I'm getting this but I have to say it's the first handheld where I got warned off by the sales clerk about getting sick.

I guess they're a bit paranoid with the 3D. Similar warnings are technically on most games or game systems these days.

I picked one up for $90 bucks...no charger ,instructions,ar cards....or box....I'm like 99.9% sure it was stolen cause I bought it from some guy ,and the 3DS had the main  Mii in it named Stephanie ...but w.e not my problem. Besides you can get a 3rd party charger cheap ,and download everything else online (even the AR cards, they supposedly work really well on iphone ,and android phones

I love all the pre-loaded stuff. The street pass rpg is fun, face raiders is neat, and the AR games are very cool.

I just tested the sound program today. Put some Zelda OoT and Castle Crashers music on the SD card and tried it out. I love it! I thought it was just going to play music. However, it has some neat sound modifying features as well as the ability to change the speed and pitch of the music. R and L act as percussion instruments to add in your own sound and feel the beat. There are also some sweet visualizations including a slideshow of pictures on your SD, 3D classic visualizer, an awesome Excitebike one where the track's elevation goes with the music, and others. You can also record your own sounds using the mic.

It's a very neat app and keeps me in a good mood while I'm doing homework.

Hmm I got a chance to spend a few hours playing it at my local Target. Tbh, it was a disappointment. I've heard many others not have problems with the 3D, but perhaps I haven't broken in my eyes or something. I've tweaked the 3D multiple times throughout the demos (of that one flying/glider game) and my head starts to hurt after a few minutes. On the bright side however, the 3D works, and it admittedly works and looks very well. It's too bad it's such a stress on my eyes, as I'd most likely keep it in 2D.

Pros:

1) Amazing 3D effect that works well. This DS lives up to its name
2) Analog nub is very nice and smooth in comparison to the analog nub one would find on a psp/go
3) Larger upper screen is quite vibrant and 400 x 240 res is much nicer and less pixelated
4) Free 2 gig SD card. TAKE NOTE SONY, FREE STUFF WITH EXPENSIVE PRODUCT
5) The 3DS launch lineup is quite impressive.

Cons/complaints:

1) With that price tag for a 3D feature that I wouldn't be able to use, I'd be greatly discouraged to buy it.
2) Suffers from the same mistake that plagued the current line of PSPs. The analog placement makes it impractical for fps games (which always somehow make it onto the DS)
3) While the 3D camera somewhat works, it's needless to say that in all practicality the images are dreadful in quality.
4) Still uses a non capacitive touch screen which makes me cry rainbows from my ears, in a bad way. It works though, and that new contractible pen stylus thing they give you is nice.
5) May just be me, but the start, select and home buttons feel cheaply built
6) As I was demoing a store version I couldn't tell what the battery life was, however many people complain that they can only get 3-4 hours out of it.

I am quite tempted to purchase a Nintendo 3DS, especially when I read above its related reviews.

However, since I am not very knowledgeable in games and consoles, may I enquire if any sort of internet subscription is required to connect with users worldwide, for example, members of Fakku on the other side of the world? Or am I limited only to the local area?

You can play anyone anywhere as long as you have access to wifi ,and the same game...though I suppose with the new region locking taking place it may now be a tad more limited than in the DS/DSL/DSi/DSXL era...I am playing old DS games ,and Street Fighter 3DS globally ,but future titles may be limited by region or what network they play on like demon souls JP not working on same network as demon souls US not allowing cross-region play unless ur using copies of the game with the same region coding(which due to the region locking would mean ud all have to have 3ds's from the same region as well)

TLDR; Will probably depend on game being played..some will work ,others will likely not.

here to add to this:

There are some games that have special modes in them [like Super Street Fighter 4] that can interact with other 3DS systems without needing the game in the system. SSF4's figurine mode data is saved onto the system and it will record any encounters you have in streetpass mode [you pass people who have a 3DS and information automatically exchanges]. You can then view the battle results when you put SSF4 in the system.

TL;DR you don't exactly need the same game in the system, just the same game save.

Regular DS game have kept the region free policy when playing on the 3DS, so yea a japanese or other import original DS game will work fine. However in regards to wireless play with original DS games you still have to connect to a compatible WEP or unencrypted connection. They can't use the new WPA/WPA2 options that the 3DS offers, only 3DS games can use that option.
