Tough question, but a country can make a benefit out of it.

Make it legal, but put heaps of tax on it, just like how Australia do on cigarettes.
They put a lot of tax in it in order to deter people from smoking and gain money from smokers.

But, bear in mind that there are also risks that comes with it.
Violence, addicts, etc etc could also be a problem for the country.

Other countries that legalize pot don't seem to have any big problems revolved around the substance, so I don't see why not. If they do legalize it, the gov. should tax the hell out of it.

Don't see a reason why not to, might as well legalize every drug while you're at it.(for personal use, not distribution)
Countries that did it have benefited.(Netherlands,Portugal,Spain)
Also with a government and/or actual drug companies controlled distribution it might actually drive drug cartels out of business or at least weaken their influence.
In the end if someone needs the government to... not OD... I call it natural selection.

I always see a lot of arguments why it should be legalized but i never see arguments againsts it so i'm really curious to know why some people are still against it ? May be it's just uninformed peoples on the subject that vote no because they are afraid of drugs since they have been told it's a "bad" thing :/

NO. I've never smoked weed or even normal cigarettes ever but I wouldn't want this to get legalized. Not only does it damage your health, if this shit gets legalized, what the fuck do you think will happen to the next generation!

As a pot smoker i am for the legalization and taxation of marijuana only to help states get out of debt with control of course, sure there are some small health issues put they are minimal compared to the health benefits. look at all the pills they pump into us, all of the health risks they carry and that shit is legal and we commercialize that shit to children. people die from prescription pills everyday. and look at cigarets and alcohol what health benefits are there in this, none and it's all legal.

I vote Hell NO. Smelling a persons cigarette smoke is bad enough. I honestly can't fathom WHY people knowingly pump/snort/smoke/eat/whatever drug into their bodies when it is obviously bad for them. I understand it is their body and they could do whatever they want with it, but I'd rather use pot money to buy a good book, treat my family out, or buy a game or something. The feeling of making OTHER people happy is a different form of happiness that can't be obtained by getting high. Plus, I have sprayed people in my class with Axe. I'm like a Bloodhound when it comes to smelling that stuff. And if you've ever been to Oregon, it's pretty pathetic to see a bunch of fat potheads/smokers freaking out because their body is demanding a drug that their body used to be able to produce at small levels on its own and pick stuff up off of the ground. At least Cigar's smell somewhat good even though it's still not right. Oh, and I'll say it the most common thing. Pot is a gateway drug.

If I did make it legal, I'd make sure to tax the living hell out of it. You want to get high? Fine, but then make sure to help our economy out a nice bit.

I used to be heavily on the 'Drugs are BAD, mmkay?' bandwagon for a while. I desperately wanted to believe my government was smart and genuinely just cared about the welfare of its citizens.

I was completely wrong.

There are many, many, many, many documentaries and articles out there higlighting the fact that Cannabis should be viewed as a legitimate medicine and not a shade substance to be condemned. I've met a large handful of people who have been smoking for decades, all with clean bills of health. Spotless lungs. Braincells firmly in tact. Jobs are maintained. Lives are on track.

There was even a study done, comparing smokers to non-smokers. Non-smokers smoked, smokers stopped. The study showed that any 'withdrawal' symptoms wore off after 24 hours, and there was no visible long-term damage in the 'life-long' smokers.

I really believe that the only reason these studies are being ignored is because they're independent. The government has so much profit to lose by legalizing hemp. Which could upset the lumber/paper industry.

All in all,

I stand by my decision to smoke, I did not make it lightly. It took a LOT of research, LOTS of conversations, LOTS of reading. Based on my collective experiences, I've concluded that the illegality of cannabis is fucking stupid.

Yes, for a few reasons. Cannabis is far safer than either cigarettes or alcohol, both of which are legal. You rarely hear about people getting addicted to pot, and i've never heard of anyone getting violent because they were too high, unlike with getting drunk.

And legalization takes away a cash crop from drug cartels and organized crime. When alcohol was legalized organized crime lost a way of making money, and legalizing weed would have the same effect. It can be taxed to provide the government with revenue. It also frees up space in prisons.

