Well, I see that we've been having a few problems with reposts. If I could make a suggestion: how about hot topics be stickied.
Like the religion thread in Serious Discussion. There have been four threads of it so far and since so many people seem to want to discuss it, it could be stickied. Same thing with the Favorite Anime/Movie/Music/etc. in their respective sections. Those seem like stickies to me.
Just throwing that out there.

I don't quite agree with this. Stickies should be only be applied as a general thread that has important information regarding rules and posting in a subforum category. Active threads should remain active threads, and rather than making a permnament thread, all the dead threads before can be deleted or locked.

That is stupid. Each new thread takes up more space on this system. Why end up having 50+ threads on the same thing when you could just sticky one of them and have that take everyone's posts? Having to keep deleting "dead" (obviously not so dead if they keep getting reposted...) threads takes up mod/admin time that could be better spent elsewhere, whereas a sticky of the hot thread is right there at the front and isn't (hopefully) being reposted anymore (freeing up mod/admin time).
If you are worried about posts that do eventually become dead and are stickied... well, they can always be unstickied.
Almost every forum I have ever gone to has stickied topics that are usually posted in frequently or are reposted frequently.

Then tell me how many topics are going to be stickied? For all we know, we can have a page full of stickies before you ever see the threads. I know I'm exaggerating, but that problem is still there.

Well, we already have 2 solutions in place for this. One is de-repping jokers who post a thread that is already up, if it's obvious they didn't even try to search for an existing thread (for example especially if there is one on the first page of the same forum). Or for posting it in the wrong area. As well as we have forum mods, and it would be their job to lock/delete repost threads, and move ones in the wrong area.
So I think we should be okay with those, for the most part.

Obviously nobody understands what I'm talking about. I'm not saying sticky every thread that has 10+ pages. I'm saying sticky threads that make sense being stickied.
I'll browse the forums and pick out threads as examples of threads that should be stickied.

I never meant start stickying every thread that people post in a whole lot. Those threads will keep themselves up well enough. I'm saying sticky threads that seem like things that should be stickied.
I'll browse the forums and pick out threads as examples of threads that should be stickied.

Making certain threads sticky is one way of getting around the problem of same topics being reposted. However, it does not provide a permanent solution, though I have to say it is difficult to come up with one.
Even with stickies, there will be some who fail to notice these threads, going ahead with their identical thread creation. In addition, with such a system in place, the search function may be less utilised.

That's a good point purifier, those types of threads are worthy of being stickied inside of each forum. But perhaps "sticky" isn't the right thing for them, rather something new that makes them more prominent inside of each forum. Hmm
This is a good idea we'll have to figure something out.
