that screen (a 20 year old petite beauty may be in real life a 56 year old obese man).

I'm going to have to say yes, and no. Everyone of my E-Friend's I've met at least one time in person, or had a multitude of live feed video chats with. But only a handful are close enough for me to even consider calling them friends. It's all in prospective, of A friend will bail you out of Jail a true friend will be sitting there with you.

I had a friend while playing Ragnarok some years ago. We continued to be friends even after we stopped playing.
We kinda met during college after years of just talking on the net.
We're like brothers now xD

That's 100% how my friendship started with the friend I mentioned who goes by the name Tyaeth :)

lol! Interwebs bringing people together. Strings of Fate.

OT: Internet people tend to have this 'Persona'. It's kind of rare to find a 'true' friend online.

Trust comes into play here, never really know someone until you meet and get to know them face to face. Could say they're your friends, but imo they'd be more along the lines of acquaintances.

I'm gonna say yes to this but in my book they're not actual friends till I meet them or at least have a video chat with them. Sometimes I'll even trust em enough to give them my phone number at least.

Of course, though some relationships can change with time from stronger/closer to more distant, there's still a select handful of Fakkers that I'm pretty close with and talk to decently often.
Even to the point where I've exchanged presents and letters through the mail with a few.

I don't know...
A person may like someone they meet online but i wonder if that other person would feel the same way too.

Of course. I've known some of my online friends for at least 5 years.

It all depends on how you define the term "friend."

I have many online friends.

But I only trust completely a handful of them.
