Quite likely to be true for me as well. It was the same with the DS. Until Diamond/Pearl came out, I was using my sister's GBA. Well, thanks to that I got the improved DS Lite instead of the original DS, though, so a pretty good decision in the end. Maybe 3DS will see an update before I get around to buying one as well? :D

I'm to lazy to read up on this, so someone fill me in on this. Can the touch screen put out 3D images or just the top screen.

If it's just the top screen, pass.

Just the top screen. As they said, 3D and touchscreens don't mix that well.

The bottom screen is a touch panel. Fingerprints and smudges reduce the 3-D effect, so a touch screen and 3-D screen “do not get along very well.” So the bottom is a touch screen, but not the top. The top is the 3-D screen.

I didn't think I was going to be excited at allfor the 3ds but I was dead wrong. It basically gives me everything I wanted out of the original ds let alone any handheld ever. It seems like really strong games are really important to this and drawn to it because it has superiour graphics to the old versions and it can handle a lot more. Once I heard metal gear solid, resident evil, and dead or alive was gonna be in there I was ecstatic. I love fighting games and the fact the ds is finally gonna get some is really awesome. Plus I love all this news about. Potential re releases of games like ocarina of time and star fox.
The slide pad seems really handy and the 3d camera was an extra I didn't need but certainly will be fun to have. So overall I am extremely excited to get my hands on it :)

Cam of someone playing the Metal Gear Solid 3-D game (or more like watching the tech demo, but whatever), looks awesome.

Watch here.
Nintendo has impressed me to a even greater extant because you can even see the 3D effects through a cam.

How could you have seen the 3D when your computer screen isn't 3D? xD
Because you dont need glasses to see them lol

But you do need a screen capable of showing 3D effects.

I don't really see the need for the bottom screen to have 3D...

erm, im not exactly sure if the 3D in 3DS is actually 3D as in, images pop up >>; from what ive seen in videos, the 3Ds pretty much is a DS where when you move the hand-held, you see things in a slightly different perspective in the game world (coz the 2 cameras read the walls behind you). I'd assume it gets buggy when the camera is looking at really colorful things or uneven surfaces (example would be your blanket when you are playing it on the bed).

So far, the 3DS doesnt seem like its gonna do as it says. 1 thing I would be interested in getting a 3DS for is probably only for snake eater.... thats about it >>; if the 3DS really does provide "pop up" 3D graphics, then i might get one (which also depends on the games coming out on it), if not, then no.

Ignore my ignorant post >>; went ahead to look further into it and found out that the "3D effect" doesnt work on cameras. So I will have to wait til its released and see for myself. I might get one, but we'll see. ;P Id like one for pokemon black/white and snake eater.

But i still fear the uneven/colorful surface issue that might arise.

As with all the new 3D movies the 3DS will just provide more visual depth rather than having shit popping out of the screen.

Is it bad that one of the only reasons I'm considering buying this system is so I can play Star Fox, LoZ: OoT and SMT games? o.O

That aside, I hope it's backwards compatible...

It's completely compatible with all DS and DSi games.

1 Billion pixels, that is 400 Million more pixels than on the PSP.

^ 1 billion pixels? what do you mean by that?

the N3DS can only display
800 x 240 pixels (dual layer top screen)
+ 320 x 240 pixels (Bottom screen)
= 1,120 x 240 pixels
totalling to:
268,800 pixels

^ thats adding all three screens in.

the closest pixel related thing i can think of about what you mentioned is the pixel fillrate:
being 1.6 billion pixels per second (pps), in that case, it will be almost 1billion pps better than the PSP, since the psp's pixel fillrate is only 664 million pps.

But pixel fillrate really isnt used for measuring graphics capabilities anymore as the bottleneck in graphics applications has shifted. The N3DS cannot even draw polygons at the rate of the PSP to fully utilize the high pixel fillrate, Though this unusually high pixel fillrate may be nintendo's secret to achieveing the 3D effect.

There are rumours that the N3DS has about the same power as the Xbox360 and the PS3, i really very highly doubt it, but you never know. Either ways, im still just gonna wait for it to be out before i make a decision on this.

Ah I see. Half the pixels are slightly oriented right and the other half is oriented left. You can notice it when he moves the 3DS.

Also its been Slashdotted here with more info.

. . .how Nintendo hopes to update as many older games as they can to incorporate 3D gameplay in addition to 3D graphics.

The Whole 3d Thing I want to see for myself before I say anything about it, but a portable n64 with better graphics. + Other games like mgs3 and street fighter, sounds alright so far.

Now the 3DS is fast approaching. is it too late to buy a dsiXL? or i should just wait for the new 3DS?
i don't have a DS in hand but I'm thinking of getting one..

Oh thanks, I was talking about the PPS. But hell, if you compare the screens from the 3DS and the PSP, the 3DS has higher detail.
