I don't see a problem with including it really. If you prefer to stay anonymous, we could just have a 'prefer to hide gender/location' option, and if you want people to know more about yourself, then whoopee.

I foresee the females members receiving a lot more PMs, if it isn't already the case right now. There is always the possibility of "traps" trolling the forum too.
Having the choice as to whether one wishes to reveal such information, suggested by some, is definitely a good idea.

Just keep the option to remain anonymous or to choose what information is displayed and I'm sure that everyone can get what they want.

Not necessary, but interesting. It's a few more bytes that one will get sick of seeing though. Depends on how much clutter it introduces.