So to me there are far more reasons to legalize it than not to. I don't believe in the gateway drug argument. Sure most addicts probably start out with weed, but i believe there are plenty of people who smoke weed and weed only.

Actually... Marijuana has a lot of beneficial properties. I can't say the same for other drugs, I've never partaken in any of them. But look up the research. Cancer patience use it to counter the chemo so they can keep their food down, some disabled veterans use it to dull pain, a small number of kids with epilepsy use it to prevent seizures. The only thing all of these people who medically need it have in common is a tolerance issue with prescribed medicine. Either it doesn't work for them and they overdose, or it makes them sick. For them, pot is the only solution. And there is no tar in it, so it's not bad for the lungs. In fact, when you're high, it helps you to breath. Your lung function is improved. The only reason you choke when you smoke is because you're heating it up and letting that hot air and smoke in.

I can't really say that i appose but i can't say that i totally agree with the idea.
The thing is that we have the people who ACTUALLY need it and then you have the people who just want to get a free wad to smoke whenever they choose. In my opinion its a thing that will always in the middle if you have a equal point of view considering both sides, so i can't really say yes or no at the moment.

First , can you tell me why it should be illegal to smoke because it dammage MY health ? It's my life , i'm a free man , i can do whatever i want with my body . The fact that you don't want to smoke doesn't justify that you should take others right to do it .

Do you seriously think that because weed is illegal that stop anyone from smoking it ? Making it legal would make safer products since it would be regulated , there would less crimes since most criminality turn around drugs and it would give more money to the gouvernment that will be redistributed in services for everyone . I think next generation would be just fine .

So you vote "HELL NO" , you're really against it but you have absolutly no logical reason to be against it ? It's just as my first point , just because you don't want to take drugs it doesn't mean it should be illegal.

Oh and "Pot is a gateway drug." is just not true , it's just a common thing that uniformed people on drugs like you like to say because they have no real arguments against it .

Yes... there is no reason no to other than business... and another way the developed countries can keep an upper-hand over the less developed ones.

Up in smoke
Thats where my money goes
In my lungs
and sometimes up my nose
When troubled times
Begin to bother me
I take a toke
and all my cares
Go up in smoke

Okay, so I recently wrote a blog about why marijuana should be legalized in the U.S. Now, I'm going to give it to you straight... Some of the things I say are not really "user friendly"-- in the blog. But I'm one of those people who doesn't generally care. I do want opinions on it. So if my fellow Fakku users could please read my blog (link attached below), and tell me what you think, that'd be awesome. *thumbs up*

Please do not make an argument about it. I want civil opinions. If you put anything along the lines of "the bible", "Jesus", "anarchy", "fuck government"-- your argument is invalid and will therefore be IGNORED. K.Thnx.Bai<3

Lmao if weed was legalized nothing would get fucking done. You ever try to do something high? It ain't pretty. That and any distributors of it would get fucking ransacked.

FYI weed is a gateway drug seeing how it can easily be laced with shit that'll have you coming back for more next thing you know you're on heroin or some shit. Seen it happen first hand.

If your argument made any sens , alchool would have destroyed our country long ago ... And ransacked ? Seriously , are you so uninformed that you think that weed is addictive ? Liquor stores are doign just fine and so would weed stores .

So you saw someone take weed and then take other drugs and because of that weed is a gateway to drug ? My friend ate poptarts for breakfeast , for diner he ate at mcdonald, from your logic , poptarts is a gateway to fastfood .

I don't really think it should be legalized for distribution but more decriminalized so it wouldn't be easy for minors to get a hold of it and it won't be in your face when you go into shops I personally smoke pot with my friends occasionaly as I find it a safer alternative to drinking and it costs alot less.

Well, I'm from a country where weed is semi-legal, so though it is socially shunned, it's really easy to get. Compared to other countries, it's pretty cheap too.

Should weed be legalized - well no. One of my major attractions to weed is it's being illegal. Makes me feel kinda badass.
Also, I can't help but think of the impact it would have on minors. Weed is psychologically addictive.

Your sig was a major distraction while I was typing this. I spent an additional 5 minutes on this post because of those juicy melons.
