another question. I saw a youtube vid that the defenders used, a tatic that I refer to in bad company 2 as "Baserape" where the defender is camping on the egde killzone of teh base of teh attacker, keeping them from getting to the first set of mcom stations. the map with teh artic harbor in bc2 was natorious for this tatic. and I was wondering how common it is in bf3?

sorry if I am asking such questions here, but I would like to know like many others what to expect in bf3 multiplayer before I get it.

Most I've seen is when the attacking team gets stopped in their tracks when the map reaches a chokepoint that the defending team has on total lockdown. It rarely happens but there are a few maps where it's quite possible. Operation Metro is probably one of the most likely of the multiplayer maps for this to occur on, though. But if you think about it, that makes sense, an area would be a lot easier to defend when there's no reason to fear being flanked, so they can focus on the enemies ahead of them.

Another example is the "Seine Bridge", the first checkpoint is the tightest chokepoint. I manage to get many sniper kills from the top floor of the building housing the B MCOM.

A detailed look at Squad refinements

Today's PC client patch features numerous tweaks to Squad functionality and is part of our ongoing efforts to make it easier to play with friends and Platoon mates. These changes will also be implemented for consoles when we release the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 updates shortly. Stay tuned for the exact date of the console updates.

First, we need to look at how joining with Squads and Platoons affects the balance of teams. Initially, servers are commanded to equal out each side, so joining with friends can impact that balance while joining with Platoons further hinders this. As a result we have made some adjustments to the in-game Squad management screen.

For PC, you are now able to highlight the various Squads and select which one you wish to join by selecting a Squad and then clicking the Join Squad button. Please note that the Squad Privacy option still allows 2 man Squads which, during 64 player sessions, can lead to players with no squad position –- the number of people with no Squads will be shown at the bottom of the Squad selection list.

After the patch is applied to consoles (in the near future) you will be able to join Squads by cycling through the list and selecting which Squad you wish to join.

My thoughts:

IR is not OP, so I don't care.
Flashlight will still be as bright as the sun.
Mortars.. I think I should bring an umbrella on my next match.

On the plus side, at least now we can join the squad of our choice. :D

Now the server side:
Today (Tue Nov 22nd, 2011) we have updated most components of BF3 PC:

* We have released an update to the BF3 PC game client via Origin. It is ~500MB large. Everyone will be prompted to install the update.
* We have updated the master servers - mainly stability fixes.
* We have updated Battlelog - see the blog post for details.
* We have sent out a new game server build to all PC RSPs.

The new server is R9, build ID 886605.

Battlelog will only show Server R9 or newer. This is because the new game client is no longer compatible with the older game servers. The RSPs are gradually updating their servers. As they complete the update you will see more and more servers in the browser.

Here is a near-complete changelist for the game servers:

* Support for unranked servers (vars.ranked)
* Ranked servers have a few settings as read-only (see documentation)
* Unranked servers allow changing of all settings
* Reintroduced vars.allUnlocksUnlocked for unranked servers
* The game server will parse all of Startup.txt even if an error is encountered
* vars.roundStartPlayerCount / vars.roundRestartPlayerCount handling rewritten to be more natural
* vars.maxPlayers cannot be used to go past the server's max number of slots any more
* Security updates to the game server
* Fixed several server crashes, hangs, and a 10-second stall - all of which which would make the server drop every player
* vars.gamePassword can only be invoked during server startup, not while the server is already running
* vars.teamKillCountForKick 0 will disable team kicking instead of kicking people frivolously
* banList.add would sometimes crash; fixed now
* EOD bot scoring exploit fix

If you are a server administrator that run ranked servers, then you should take note that a few settings are no longer changeable for ranked servers.
The most notable example here is that you are no longer able to set the min # of players to start a round to less than 4. This is to prevent statspadding.
Secondly, the idle timeout mechanism is always on, and set at 300 seconds on ranked servers. This is to prevent people idling for long swathes of time on ranked servers. Having idle kick at 5 minutes is harsh, and we will revisit the max timeout for Server R10 - however, we do not plan to allow for turning of the idle kick altogether.

If you are a server administrator that run unranked servers, notice that you should set the server to unranked by having a 'vars.ranked false' at the top of your Startup.txt. You must set it to unranked during the server startup; once the server is present on Battlelog, it can no longer be switched between ranked and unranked status. Once it is set to unranked, all other settings can be controlled. And yes, the setting for unlocking all weapons & gadgets (vars.allUnlocksUnlocked) is back.

My thoughts:

To prevent stat padding, Ranked matches can only start if there are 4 players..

Makes me sad panda.

I am getting sick of some people using Mortars all the way back in there Deployment zone, i can't even get far in to kill them before the timer runs out.

nother question. I saw a vid on youtube again with a guy who had thermal and secondary mg for the tank. in bc2, you can only use 1 vehicle unlock, but in this vid for bf3 he seems to be using 2. how is this possible? and does this apply to all vehicles other then the tank?

The server side patch is officially pissing me off.

I stay in my clan's server to seed, and the it kicks me out for being idle for 5 minutes.

I wouldn't be idle if THEY DID ALLOW PEOPLE TO DO STUFF PRE-MATCH, like in BC2.

You can have 3 unlocks on a single vehicle.

Spotting is the most important thing in BF3.

Only noobs don't spot. Every time i see an enemy i make sure to press the Q button. Often at times even if i've got a sure fire kill lined up, i'll still press the Q button to spot the enemy before i shoot him just in case.
Shit! You are definitely love to play BC3 with. Especially when I am using the mortars or sniping or in a jet or helicopter. Also I hate those that play as support and dont give ammo

Is it the weapon, the aiming or just plain luck?

I say it is all three.

I've experienced this a lot in the Operation Metro beta. Some random guy would go prone and camp it around a corner and like fire his weapon once and kill me.

Then I'd respawn, go back to where I died, but this time trying to kill the guy who was camping it, but the moment I would get to the doorway, I'd just die almost instantly from getting shot by the same guy.

It could just be a case of him actually unloading his gun on you, but the game just not giving you any visual cues or sounds beyond that of a single gunshot. Similarly, I believe I've had some problems regarding player health in multiplayer as well. I recall a match where I suddenly dropped dead only seconds after entering a buiding. The killcam would later show that I was shot in the back by a M92 Raffica, a gun which can't kill a damn thing without emptying it's entire clip into the target. Not only did I not hear a single gunshot coming from behind me, but I didn't even know I was loosing health until I suddenly keeled over.

yep you can now upgrade your tanks with up to 3 items under the catagories upgrade (armor, optics, etc), gadets (ir smoke, etc), and weapons (lmg/hmg, canister rounds, etc), my hubby abslouletly loves this feature in bf3, and yes, it applie sto all vehicles sept them fast moving jeeps/atvs. and if you didn't know, you can customize what yrou guy wears into battle, and the weapons he goes in with too.
