[color=#993300]I like the Shang Dynasty and the Meiji Restoration period. The reign of Peter the Great in Russia was also very nice. The Byzantine empire is one of my top favorites as well. I'm not really picky

Shang Dynasty? Why though? Not as much written about this era compared to other periods. My favourite era should be the Spring and Autumn / Warring States era that begun 600 years after the end of the Shang era. Followed closely by China in the 80s to the present and the Manchu Empire (better known as the Qing Dynasty)

I'm a big fan of the 1700's. The golden age of Piracy and the beginnings of the revolution in America. God damn if it isn't somewhat poetic.

Meiji Era, Japan. I absolutely love stories and history revolving around that time because it is so interesting.

I also have a soft spot for classic America(minus the racism).

Well aside from the deaths of course but yea WWII had some many undiscover secrets it's just a shame that we cannot get to them all.

I like the war on drugs that is currently ongoing in america - The police AND the criminals BOTH profit. +government also.

Also we have so many stupid people that someone with modest intellect like myself can feel superior.

Post WW2 era, before the information age.

To live ?
Hard to say. Maybe the end of the 1990's and its particular brand new millenum eve ambience/taste -- you won't see that anymore...

To learn about or dream about ?
It depends my momentary mood. Presently the industrial era is interesting and there's more and more steampunk and alike stuffs all over the arts. There were so many discoveries and inventions which have greatly influenced sciences and common life. This was also the begining of the end of slavery. There're also bad stuff, but which period would be "prefect" ?...

The time of the Swedish empire's pretty interesting.

The Scanian War, the Thirty Years' War and the Great Northern War. Gustavus Adolphus, Carolus Rex, etc.

Probably during Alexander The Great's conquests, it would be cool to see his battle strategies in person.

Can I say the distant future?
Well, I suppose not since you specified history, so I'll go with Ancient Greece.

I'd like to go back to the French Revolution because a few of my ancestors were a part of it and it would be interesting to see one of the first major uprisings of democracy in Europe.

I use to be a big Sengoku period nerd, but it's so over done in anime and manga, that it got to the point where I begun to resent it a bit.

I'm also fascinated by the beginning of the "Information Age" and the Industrial revolution.

I have a three way tie for my favorite time period(s):
WWII, the 80s, and now. But the present is also kinda shitty in it's own way...
So make of that what you will.
Honorable mention goes to the Cold War though, what with all the spy fiction it spawned.
