Also it's not like anything actually bad is going to happen if less people fall in love with other people as long as someone is remembering to breed. At this point it should be good to note my approval of cloning from the cloning thread.

We don't need more fucking humans. Hoo mamma, we're already overpopulated and just haven't noticed.

I just meant we need to not forget to keep humanity around not that we need to increase our numbers.

Not that we'll need to think about that for a very long time.

Well, I'm not totally against the idea, however, it does seem that it would bring up some serious issues. For one thing, the socially inept will jump all over it, leading to a further distancing from reality. In all reality it's no replacement for human interaction. While human relationships do tend to be messy, and painful. They should be cherished, I mean, I hate most of my ex's (the feelings mutual, trust me), but I wouldn't trade these experiences for the world. So, in conclusion, I don't think it's a totally bad thing for people that have a good grip on reality, but some people shouldn't do it (namely those individuals that have a really hard time distinguishing reality from fantasy).

Wait, I take that back, has any of you guys seen GITS: SAC? I don't remember if it was the first or second season, but it was the episode of the dood with the android who killed off all the other androids with a virus so that it was only him and his android because he was in love with his android? Yeah, could be messy.

Candy Girls.

Ziggy said everything I was going to say. On how, guys would probably prefer these perfect real dolls to real girls [Basically like Yumi from Chobits thought human girls can't compare to robot girls/real dolls who are perfect body wise and mentally better also].

Though, I do like the idea of a "Real Doll" friend. It'd be nice if I could program a doll to make conversation[s] with me that I'd enjoy and make them so they won't annoy the hell out of me every five seconds.

One good thing that would come out of this is, if they could make a Real Doll guardians ~ which will take care of young kids while they're outside / alone. This could reduce kidnappings, rapes, etc by a lot. I wouldn't mind paying for a robot who keeps my children safe.

When I first read the subject title, I automatically thought of 'realdolls'
The major problem with artifical love is the fact that men get crazy fantasies, sometimes ones that you just can't get in real life. If you can get an artificial girl to make up for what real girls lack - there's going to be issues.

Like the fact that guys would prefer fake girls to real girls. Sure the population could use some dieing down, but I'd feel sorry for myself. lol Like Yumi in Chobits.

Also you can't make up the loss of what a real woman has that an artificial one doesn't. Aritifical girls wouldn't have hearts and have the natural urge to comfort you when you're upset. They aren't warm, and aren't kind without being programmed to.

You can't have a family with them, and they make it difficult for your social life. You can't take her out to a bar with your friends to have a beer to say the least.

If one of my friends got one of them, I'd be a bit concerned. Okay, maybe first I'd want to see what she could do, lol, THEN I'd get a bit jealous and wonder why my friend felt the need to resort to something like that.

yup i think u said it best :o

Personally, I have mixed feelings.

If a "real Doll" or something similar to chi ever happened. I would probably be one of those guys who would fall in love with a machine. As much as I hate to admit it but, its honestly how I think I would react. It would be too easy for my unrealistic fantasies to come true. Having one of those "dolls" be in the form of Hinata Hyuuga and even acting like her would have the worse possible effect on me. Though on the other hand it doesn't bother me to must in the area of not having children because I don't really care one way or another about having children. If I find someone who doesn't want them it would be like loving one of those dolls.

As for talking with dolls, I couldn't really care for that. Everyone converse with themself on some plane, atleast everyone sane.

Now highly Artificial-intellectual robots is another thing. What would a real relationship be, and why would a relation with an AI be false?
One gotta remind oneself that humans are also "programmed". The orgin of our instincts and knowledge may differ from a robots, but that's also partly true between humans.
Also, the purpose for human relations... comfort, knowledge, what more? Can't robots fulfill these roles?

And I can imagine that we already know how to reprogram humans by the time we can create such robots, so it's not like we could abuse our powers as creators over the robots more than we can abuse other humans.

well i would find it pretty weird unless they were fully animated and looked like the ones off chobits and had there own conciousness

@ Kais86:
You'd have to think though, would it really get freaks off the streets? I don't think it would solve any sort of creep problems just because of the cost of something like this. I'd imagine that if they made a doll that could really emulate a human, they'd be awfully expensive. Yes, it does help some people fulfill some fantasies that they couldn't carry out otherwise but that's only if they have the money. It seemed like the people I saw in the documentary didn't have their priorities set like most other people. They spent tons of money on the dolls but not on themselves.

@ Hibia:
Oh, my bad.
Being technosexual is having a strong love for gadgets and technology and such. It's not used specifically for things like computer girlfriends but covers it in the definition.

@ EVERYONE:
A couple of the posts mentioned that if the dolls came as certain anime characters, they'd express more interest in them. I think that if they did come as certain anime characters, the marketability (?) would go up. There are anime-girl breast pillows and there are people who buy them. I just think that the lonely otaku would much prefer something like an anime realdoll over some tiny PVC figures. Thoughts?

@Milk-chan:
Having machines like that would, given that it is a fairly hypothetical situation, the logic behind what I said is that what is a freak going to do? They have a few options A) Save up money for one of these things B) Use that money for a real woman who will probably tell them "No" anyhow C) Gain an advantage over a woman do what they want with the woman and be on the run for the rest of their lives, and if they get caught they can go to jail and face prisoners (who hate sexual deviants enough to do horrible things to them) or D) steal one and don't deal with any of the other problems other than possibly going to jail(prisoners are more likely to leave you alone if you stole a sex-bot instead of raping someone). Admittedly this is also assuming the freak in question is psychologically stable enough to think of doing this. By virtue of the fact that they have another outlet for their sexual deviation it will get them off of the streets.

