Built my baby with my own two hands. Saved up an entire month's salary to pay for it too, totally worth it. If you want a high-end computer and you're not too scared to get your hands dirty, I'd say this is the way to go for you. You'll save A LOT of money compared to buying a brand name computer.

EDIT: I know it sounds like I contradicted myself by saying it's cheap and saving a whole month's salary. To clarify, I saved an entire month's salary to be able to buy the most high end computer available, but you could build an Alienware level PC for nearly half the price if you buy all the parts separately.

Built it myself and will continue to do so because it's fun, better, cheaper, etc.

Too lazy to build my own, but I know a dude who can build me one if I need it. I don't really see any need to build a computer myself when I don't play any games that's been released after 2005 on it, so my current lappy works just fine for now.

If I'd had the time in highschool, I would have built it myself.

As it is, I have the lovely folks at Puget Systems to thank for their excellent skills. It even came in custom-shipping packaging to minimize damage. (Cost me just over 2k, but I don't foresee needing to upgrade it for a LONG time, and when I do, I'll do it with parts I buy.)
Windows 7
16 GB 1333Mhz RAM
2 GB HD AMD Radeon 6970 (now discontinued)
2 TB HDD (internal)
Asus (something-or-other) MOBO
Bluray DVD Burner/Reader
40-in-5 digital card reader (SD, mini-SD, micro-SD, SDHC, SDXC, etc.)

And the thing kicks balls at games. (Although I originally got it for CADD software, which I still use it for.)

Nvidia GTX 670
Intel i5 3570K OC @ 4.4Ghz
8 GB DDR3 RAM
3250 GB of total capacity. (2TB internal HD, 1 TB external HD and 250 SDD)

I mainly use my machine for browsing, visual novels and music while occasionally playing a game on Steam, don't even ask. I guess I just like to be prepared in case something fun comes out such as the upcoming Bioshock Infinite, Crysis 3 or Tomb Raider.

Built it myself and continue to upgrade it. Had it for 7 years now, still better than anything you can get in store or online. :-P

Never had one of my own, just using the ones at work, which are bought pre-built as usual.

I currently have a store bought Acer desktop that I popped a new PSU and Video Card into. I plan on building a High-End PC after saving up a few months pay.

>Placed costum-order
Looked up the components with the best price-value % and ordered everything.
Computer store clerk built it, installed Windows, starter drivers and some other useful programs.
Only thing I had to do when it arrived to my home, was to install a proper net client and I could fully use it.

Nabbed an older Dell M6400 mobile workstation that was being auctioned off because of a motherboard error which doesn't allow it to be charged with a battery. Got it for 300 dollars and a charger so it's kinda've like a mobile desktop at this point.

It came with a X9300 Quad core extreme and a Nvidia FX 3700m. Upgraded it with an Samsung 840 SSD, a Seagate Hybrid Momentus XT 750gig, and 16 gigs of RAM. For a 4-6+ year old machine, it does it's job wonderfully well. Now, just gotta figure out that motherboard level error.

I only have a laptop. I want to go out and make my own PC but those random GTX109329 something something letters/numbers confuse me.

The life of a Laptop user is suffering.

Wish I had the money and the space to get a Custom Built PC. But alas, I am but a Laptopfag.
