I decided to reduce the required post count significantly and increase the reputation requirement. This is not meant to be something that is easy to obtain.

500 is an absolutely fine post requirement. Actually, it's disproportionately low compared to the rep requirement. Jacob runs this site and gets his rep increased every day and doesn't even have 75 yet. Being an average user that makes only a modest amount of site uploads and gets most of his rep through witty posting, I only have 12 rep. If custom ranks were something that I was really concerned about then I would want the rep requirement lowered if anything. 35 rep is actually reasonable to make it a standard reward for a constructive and active member of the site. If Jacob likes the rep where it is then I'd just suggest that he give the privilege to mods or other people that deserve it.

While I had been thinking 30ish would be a good rep requirement, I think for custom titles jacob has the right idea, it should be something ridiculous like 50 or 75. Maybe there should be some set ranks for like 20, 30, 40 rep, etc. in combination with post counts.

Eh, the high rep # will (hopefully) mean more "good" posts (especially in uploads)

lol it would be nice to have "The Baka Lord" under my name...but I can wait...i am not in much of a hurry to be the idiot lord xD...well i am...but none the less I know it will take me awhile to ge tthat high just because of not being on very often...sighz

Which is why I also made a point of saying Jacob could offer it as a prize for contests or as a reward for being super awesome or whatever. Technically he has the power to do it if he wants since he runs the site but having him on board for offering up custom titles would give everyone even more reason to kiss his ass.