I've seen that. It was pretty good.

I by myself would get one only if shaped and programed to be like my favorite anime girl, not much for the sex, if I could get one I would be quite happy with it as any anime fan would be, can't deny the dirty thoughts raised by that oportunity, I am pretty sure that everyone here thought at least once about how it should be your life with your favorite anime girl. And if she can be programed to do household chores then I would get one for sure. Chores are a pain but with a cute assistant would be a much better thing to do. Not too sure about the love, but I know that I would love her, maybe not as a lover but there are different types of love.

I approve of this action in the form of saying:
HELL NO.
What the hell. Really, I would kind it somewhat freaky to
1. Sleep with a doll
2. Cum in the doll
3. Look like a doll
4. Wake up to a doll

Now, if it was an android, really, I'd be fine if it were shaped and modeled in certain ways(hm, anime). But heres the problem(s).

1. Does it feel real, first of all.
2. Do I have to recharge it's batteries?
3. Or upgrade the software version?
4. Will it have oil spills?
5. Is it waterproof?
6. Is it able to get semen in it and out conveniently?
7. Does it make whirring noises? Cuz that could be annoying.
8. Oh God, big one, how much does it weigh? I'd hate to be fucking it, and then get trapped under. Then the neighbors come in :(

But seriously, my opinion is that anyone should do what they want. I'm not a supporter of religion, so I could care less about the morality of it.
I sure as hell will stick with real women, but, hey, some people like it with robots I guess.

With the way technology is now and what's out there yet to come this may become socially acceptable. though I would rather die a lonely old man hat jerks off 50 time a day than buy a blow up doll I say more power to you if you ant to.

As likely and unavoidable as this kind of thing will likely be in the future, I think it's a good idea anyways. Yes of course there is the arguement that we'll doom ourselves to not procreating enough because we'll all be off shagging artificial women, but consider this. For those poor unfortunate souls out there who are ugly, deformed or just plain unlucky, if they can get a real girl then good for them, but all the while the rest go without that feeling of love that I'm sure we all crave once in a while. Yeah it wont be real, but it'll hopefully give the illusion of the biological urges that's desired.

Yeah, and it serves all those people who are conservative when it comes to sexuality right when they can't have some Human 2.0!

Society is shaped in small steps. As more information comes we have the option to make them faster but they're still small.

When attacking a question of social bias I seem to notice we like to put restrictions on things. Relax your head a little and then without those restrictions you realize it's just about morality and you have to be careful about that. Your thoughts won't be as much of a pivotal force when it's two generations down the line. Morality changes.

Let's start off first by making it a toy. It's cheap, easily accessible, and made for children. Technology moves in fast steps because we want it to. If I could have a transformer that walks, talks, and transforms with me just "mimicing" a battle scene as if it was actually the pro/antagonist depending on the model, heck I'd pay $5-30 for it.

Now with that type of programming behind it it doesn't take long for APIs to catch up in making easily made logic lines. That means massive amounts of user content if it's adaptable and flexible enough to make things happen with relative ease over a small amount of time.

Now I know we're all thinking but that's just a toy. Well, considering how much effort fans put into resin figures, life and 6" replica alike, and the amount of skill. With a little shift in material a hollowed out flexible polycarbonate on par with user friendly systems like Mattel plastic molding makes custom work a snap.

Next, think Dojins and Dojinsoft. We have a lot of very smart people putting a few hundred man hours in group or in single making nice games with barely nothing but a few APIs from DX or OpenGl. On par with publicly funded games that get published. Purely on fan will alone, sure it's no Halo, but independent films...independent software. And we all come over to this site for fan made publications that are as good or better than a lot of the publications they're based on, maybe not in story, but in dedication to form. ...very dedicated to form and stylization. Very few mainstream artists put that much work into getting form close to home since it implies exactly what we come here for.

So with this in mind, think about your kid or grandkid growing up with a toy that you only would dream of having in terms of interactivity. It's normal to them to have high end interaction and return response from the toys. As they grow up it's not unnatural to speak and interact with the toys as a tool or as a friend. I know as my pcs have become less and less hassle to keep running it feels less like a machine and more like an able helper but comes up with enough errors to keep me grounded.

------ (Digression)Maybe not sentient, but I don't want a sentient pc...or a speaking one... a complex macro that does as I say once I say it is fine. Especially if it does all the work before I say it, then there's no wait but I don't want it implied that it KNOWS or DOES anything before I command for it. But that's a matter of form... (END of Digression)-------

So what kind of a jump would it take from having a couple friends over with a helping tool that acts, laughs, and spends time with you, to treating it more like you do everything and everybody that brings good times. So it's not a question of whether I or you would see it as something we could do. We've been in near the bottom of the pc realm. We see the circuits, we KNOW it's a machine.

But when you're growing up, if the world doesn't keep a Frankenstein complex going, if the only distinction is between friends that you buy, and ones you find...is there really a difference except the one you buy is famous? And for $30-300 would you CARE?

Sadly, I have to agree, in my mind I'd alway know it's a machine. A "romantic" relationship is not something I could muster. I would never get past that, but in old age when I'm all alone, with friends either distant or passed on, and my helper has been with me for 20 years because I couldn't stand to get an upgrade. I can't say hearing "I'm still here" from it wouldn't... break my heart. *tear*
