Djent and similar progressive bands (UPDATED)

I searched for the djent genre in general, and nothing came up. I've seen some bands mentioned a couple of times, but that's it. So, I thought I'd start up Fakku's first ever djent thread.

Meaning: Djent, in its original meaning, is simply a short, metallic, palm-muted sound made by an electric guitar using mid to high range gain. The guitars often have a very prominent midrange tone and the bass guitar usually has a distorted tone focused towards the low frequencies. (From Wikipedia)

Bands: Periphery, TesseracT, Cloudkicker, David Maxim Micic, Chimp Spanner, Vildhjarta, etc. As the thread title has 'similar' in it, Meshuggah will be accepted into this thread, even though they are not technically considered 'djent'.

Interestingly enough, that's the song I suggested listening to while reading Noblesse. XD

I suggest slowly starting with this genre. Download Cloudkicker's The Discovery first. That should be enough for now. It available for free download at his site.

Yeah, being the creator of the thread, I'd know a bit more, but I owe it to Ichi for bringing it off the ground.

If you read the first post in the topic, you'll notice more bands with similar sounds, but like what I said to Ichi, I recommend starting with Cloudkicker. Since you liked Periphery, you might like this as well:

That's the spirit! Go! Spread the word of djent across Fakku! :D

You might also want to give this idiot a try. The video is just a sampling of how crazy he is, but the songs you'll want are in the Bilo EP.

Wouldn't call it hardcore djent, but the thread does say "and similar progressive bands", so why not? Join the party!

I'll update with some more songs later.

I've actually been getting into Meshuggah again recently. Not all of their music I like, but I still definitely enjoy a lot of it. Especially the Nothing album. I mention Meshuggah because, like just about all Djent, it's full of DUN DUDUN DUDUN DUDUDUDUUN DUNDUUNNNNNNNN. You know what I mean.

Spoiler:

As for Periphery, the main album is great, though I usually stick to the instrumental version. The instruments speak a different voice that the singer can't, and I just like it more I guess. Im into their demos more than anything, though. Misha could easily make like 5 albums off of his demos.

Spoiler:

On a slightly related note, Im going to be seeing Animals As Leaders August 1st (my first concert :D). Misha has a role in their album as the drum track composer, so it's definitely got some of his influence in the music, though it's a bit more jazzy than anything since Tosin is the leadman.

UPDATE: Here's some more for your taste buds! This time, we have who I call the "Djester of Djent", David Maxim Micic. His debut EP, Bilo is available for free download. I'll see if I can scrounge up the links. But for now,

Sure, why not? They ARE considered the fathers of djent, even though they aren't. And this thread IS called Djent AND SIMILAR PROGRESSIVE BANDS.

Join the party!

BUMP!

Here's a combination I'm certain will delight your musical taste buds. Make sure to play the second song IMMEDIATELY after the first ends, for added effect. Remember: for Clloudkicker songs to work properly, they need to work in an ambient, atmospheric way. Just let the song play in the background, experience the effects, and let your mind flow into a magical journey...of discovery...

Cloudkicker - The Discovery

Cloudkicker - Covington

BONUS: Here's Cloudkicker's (real name Ben Sharp) newest track. It may not be djent, or progressive in any way, but seeing as how it's by him, I thought it deserved a mention here.

Cloudkicker - It's inside me, and I'm inside it
