SerS - The Serious Squad Thread

Tegumi "im always cute"
I can't see anything wrong with same-sex marriages either. In fact, I think just about the only reason someone would find it utterly repulsive is if they were highly religious.

I define marriage as the closest bond you can have with another human being. And if that's the way someone swings, so be it.
0
I think it should be allowed. Though I do understand that certain religious people are against it as marriage (as opposed to civil unions) is a religious thing and feel that same sex couples are....I dunno...dirtying their religion if they did get married. However I don't really care if people like that are offended because if your religious beliefs are so unbending and cannot change with the world around you then you have serious problems.
0
Personally, I'm against same sex marriages, though that does not mean I am homophobic. I have my faith's beliefs, though I'm not one of those unbending arrows that publicly condemn those who are same sex.

People have the freedom with how or who they want to marry, regardless of who thinks it's right or wrong. As for legalizing same sex marriages, I think that topic should've stayed outta the courtroom, as it is causing all this pointless controversy/gay rallies/anti-gay rallies.

So in essence, I do not approve of same sex marriages, but I believe those who are same sex should not be condemned by others for their sexual preference.

"Hate the sin, not the sinner"

hates a rather strong word pennlocke, sins are just classified indulgences after all. to each their own of course! but if a faith belittles abstract desires then i want even less to do with them.

depends on your perspective of what marriage is really for. a sacrement of matrimony between a man and a women or a piece of paper that says your legit? personally i dont think it matters whos beneath the religious missle toe so long as the feelings mutual, its a big commitment in ones life time.

EDIT:

I added a TOPICS DISCUSSED part to the first post, so we can see what topics have already been discussed, in addition on that I added the LATEST DISCUSSION that is currently going on and provided the related links.

If anyone has more Suggestion how to organise the Thread in a better way than PM me.
For example the way to begin a new Topic is still a little bit lame since we have to wait for the topicchanger to respond with in 6 hours.

I think we should have a poll thread. Then each of us can come up with hopefully interesting topics. When six topics come up each of them are posted into poll. Then a vote is cast. Do this a few times so that so we have a queue of what is going to be talked about, rather than being stuck waiting for the next topic.

Mind you setting this up would take a few days to build the topics up, so we'll still be waiting for impromptu topics in this thread during set up but it's the best thing I can think to do at the moment.

We will do so I already established it.

Okay since The Topic Threads are going. here is the next Topic

Internet Privacy, Why should the government care
0
So okay I will kepp this thread going. Damn no body even replied to the new topic thread.

In germany is basicly a fight beween the goverment and guy that protect the public right.

I think it is necessary to control certain action on the internet, the only problem is that the control has to be controlled as well.
I germany many politicans refer to the "we only want to protect you from terrorist attacks" phrase. Well as I say it is necessary but should be hardly controlled as well, but most people in germany a still scared because of National Socialism-times as well a DDR-times.

As long as internet control is only controlling and trying to prevent terrorist attacks it is fine.

And furthermore it is very expensive to control people, think about the fact how much time and personal it costs to control a single other person. Thats why the BND only tries to control the "big fishs" otherwise it would be a massive wast of money and time.

So I don´t see my privacy in danger if the goverment spies at me at this time, I only care about the control of the control, especially that certain datas do net get in the hands of others.

As for the governments involvement for internet privacy, I believe as long as they keep doing the things they do(cracking down on ID thefts), I'm all for it.

Obviously the internet is an easy way for hackers and ID thiefs to steal someone's identity, card numbers, SSN, etc. This is where the government comes in.

As for people who like to view porn, I know some states outlaw that, or certain kinds of porn. I know viewing lolicon has been outlawed in some places, as it has been deemed by the state governments as child pornography. However the Supreme Court upholds "virtual" child porn (hentai) under certain guidelines (First Amendment) and other conditions. In otherwords it still is a controversy.

But hey, I live in Cali and last I checked looking at loli isn't illegal, and if it is then oh well, not really my thing anyways... once ina while maybe.. >.>

I agree with that but if they were to control it they would start controlling stuff that has nothing to do with public safety and start to waste more and more money on controls, as the internet is ever growing.

I think that focus on controlling the tools the hacker have or they should focus on defenses against hackers

You make two very good points on why the government should care. Sure I'm hip to them cracking down on evil hackers, I'm jive with them spying on the "internet predators", and am content when they catch some random glimpse of an imminent terrorist attack...but with all great deeds comes a bad one,

I'm not happy when the government decides to view my private email, when whatever site I wish to visit is programmed to record my being there. That is when the government starts to overstep their boundaries, when the basic freedom of surfing the internet and writing, watching, listening to, whatever the hell I feel like is suddenly blockaded for the "protection of the greater good" or to keep information that should other wise be allowed access to the public "behind bars".

I'm happy that the US gov't is so liberal on the issues of Internet. But when they start banning sites, or shutting down vital and amazing sites because of their content their taking it a bit too far in wanting to insure everyones safety.

Well we are all still here. Lol

But seriously, they really should stop. Last night they compared two cars colliding to show what would essentially happen in the LHC. ...The result was the cars being totalled (destroyed). Similarities, anyone?

They could have used the money for this project for something more important than finding out how the universe was made, something like fighting against resistant strain epidemics (HIV, Cancer, Tuberculosis) of all sorts. Or actually make another telescope to send out into space and find out the secrets that way instead of trying to replicate it here on earth.

Back to the Internet Privacy topic.

The government should be able to monitor what goes on in the Web. Without government presence, there would be nothing there to stop the spread of illegal content or to prevent hackers from running rampant.

The main concern that everyone has with governmet monitoring is that they are having their privacy infringed upon. My question is: Should monitoring actions on the Internet truly be considered an invasion of privacy? We are all browsing the Internet anonymously. Even if the government knows that we are looking at porn or whatever else we do in our free time, how is that an invasion of privacy if they don't even know who we are?. The government may have our IP address, but what does that tell them about us? They don't know who we are as individuals, and as long as you don't do anything illegal they'll have no reason to find out.
0
It doesn't really matter anyway, even if they monitor it there will still be getting away with things, governments can never stop hackers even when they try. Any government would just cock it up anyway, plus it would be a waste of money when they could be spending it on things that matter more.
