Do you want to have children someday?

@okami - they're almost one and the same, wife and kids, but recently that trend has been changing. There are quite a number of couples who live together unmarried for many years or who are married but have no kids.

Me? I want two kids, an older boy and a younger girl.

I know it but i work in traveling agency and the idea of seeing my child and wife only 2 days in week is not seen in bright light on my side.

hmm yea I would like to have children, preferrably just 1, and if its 2 a girl first and about 4-5 years later a boy (because I grew up with a little sister, and I thought it was pretty damn annoying, I always wished for an older sister)

As I am very interested in programing of the human brain; hell yeah!
As I am pretty much a lost cause myself, I could possibly spend all my time trying to create the ultimate person.
Then everything will be ruined when the child gets older and start school to get stupified with the rest of its kind.

I'm sure I would enjoy it, and It might even give me a lil feeling of purpose, but I am sure I am not mature enough.

this topic made me think..
i actually like the idea of having kids but the thought of having a wife never came to me...

I know. With modern technology what it is today, I don't have to have a husband to have a child, but I'll probably hold off until I'm in a stable, committed relationship if not a marriage. I'd be comfortable being a single surrogate, but I'd rather not bring my own kids up in a family without a father if I can help it. Being a foster parent or a godparent/ devoted aunt to nieces and nephews would be just as satisfying.

I put no beause I feel I'm too passive to be a father. But if it ends up happening, I'll do my best.

I want to be a father some day, I've even been taking notes from people who I think are raising their kids well, or people who I know would make really good fathers (but can't because of medical reasons) who deal with kids on a daily basis.

what do you mean not fuck up the gene pool?

A lot of people who have kids are, to put it bluntly are fucking stupid. That stupidity will pass onto their children. Those children will grow up and be even dumber than their parents. They'll have more kids that'll become dumber than their parents. The cycle just continues until you put a stop to it. If you haven't seen the movie "Idiocracy" if you haven't here is the intro

Its scary because its true. The idiots out populate the intelligent people by a wide margin and it just expands exponentially. So with that in mind Waar I have to disagree with you. Without natural selection taking place for our species then for a large number of people, the best thing they could do for the world is not have a child. Since in the "wild" the idiots would be a drastically reduced numbers.

Natural selection does affect humans, just not as intensely as some of us would prefer. The kids that kill themselves for stupid reasons? Natural selection. People who get themselves dead because they were driving while under the influence? Natural selection. The people who die because of drunk drivers? Bad luck and/or natural selection since they weren't skilled or observant enough drivers to avoid the situation. Too bad it isn't as prevalent a reason of death as I would like, but modern technology has allowed mediocrity to propagate to almost uncontrollable levels, now the exceptional are such a minority that they are "diminishing" in that they don't have as large a percent of the population as they once did in the past.

Yeah that's why I hope there's going to be a large war so that numbers can be drastically thinned.

I want to have children 2 at the least for me.

Not yet for now but soon. When the time is right and when i can financially support my future family.

Well even the last big war didn't really have a huge impact on the unexceptional, what we really need is a Macross-style war one that reduces humanity to it's assholes(or winholes however you want to look at it), since after being hit hard once our population went to just under a billion, then as we were recovering we got hit again, not even 10 years later mind you, yet our population didn't diminish all that much the second time around, the core badasses kept the casualties to a minimum.

Natural selection basically stopped when societies adopted decent hygiene, which I'm fine with.

From what I've seen the mediocrity is beginning a war on the exceptional people. In American, if your really rich (1 million+) people hate you for being successful and rather than raise themselves up to your level they want to drag you down to theres. If you have an awesome car (Vette, Porche, etc) I've actually seen people key one of those cars out of jealousy since they got out of a VW bug or a ford Taurus that has three shades of the same paint, etc. So while other continue the trend of failure they actually try to punish the people who succeed.

As much flak as this will draw I actually dream of a society where we use our ability to manipulate genetics for a positive outcome. I would clone soldiers instead of enlisting people just like in Star Wars. So when we come across a person that shows traits that are desirable (fast reflexes, etc, etc) then they would be incorporated in the next generation. Then the genes that we "toss out" could be mixed into the genes of newborns (similar to how people speculate with Genetics we can basically pick and choose the traits we want. This keeps the people at a relatively similar level. So cloning, and genetic would be used to improve society as a whole. If someone has genetics that aren't up to par then they are removed from the pool while Athletic, Intelligent, etc, etc genes are mixed into the next generation. We take evolution into our own hands.

Fiery about the Genetics there is a good movie you could watch It's called GATICA. It's talks about exactly what your talking about taking out genes that would other wise be useless and stimulate the genes that would be lead to success and a long life.

Yeah I'm not sure why people hate those who have money, they waste so much energy complaining about the rich that they don't have anything left to actually do work and move up in society. I may be at the bottom rung of the "not homeless" bracket but I don't hold any hatred towards those above me unless they throw it in my face, and then it is because they are being dicks about the fact that they are rich. The only thing I envy about the rich is their talent and/or luck depending on what got them there, I simply wish I had been gifted with such and then I continue on my day.

I do like the thought of being able to change our genetics for the better, I don't think clone armies are the way though, after awhile the genes get bad (like in Star Wars, remember clone troopers kick ass, storm troopers are just this side of pants on head retarded.) I would prefer something like the Spartan II project that was horrifyingly effective. Individuality is important on the battle field that way you don't have any screw ups like everyone asking for covering fire at the same time and then simultaneously running out of cover.

We're getting a little bit off track to the point of we should make a new topic. Even though I played a part in going off on a tangent lets get back to the topic at hand.
