Subs or dubs?

I say sub and dub both have their pros and cons, not just on anime but on movie as well. Dub is only good when the voice actor and translator know what they are doing and keep the meaning of the dialogue as close as possible since some foreign languages have a deeper meaning in their wording. If done right, the dub verison is as good as the original. One that comes to my mind is Neighborhood Totoro and Spirit Away. Or The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is to me, better than the original language.

As for sub, they are sometimes annoying read and even an ammature could make one. You always need to do your research to find the best one or hope for your favorite fansub to sub it. And remember, the translator for the fansub are not someone who have a bachelor degree in japanese so even the best fansub can mess up.

So, really it is ups and downs. If it is backed by a corporation like Spirit Away is dubbed and distributed by Disney, then you know the dub verison is good. If it is ADV, Fanimation, or etc, then I go with sub.

I can only say subs because its what I'm most used to. Usually, the one you see the first time is the one that sets the standard. I frequently watch anime before it is released overseas so almost the entirety of my anime experience is subs.

Not to say I would or wouldn't prefer dub. They have their merits, especially when they have great VA. For instance, I can watch anime while playing Crystal Saga or something and not even watch the anime, I can't do that with subs. I don't particularly care what seiryuu does the moonspeaking, but it matters to me when its my native language, which I guess is the reason why we are so critical of our own VA.

In favor of dubs is the infamous Bible Black. It sounds terrible as all hell but its tear inducing hilarious! Much better to watch with friends or at a convention. Subs just don't have as much affect as hearing "WHAT A WONDERFUL BITCH!!"

I'll watch it in Subs first to understand whats really going on. Then in Dub form to see some of the visual aspects I would miss reading the Subs the first time. So both for me.

Subs, though sometimes even dubs are well done.

Subs will it be for me always. Never liked Anime or Hentai with dubs.

A good dub can help me convince my friends to actually sit down and try a show, so I definitely appreciate it. Most of the time I watch subs though.

Subs forever! I don't mind some dubs though but most, in my opinion, are horrible.

Hardcore subber here. Done my piece of subbing back in old days. :)

Dubs, a personal preference IS a personal preference after all.

Subs is the way to go (although often well done, dubs aren't as funny as in the original version)!

Subs is the way to go. Some dubs are acceptable. Mainly late 90's anime dubs.

Subs all the way. I just prefer the voices of the original actors. Plus, if dubbed most of the original meanings are LIT(Lost In Translation). Although Subs have the same problem, they can insert explanation text for certain jokes and stuff so the effects are diluted or lessened.

In conclusion, Subs are better than dubs.

Just as an added note, some dubs are good. I'm not denying dubs just that subs are better than dubs imo.

I'd have to say subs. I like to hear the original voices. If I can watch American TV series in English, I can watch anime in Japanese as well. Both are foreign languages for me, anyway.

Subs, except for DBZ which i watched dubbed, Goku's voice was terrible.

I usually prefer Subs cuz it keeps originality (and sometimes for the jokes and puns), but if I have no other choice, I can watch dubs too

I go with subs coz majority with dubs is there fucking voices are so fucking small that you can't hear them......

Subs and only subs. I just can't stand dubbing in other language than japanese. It hurts my ears. Plus, if there are some mistakes in translation I can check it with original source since I know it a bit.

Subs FTW mate!
I hate dubs, they're not really feeling it.
And it's not as funny as subs.
