Not So Elite

As you may have noticed some people have been gaining elite status much much faster than is normal. I think you need to re-evaluate what qualifies a person for elite and possibly elder status. Possibly perhaps a word count, a limit to how many posts count a day, or some other limiter to discourage people from spamming. As is I'd rather not have a title at all if it means the quality of my posts are going to be associated with the quality of spam posts.

Well said. I totally support your argument, and I believe a word count is definitly required. From my previous forum, preventing spam posts was done with a word count limiter, though I don't know what the code for that is specifically.
But in acutality, I believe that this type of problem is indicative of a need for Moderators. Moderators can edit people's posts and also delete other people's comments if it doesn't meet FAKKU's standards of posting. But Jacob said that mods are for now unecessary and he'd rather hold them off till later.

Well, as we all know, E.X.A.M is Chuu, or someone in the exact same location as Chuu. I've checked this up using various sources, and if this is protested, I can post Chuu/E.X.A.M's latitude and longitude to show that I know.
Since this is the only real case of spam, and users are rising up in the ranks [not to mention there are more of them], perhaps the title should be changed to something a little less grandeur. FAKKU Elite is a slightly over the top considering the requirements for it. Perhaps FAKKU Regular or FAKKU non-lurker :P.
And I'm not saying this because I can fit inside the "FAKKU Elder" rank [even though I change it every few days] and don't want others there. On the contrary, I want people who earn the title feel proud to have it. FAKKU User for 250 posts, and FAKKU Regular for 500. And perhaps FAKKU Elder [or Elite, but that implies elitism, which wouldn't be all that fun] at 1000. The User title still gives people something to aim for, without making them sound like people who have been on the site for two years.
On the topic of moderators, discussions have been had, but considering I haven't heard from any of the admins for a while, I couldn't really tell you much about it. I'm in favour of the idea, and before you ask, I'm not on the short-list for being selected when I last talked it over.
I think they are needed. Admins are not on enough, and shouldn't have to be. Considering that the forums are akin to 4chan [no, really, they are] this kind of action isn't something that should be looked over.

Either redelegate the status rankings set at different post counts, or do something about the posts themselves is what I think the best course of action. I know that the motemote section of the forum is like the #1 spamming spot that allows users to bring up their post count. I for one don't comment much in there unless it's something called *cough*Haruhism*cough*.
@Hibia: thanks for agreeing with the notion of having mods. For now, Jacob isn't comfortable with having mods as he would rather have ourselves moderate. But considering the fact that no one of status noticed Chuu !!'s blackmail/rape thread in the serious section of the forum until I reported it, means that admins and the few others can only do so much, get what I mean?

I totally agree that there should be some kind of qualifications to gain Elite or Elder status. Motemote is what got a lot of people up there in the post count because as I've already mentioned, a lot of "members," if they could be considered as such, made quite a number of bullshit posts.
I think that instead of automatically becoming Elite through posting, after so many posts they should become a "candidate for Elite" or something along those lines. Then every so often, the most devoted members, I suppose it could be limited to Fakkers with Elder status or Elites who are really involved, review the list of possible Elites and award the title according to the quality of their participation.
It'd be kind of interesting to have a Council of Elders. If we could get the whole Elite status situation under control, then maybe we could start discussing the possibility of more devoted Elites gaining some other title or even a custom title.

As I may have said, I'm not a big supporter of MoteMote battle, as when it opened it brought in a lot of users that just spammed to get to the threshold of posts so they could make a bracket to enter in for the prize draw.
I agree with a quota on posts, but the problem is people would not longer be able to submit replies that only require a few words.
But that's alright. It might force people to think about posting. And prevent so much spam in Random. Which is pretty much /b/.

The problem with having a word count or any limitations on posts, per se. You can't leave that type of thing simply to programs and coding to handle because people can always find ways around it. Maybe as opposed to a one word post as spam, they'll just type gibberish and hit the space bar randomly.
Being the type of poster I am, I post a lot of walls of text, but sometimes I'll post responses with a few words or even 1, for that matter, it doesn't seem like all that great an idea to place such rigid limitations on posts.

I agree that the Elite status is too easy to get now. The solution is simple, either just raise the post count or raise the post count and require a certain amount of reputation.
But we do need, and are appointing, moderators.

Random is a great forum, there is barely any spam in it (however there is some, that's why it's random). For example looking at it right now I am ok with all of the topics I see on the front page. And for someone who denounces 4chan so much and how it influences things, you sure do compare things to it quite a bit.

Well, we could make certain sections of the forum not count towards a user's post count, such as the random/motemote subforum sections/threads. We can dispense of moderators for now and cut back on the spam posts without having to put any sort of word-count limiter.

Random is just....to random to count for something.

I wasn't looking for any specific changes, just wanted people to notice that change needed to happen. Moderators is certainly an agreeable solution to it. I'm not too worried about who is picked to be moderators since pretty much anyone actually being considered will probably do a fine job.
Also, I'm glad nobody came in here and posted some sort of stupid reply. That'd have made me pretty annoyed.

It's true that the forums needs change and this is one of the good ideas you guys shared. But 50 rep is pretty extreme, even for the few loyal ones.

I'll be hitting 2,000 posts soon, but the need for a title there isn't really of much concern to me, considering my rep has been rising of late. Soon I'll probably just be making up my own titles too. =/

That's exactly what I thought.
