Do you think it is safe, do you think it is dangerous, put down your opinions and argue. Personally i think it is safe, the last major meltdown the mess with the earth was Chernobyl, and to state it plainly, that was human error + stupidity. So what do you think?

Nuclear power plants actualyl have defaults that lock everything down (ie sealed exit, full control rod insertion, etc) in case of ANY threat to the reactor, no atter how small. It takes override to stop all those procedures and so only on human error can it really melt down any more

its good actually but the risk is too high...
cause i believe in the law of universe...everything are bound to be f**ked up sooner or later

aside from cases of a complete lack of maintenence, nuclear power is pretty safe. really things like burning coal/oil/whatever are more dangerous because of polution effects on surrounding areas and the risks of fire. nuclear power is more effiecient and longerlasting then other sources and in the long run a lot cheaper. aside from having to bury some waste (which is also safe for people and the enviroment when handled properly, despite the bad wrap it gets in movies) nuclear power is essentially free of pollution.

Nuclear power is like flying a plane in my opinion. It's safe but if it goes bad then it fucks up royally and everyone involved is gonna die. Chernobyl went massively wrong and there is still stuff going on around it. Mind you it was a freak accident that won't happen again barring massive incompetence or some shit headed terrorist that wants to render a few thousand miles of land uninhabitable and get his country wiped off the face of the earth in retaliation to it.

I say, go nuclear power since there aren't many alternatives.

as long as we don't do something stupid or make too many mystakes nuclear power is the best alternative

as long as i could see the blue sky and be assured that the lights won't go out on me while i play an online multiplayer game,
Nuke Power is okay

i think it'd be neat to see two headed dogs, walking, talking, sword-and-shuriken-wielding pizza-loving turtles and a secret organization of a totally new species of humans around...

it would definitely eat up all of the two hours of early evening depressing news programs and keep people entertained in a better way

nuclear power is safe. although many in power plants safety mechanisms go without proper maintenance and updating.
most nuclear accidents at power plants were a result of an instrument not reading correctly or a safety device failure. iirc..

the local plant has fire protection that is not up to spec. if there were a fire in the control room or something. :3

but there are also different types of nuclear power. fission, which is widely in use today, and fusion which i believe is still experimental. fusion is believed to be the safer of the two.

Fusion is incredibly hard to achieve and will not come out of the experiment stages for a long time and in the end we will probably use more electricity getting the machine to work then it will actually produce...

Also look up plasma power -.-

fusion would theoretically produce near infinate power from my understanding, the problem is just that its something we don't understand very well yet.

As long as Homer Simpson isn't working at one. Two thumbs up for nuclear plants.

Im ma in for the noke power, actually in sense of serious handling nuke power is nothing more than a good pure energy output tht save a load of money and provide good energy output.

I think nuclear energy is quite useful for supplying the continent with enough power. The only real problem I can think of is the waste. However if we can find a place to store the used rods for (I think) a quarter of a million years. Then we`re set, because after that time the rods will return to their original state allowing us to reuse them indefinitely.

by means of multifarious technology , we now have heavy water and lead wall to make the condition save

I recall reading that coal power plants create 4 times as much radiation residue as a Nuclear Power Plant does...

I agree with mew It's a good source for energy but it has to much waste being pumped out to be a truly great source of energy. For its nuclear waste to break down it takes a time period over thousands of years. Also to store it in a place were it won't become hazardous is an issue.

People have had many Ideas on what to do with its waste. Burning didn't go so well and shooting into space proved to expensive. The only real solution was to bury it which why did. Sadly after we did that we discovered that the barrels we stored them in won't out last the constant breaking down on the sub-atomic level over time. Still it was and still is one of the only ways to get rid of it.

Another horrible thing in the waste problem is a math calculation gone wrong. The United States government had a building plan for a massive storage facility for the nuclear waste. It is already under construction and won't be done till around 2015. Yet again we discovered after we started a project that with our current consumption of nuclear energy that it would not hold all of the waste that would be need to be stored there. I mention this another time this facility is MASSIVE!

I don't think people realize that the amount of nuclear waste that has been produced so far is minuscule (Navy claims about a football field 6 feet high of waste). Coal power produces far more waste than nuclear power. I'm pretty sure most of the nuclear waste this country produces is still stored on site.

Because of the general publics fear of nuclear power, the power plants are so highly regulated that a nuclear meltdown is very unlikely.

Yeah, when you actually read about Nuclear Plants, you realize just how safe it really is. A meltdown is just as likely to occur as you getting hit by a car flying through the air... in Africa.

Nuclear power is safe. America just needs to get over the negative stigma. The technology isn't really there, currently, for all of the alternative energy sources (wind, solar, etc.) especially with the oil industry blocking them (yes it is happening). The technology for nuclear is here. We have it and I believe that we need to start using it. I also realize that technology needs to be developed for dealing with the waste bi-product.
